Porthminster Beach Café
Porthminster Cafe in St Ives is a multi award winning seafood restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The café specialises in Mediterranean and Asian seafood cuisine and is an oasis of taste and visual beauty.
A Holiday in St Ives would not be complete without going to the beach. Here at Porthminster Beach we have one of the cleanest beaches in the South West. We have been given the prestigious Blue Flag Award which guarantees the highest of standards.
it was a perfect day. Beautiful weather, fabulous food, really friendly knowledgeable service and a fabulous location right on the beach. We loved Porthminster Beach Cafe.
Warm welcoming service throughout the evening. Food was amazing especially the seabass. Amazing views of the beach also. Definitely dine here again soon.
Arrived dead on time20.00hrs given menus,to them be told after 15 mins looking that what we wanted to order was not available.
Main course arrived after 21.30!!!Excuses were given but no recompense.Been coming here on and off for 20 years and was my worst experience.
The food and service were absolutely spot on, but I’m afraid the level of noise was so high that we could not here each other speaking!!
Great location. Interesting menus. Don’t forget to take a wrap though-can be a bit cool
Overall, we had a nice time; not an overwhelming experience. Have been a number of times in the past but not for a couple of years. The reason being it is super expensive and therefore would only go for a special occasion, as in our visit this time.
The waitress was pleasant, helpful and professional. Our table was by a beachside window so we had a stunning view and I know that this is all part of the package. The food was good, but not outstanding. Certainly do no mind paying if you enjoy the cuisine and feel it is value for money. Mine was fine, in that the dish was enjoyable but nothing extraordinary. Similarly the rest of the party felt the same. Our starters arrived reasonably quickly but our mains were very slow; a good hour later. Luckily we weren’t so hungry that it was an issue, but it could have been.
I think as a special treat, the restaurant is definitely worth a visit, as long as you are not on a tight budget.
Second visit and couldn’t fault it. Staff very attentive from the moment we arrived, replaced your water and asked if you wanted another drink. Would certainly book again next time we visit St Ives.
Super on the beach restaurant! I could choose anything on the menu & great selection of wines to go with. We sat in the covered area semi outside as it was a grey day but still enjoyed the view. Does food taste better by the sea? I think it does!!
I made my way to the cafe for a hearty breakfast before heading back to London on the train. The views were amazing. They have a covered and an open terrace so good for all weathers. The breakfast was indeed quite large and beautifully cooked. Remember to order toast as this is extra. The coffee was lovely and strong and I sat for a good hour savoring the views before heading to the station which is a few minutes walk away. I would have loved to have had an evening meal here but they were fully booked each night. Get in early!
We always have at least one dinner at the Porthminster Cafe when we are in St Ives. Over the years the restaurant has grown in size, but we were disappointed with the meal overall this time.
The food was ok, nothing out of the ordinary and the server was generally disinterested in us as customers. We were surprised that a dog had been allowed into the conservatory part of the building especially as it was quite boisterous. We may return next time ...
We have visited the sister café before, and were pleased that the standards were the same. Staff were really friendly, helpful and chatty.
The view was great and thanks for arranging the weather so we could sit outside!
We will be back
I had booked a table a few months ago to celebrate our wedding anniversary whilst we were down on holiday at Carbis Bay.. I confirmed booking on the morning and asked if possible for a window table. Charlotte was very polite and explained they were booked however if there was a no show she would try and get us one.
On the night she did and we were moved without fuss as she remembered and this is great customer service. However I must compliment all the staff who looked after us as there is that nice amount of time they spend with guests chatting before it becomes to much. The food as always is superb and presented beautifully.
Just had dinner, wonderful views. Great service. The food was excellent and it was the best squid I've ever had. Highly recommend. Wish I lived closer.
Amazing location overlooking Porthminster Beach and outstanding quality of food. This is the second time that I have visited and I will definitely return again when I’m in St Ives. Excellent service from very friendly and efficient staff
Delightful meal in lovely surroundings. Squid starter a stunner! Thank you, all at the Cafe.
More pricey than the Kitchen owned by the same business. Food quality was poor and service was not very friendly. Go to their kitchen location in St Ives and have the delicious squid.
