A favorite of Julia Child - Pot au Feu Bistro is so much more than a restaurant... Established in 1972, our cozy Bistro is the oldest French Bistro in America. Pot au Feu Bistro kicked off the Providence Restaurant Renaissance being the first to offer something other than “steak, spaghetti and chow mien”.
Located in the Historic Downtown we are just minutes from all the hotels and convention center.

Our evening at Pot au Feu was absolutely perfect. After growing up in New Orleans and moving to New England, it’s been a long time since I’ve had a dining experience that both anticipates all customer needs and satisfies the pallet in more ways than one. The flavors in every dish from appetizer to dessert were clearly carefully curated and wonderfully executed. Thank you to the chef and to the amazing staff for making our anniversary so special! I would recommend this restaurant to any person looking for authentic and delicious french cuisine in the PVD, Rhode Island area.

Outstanding French cuisine in a traditional French bistro with intimate and semi-private seating. Bob and his staff are all very welcoming and warn which compliments the dining experience. Merci Beaucoup Robert!

Excellent food and service. A real gem that Bob Burke has wonderfully preserved. We have going there since it opened and wanted our 15 year old grandson to experience. He absolutely loved it and even took a loaf of the bread home for breakfast. Keep up the great work, Bob.

As always, Pot au Feu exceeded expectations! I have been a patron of the restaurant for decades and honestly, since my mom who was my favorite dinner companion, passed away, I don't get out as often as I used to. I had an opportunity to dine out with a dear friend who actually suggested, "Let's go to Pot au Feu! I'm craving their duck!" As she has often pointed out, few restaurants serve duck and those that do, do not prepare it as well. I chose the beef tenderloin with a luscious bordelaise sauce. Both dishes were served with ratatouille and roasted potatoes with a side of dill sauce. The dinner, as always, began with warm, French bread with a crock of creamy butter and salad, sprinkled with blue cheese and served with a choice of homemade dressings (raspberry vinegarette or a creamy mustard). For dessert we did forgo the creme brulee which is our usual choice and opted for espresso martinis. While the food was amazing, I would be remiss if I were not to bring attention to the exceptional service and ambiance. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were greeted by owner, Bob Burke, dressed impeccably in a jacket and his trademark bowtie. He seated us in a cozy center table. If you haven't been to the restaurant since the pandemic, you'll be amazed at the beautiful way they reformulated the room to maintain the atmosphere, yet separate tables to give space away from other patrons. When you arrive at your table, glasses and side plates are covered with a linen napkin to keep them protected. Of course, flowers and a candle complete the setting. Our server was Hillary, a longtime and beloved staff member who always makes you feel at home. She makes a point to remember many of her patrons and always greets you warmly. All servers and staff are always keeping an eye on your every need, yet give you space without hovering. All in all, it was a spectacular evening, and we cannot wait to return!

We can’t say enough about what a wonderful dining experience we enjoyed. From the friendly greeting we received from the owner , exceptional service from all the staff, amazing apps, entrees & dessert. The ambiance has to make it one of the most romantic restaurants in Providence. Dinner there feels like a little vacation! Honestly a flawless experience. Can’t wait to return!

been wanting to try this spot for years and I finally got a weekend night off so I did! I sat at the bar with Casey and he was very professional and made me feel super welcome. The drinks and food were very on point. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and I hope one day I get to try it again!

We were a party of 7 and were given a wonderful table in a nook where we could really hear each other and feel at home. We ordered different dishes so we could taste as many as possible. Everything was really delicious. What we didn't expect was the abundant size of each dish (we had to take some doggy bags home); we were very well taken care of. It almost felt like we were at home, albeit being served! The pates, the onion soup and the mushroom soup were particularly appreciated. We did not have dessert as we were going to a birthday party afterwards.
