Always enjoy visits to Porthminstet Cafe. Lovely food! Lovely views. Friendly and efficient service.
Delicious food and wine wonderful view charming service. Our table was still in use when we arrived but we had a drink and free bread and olives whilst waiting.
Great relaxing place. Service is outstanding. Food very tasty and a great wine selection.
I have been visiting here for the past 17 years. Food has always been amazing. Whole sea bass was beautifully cooked and the seafood linguine was divine. Best atmosphere is in the main building, we ate in the extension where the lighting was great but plastic chairs and tables take the shine off it a little. Service was friendly, and we felt truly welcomed. This place never let's me down.
Have been visiting Porthminster Beach Cafe once or twice a year for years and so impressed that the food, ambience and in fact everything continues to impress. Well done to all for maintaining standards in a competitive market.
We love the Porthminster beach cafe & go whenever we are in Cornwall.
We have never been disappointed The food is always fantastic & the service friendly & relaxed.
Fantastic service, knowledgable waiting staff about the menu and helpful suggestions. Food was amazing, the flavours were mouthwatering, the fish was so beautifully cooked. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, can even take dogs in with well-behaved owners. I would highly recommend.
If you like garlic and I mean like it then it's for you 4 cloves with a portion of chips no thanks
This place is fantastic! Great service. Wonderful food ! I dare say we bought the cookbook in hopes that we may get close in trying to re-create these meals
Back in Las Vegas! Accepting the seafood will never be so fresh ....so we will head back tomorrow for our last night in town.
Very dissapointed as regular customers who live in Cornwall . We took 2 old university friends and were saying how amazing it was and the sort of place for a real treat . The food was really dissapointing , the calimari was not crisp enough and was not served as beautifully as I remember , the sea food pasta was served almost cold and the fish and chips were not the ones I remember from many other occassions the fish was over cooked and the chips not crisp and not enough garlic and rosemary . We have had fabulous dinners in the past here so were super dissapointed !
The food and drinks was excellent! The Service was great!
We found Portminster Beach Cafe on Tripadvisor and our AirBnB Host also suggested it. We walked from our apartment downtown just a short distance to the restaurant and were seated immediately at a table by the windows which looked out at the ocean and the sandy beach. The service was as good as it gets just about anywhere and our food was delicious. My husband had the calamari and chowder and I had wonderful seafood curry. This is a comfortable, attractive beachside restaurant with an interesting menu and friendly, efficient staff. As Americans, we found the prices very reasonable. We didn't really need reservations on a Monday night at 6:30pm in October, but, be sure to make reservations during the summer season when they are extremely busy.
Very welcoming atmosphere and staff.Food great with amazing views.
I’ve visited the PC ever since it opened, visiting regularly when I lived here in the town and continue to eat there a couple of times a year. On the last couple of visits, although the staff are as great as usual, the food wasn’t what it used to be. I used to really get my mind blown on each visit, with flavours and textures so intelligent and beautiful. Especially the deserts which were always outstanding.
It always felt value for money, as it was always such an incredible experience. This last time however felt ordinary and very over priced for what it was. I could have had food like this anywhere in st Ives, when it used to be a rare jewel, that I used to treasure and look forward to experiencing again. I wish all the best for the restaurant chain, but hope that they can go back to being daring, creative and extraordinary.
Food always fabulous And setting sublime. Extremely grateful to bring in well behaved dog. Service was efficient but not terribly ‘warm’. They do this particularly well at sister restaurant on Porthgwidden so feel more welcome there.
Excellent waiting staff. Very good food and surroundings
A bit of a mixed review for us. We had lunch on a very rainy day so, even though we were by a window we didn't have a view as it was all steamed up, but that couldn't be controlled. We were in the conservatory part and immediately got dripped on from the roof. Instead of moving us to a different table my partner was told to move next to me instead of opposite me. Not particularly comfortable. I'm not keen on sitting on a plastic chair at a plastic table it felt cheap. I also am not particularly ok with a seafood restaurant by the sea serving butter in a tiny plastic bucket and then providing a larger plastic bucket for mussel shells. I think a bit more thought for the environment should be in place and again it felt slightly cheap. My partner absolutely loved his food. He is a fish eater and he couldn't fault the food. I am not a fish eater and I felt my food was very mediocre. The halloumi salad was very odd. The freshly baked bread was stone cold and a bit soggy. The milk and white chocolate sphere was completely tasteless. I think if you eat fish and are in the main restaurant it is probably a lot nicer. I, personally would not recommend.
