We have stripped out much of what is unnecessary; dairy and gluten take a backseat in favour of fresh and exciting textures and flavours.
Porthminster Kitchen enjoys awe-inspiring panoramic views from its location in the heart of St Ives. From your vantage point above the harbour, escape the hustle and bustle and relax on our sun-drenched terrace, or gaze out from huge windows and take in the 180° view.
Stunning food and great service!!
Starters were amazing (chowder and anchovys), would have them again, but the mains were a bit disappointing. Fish and chips were ok, super skinny fries a bit odd with big fried cod - would expect in a posh restaurant for this to be better than local chippy and it wasn't. Hake was cooked ok, but bubble and squeak was more peas than cabbage and there was a funny after taste to the whole dish. Felt both the mains were more style than substance. Pudding options were a bit odd so we didn't have any. A let down as the meal started so well.
Very nice chilled atmosphere really tasty fresh food well presented everything looks like it’s been well thought out definitely would go back again.
Food OK but seems to have taken a dip from previous times we have eaten there.
Absolutely fantastic experience. Easy to book a table online, we had to wait 5 mins for our table on arrival but staff were apologetic and compensated us with free bread and olives. Outstanding food, flavours were fresh and perfectly balanced, and just the right portion sizes. Staff were attentive and lovely. You know it's a good restaurant when they are full on a rainy Tuesday evening! Would absolutely go there again.
Lovely evening, great food and good service. Good position too, the sea in the moonlight just across the road!
Lovely food, thank you!
The only negative for me was that my fish came slightly "pink" in the middle. I'm sure this is the perfect chefy way of cooking fish but I'm pregnant and couldn't eat half of it! I would have asked up front but didn't expect it!
Lovely food, great venue and great service, we will be back!
Tried to book this place couple of days before and was fully booked, so glad we finally got it. They didn't disappoint. The food was amazing. Presented fantastically and tasted even better. Plus views of the harbour to go with it. Staff were lovely and didn't smother you. The whole experience was lovely. Best restaurant we went to while on our stay on Cornwall and would recommend to anyone who's near the place.
We booked a table for this restaurant some three days before we wished to attend and selected a time of 1400hrs. On the 19th of September. On our arrival, a sunny but blustery day, we were offered an outside table but decided to sit inside. Unfortunately we were shown to a small table for two, against a wall and against the route to and close to the toilet. There were a number of empty tables and several pairs of people who walked in of the street after us were shown to tables that would cater for four and with a view of the sea for both . During our dining experience we ordered three courses. The quality of presentation, portion size, and quality of the food was excellent and with a flare of high artistic skill. The linguine was rich in seafood with some of the most flavoursome and large mussels I have tasted in a very long time. As we ordered our sweet the waitress asked if we would like to move to a window table which we did, and enjoyed the feeling of Liberty from our previous location. Other than he seating issue, which did impact on our experience, a lovely meal, in a great setting with helpful staff.
The food was very good however the service left something to be desired. As a group of two the table location was very poor with one person having to sit with their back to the sea facing the toilet door
Amazing food and lovely staff! Definitely one of the best eating out experiencesive ever had!!
I'm so sad I live so far away as this would definitely be somewhere I would want to go to again!
Thank you! 😊
Good food and great service, beautiful view over st ives harbour.Book though, loads of people didn’t get a place when they just turned up
Clean place with sea view. Portions are generous (if mot too much so). No table cloths.
Visited with family for my birthday. Place was busy and bustling. Got a sea/window view which was amazing (as not bookable). Service was a little slow but otherwise fantastic. Food was great and drinks not bad either - local sparkling wine hit the spot. Once again a great experience with some of us trying new foods and tastes. Personal choices allowed slight change to menu and allergy avoidance observed. Apple and rhubarb crumble was disappointing due to lack of rhubarb as could only just taste it. Will definitely be back.
Second visit to porthminster kitchen & it didn’t disappoint. We were in st ives for a few days & booked a table for the Saturday evening, the staff were very friendly, chatty & accomodating. The food was outstanding as it had been the previous year when we visited, we will definitely be back.