Service impersonal and canteen like - disappointed given price bracket
Starters not served together
Special maincourse bland - other food good
Staff having to reach over diners to serve whole table as tables too close together
Aperitif taken away before finished
Wine server appeared reluctant to pour wine
Lovely location but food standards variable and service poor
Yummy, had a lovely evening. Great inventive food caring staff wonderful view
Delicious dishes prepared from fresh local ingredients. The location is perfect and the service prompt and friendly. A great evening for sharing the reunion of five far flung sisters. Thank you.x
Been many times before, always enjoyed it. The fish curry is outstanding.
Beautiful setting by the beach with the option to sit outside. The waitress was super friendly and helpful. The food was really lovely - especially the fish curry. Slightly pricey but worth it for a special night out.
Food was delicious, staff lovely and welcoming, beautiful view.
The service was superb, the setting and view amazing and OMG the food was out of this world. The beef brisket breakfast was beyond words and now means we will be dissatisfied with any other eggs Benedict we have, because none will come close!
Definately coming back next time!
The restaurant is located right next to the beach with beautiful views of the sea. Pete, our waiter, was very friendly and knowledgable and recommended a lovely local gin. The food was beautifully presented, delicious and excellent value. We will certainly visit again and highly recommend the establishment to others.
Historically I would have sung the restaurants praises and have had numerous fantastic meals at Porthminster. On this occasion sat next to a family of 12 still in wet beach wear, loud and disinterested in other dinners experience of others. To top it off brought 2 poorly controlled, barking, wet and smelly dogs with them for dinner.
Maitre-Dee made no effort to address this and its impact on the other dinners.
I had to book the restaurant 2 week in advance and did not want to share the experience with 2 barking, wet and smelly dogs.
Beautiful restaurant, great food, horrible experience.
Will try one more time
Great food - great location- staff brilliant!!!!
Would definitely recommend this restaurant
Great food in relaxed setting. Fabulous beach views.
A highlight of our Cornish holiday
Service, food and ambiance were wonderful. We were allowed to eat unhurried and the staff were most concerned that everything was ok. A great dining experience.
Amazing spot. Top notch food, and just a perfect St Ives lunch for the family
The food was incredible in particular the two curries
We have dined here several times and enjoyed our meals..But were disappointed on this visit.. The maître d'hôtel seemed more concerned in informing us that we only had the table for two hours till 9:00pm.... However, service was excellent, the staff are lovely, friendly and helpful..The food is very good and tasty...I had requested a table in the terrace as I knew in the main building it is very warm..We did not get it...So our table was in the main restaurant building consequently it was far too warm and uncomfortable.
Excellent location with outstanding views. The service was first class, which was matched by quality food. The presentation was mouth watering, followed by tasty dishes across our table of four.
for ones and first time for me anyway , service was very slow but could be a simple thing as staff off otherwise as always perfect
Stunning Location and outstanding views, superb food and excellent service.
The Maitre D was more intent on telling us that we had 2 hours than welcoming repeat guests. After that the service, food and general ambience declined. The food was dangerously close to low grade gastropub. And the service slow and ignorant, in all meaning of the word.
Having visited this restaurant at least twice every year for the last fifteen years we were surprised about how bad the food and service was. And how unwelcoming of returning regular customers the restaurant was.
On reflection it was as if we had done something to upset the restaurant on a previous visit, I felt like I had been put on the naughty step.
It was like the last few REM albums, not very good from a previous favourite band.
I don't want to listen to REM anymore and I don't want to go to Porthminster Beach Cafe anymore.
Stunning food in an airy, relaxing and inspiring location.
Garlic bread was always lovely but this year it too large and like a wet flannel
My whole Seabass was over done and almost dried out- very little flavour
My wife’s fillet steak was again this year half tender and the other half chewy - not was you expect from a top end priced restaurant
Also choices too complicated and off putting
Lunch time birthday meal. Fabulous view of the beach. Staff were attentive and had a card for my sons birthday for him. Oysters from Fal Estaury for starters which were delicious, followed by crispy whole fried sea bass.
Reasonably priced wine
Really nice relaxed style beach restaurant
Fabulous breakfast here with amazing service and spectacular views
Beautiful restaurant. Dogs allowed and there were loads including one huge one getting in everyone’s way. Tall enough to sniff the tables - yuk.
Waited an hour for our main course after speedy starter.
Food delicious as always