Loved it. I went with 4 friends and we had cocktails, main course, dessert, wine and coffee and it was all great. Within 24 hours I have recommended it to two lots of friends and I would definitely go again. We live in Cornwall so this is likely.
We had a window seat which did add to the enjoyment and as it was lunchtime it was light so we could see the beach, the sea and the wedding couple having their photos taken.
The Porthminster Cafe is in the most amazing location in St Ives.... overlooking the wide sandy beach and the turquoise sea. The service is super friendly and the food is divine. We go every time we're in Cornwall.
Fabulous location, food and service. Our group of 6 all thoroughly enjoyed the experience once again.
Good food, good service, lovely location, reasonable value.
Fantastic location, lovely restaurant always visit when in St Ives!
Another good experience with friends. Good to see standards being maintained having eaten there annually over the last four years.
Food service and atmosphere all as we would wish.

Excellent seafood and good value. Service also spot on. Highly recommended
The restaurant makes excellent use of its position. The food is beautifully presented and very tasty. The staff are attentive and pleasant. The atmosphere is delightful. We will be going again . Thank you.
Such a special place! We can’t wait to revisit with family and friends. Friendly staff, delicious and well presented food with a great view and ambience - what more could you ask for! Special thanks to Dale who accommodated our every request :)
We were disappointed this time. After coming here for many years we just felt it had lost its ‘something special ambience’.
We ordered fish and chips, the fish was very slim, not much fish, batter was fine.
The service wasn’t too good, one waitress too busy chatting to one particular table. We had to keep ‘waving’ to get attention.
Nothing terribly wrong, but the evening just wasn’t good enough.
Such lovely food, views and people. What else can you say !
Great location, superb service (the 'maitre de' was very accommodating) and the food was perfect. Extremely well presented and from the freshest ingredients.
Fab as ever!
Excellent food, excellent staff, amazing views over the beach and they let us bring our dog!
Overall, we were a little disappointed - previous reviews suggested we were in for a culinary delight but sadly the service was nothing more than perfunctory and the food was largely bland and over priced. The wine is priced ok but it is not somewhere we would rush back to I’m sad to say. The low point was £3.75 for two box standard bread rolls - something which most restaurants provide as part of the service. Feels like a place rather resting on its laurels and not pushing to excite the diner with unctuous food and thoughtful service.
This restaurant creates an occasion out of eating out. It is consistent, one of our favourite places, and makes beautiful food.
Must confess to being a little disappointed overall. My curry was very good, but my wifes meal was not as good as mine. She had the fish & chips, she is not that much of a fish lover.
Her meal was served on paper, but the chips (with vinegar) on them stuck to the paper. The paper then had to be peeled off the chips. Can I suggest you review how you serve this. Also whole cloves of garlic were served with the chips. Seems a little lazy.
Must also say the staff were polite and as helpful as humanly possible and the view from the restaurant cannot be beaten
We have been going to the beach cafe 2 a year for 15years? This year... disappointed. Inflated prices for ordinary food. F&C from the beach cafe a favorite for one of our group. Always lovely crispy chips and fish gourjons. This year.. ordinary unskinned chips and a lump of uninspiring fish. When we started going... £10.95 lovely plate of delightful gourjons, fries, tartare sauce. And peas. Now £16.95 uninspiring f&c and everything else extra!! Other meals ordered equally disappointing value wise That is the end of a long relationship.
A lovely Lunchtime meal in a glorious setting. Location can't be beat! Food of a very high standard matched by the efficient & friendly service.
Visiting from Australia and found this restaurant reflected local foods perfectly.
Overpriced and food very hit and miss - some dishes lovely but others very poor.
Loved the setting. The food was delicious and your staff very attentive. A fantastic start to our week in St Ives. Thank you
it was a perfect day. Beautiful weather, fabulous food, really friendly knowledgeable service and a fabulous location right on the beach. We loved Porthminster Beach Cafe.