The mackerel pate & the pork belly starters were fantastic, the mains of fish& chips, seafood curry & seafood linguine were also fantastic!!
Can’t recommend this place enough, great views & atmosphere match the great food.
Beautifully presented and tasty food, with incredible views over St Ives harbour. Perfect service and ambiance. Good value for the quality of restaurant and food.
We keep returning so I guess that says it all. Great food, great location, great service and reasonable value.
We came Thursday night as well as Friday can’t fault the place great experience even better food
Just wish we had it at home in Cheshire 👍👍👍👍
Great food and service. Love the busily atmosphere. Fabulous view over the harbour at sunset. One of the best meals had in St. Ives. Highly recommend the seafood curry.
Excellent food and service, wonderful views across the harbour. Huge plates, had to share starter (mussels) and dessert ( gluten free cheeseboard). Mains of dressed crab were best we'd eaten in St Ives.
We had an amazing meal for our anniversary with our two young children too. Food was delicious, staff were attentive and we would definitely recommend it to others and will be returning again on our next holiday in St Ives.
Food is very tasty and beer here many times and quality and flavours have been retained.
Noise levels were too high for me but I do enjoy a good atmosphere
Fortunately we were at the opposite end of the restaurant to the loud group making the noise.
Front of house not on top of things.
Need more staff or better organisation.
Not much point in having great food if it’s served in a tense atmosphere.
Lovely eatery with the view of St.Ives harbour. Although I ordered the cheapest set of food, was still tasty the sticky toffee pudding, was my favourite.
Great food and service and compared to it’s sibling the Portminster cafe ,good value. Kids main courses only £5 and we’re really well done.
Friendly service, beautiful setting, lovely food. A must if visiting StIves
Thoroughly enjoyed it! Can't wait to go back! Fantastic place to eat.
Welcoming efficient pleasant staff, excellent food, good looking room with great view, and the whole thing had a great vibe.
We had a lovely table but our request because it was a special occasion was not noted. The service was great, really quick despite saying the kitchen was really busy.
We had bread, two soft drinks and one cider plus three mains that came to £63.00 two of the meals were show stoppers and worth the £16 a piece but the special, although good was over priced and not so wow. The service was great, lovely waiting team and welcoming but if when booking a table we say it’s a special occasion it maybe needs to be noted otherwise why book using the book a table app.
Overall we loved the night here, and enjoyed ourselves and the food immensely and would recommend and return again without doubt.
Amazing food! Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of visiting.
Friday 16th August. Hake, Pak Choi, bubble and squeak with hollandaise - a perfect plate of food chef! We will be back tonight, 19th.
Rarely get the chance to have dinner out with the husband, due to having two young children, so when picking a restaurant we tend to chose carefully.
Porthminister Kitchen exceeded our expectations, food was delicious and service was brilliant. Maria was exceptionally great, making us feel very welcome to ensure we had a lovely evening!
Thankyou, we will be back on our next trip down to Cornwall.
Great location overlooking the harbour. Food was excellent although this is predominantly a seafood restaurant so for kids the menu is limited to 3 choices and a struggle if they don’t like fish or macaroni cheese. However some of the staff were very accommodating to help us find a suitable choice.
Really blown away with the taste and creativity of the food, not just any Moules and creamy sauce! The steak was done to perfection and loved the truffle hash browns, again so different than just your average steak and chips! We had a great lunch with a 4-year-old in tow, very family-friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We will be back!
Nice restaurant for an evening meal. Lovely location and friendly staff. The menu was fairly standard and the food was good.
Great position overlooking the harbour. Good widow seat this time. Good service even though busy for lunch. Great range of starter dishes with reasonably priced wines. Never disappointed here!
Lovely food although we were sitting in a bit of a draught. Service was good and attentive. Desserts were a bit bonkers! Overall nice meal in a busy and slight hectic restaurant.
Fantastic food! Great quality ingredients and reasonably priced. We sat on the outside terrace overlooking the harbour. One of the nicest meals I have had out in a while.
Very good food and very friendly service. The view was terrific and the location was right in the heart of St Ives. Really good Oysters and fantastic steak. We were a family of four and we were very warmly welcomed.
