Prelude at Norwich Theatre Royal
Considering the circumstances and the show being cancelled 1 hour before curtain up, the situation was very well dealt with.
Only one choice of vegetarian main which was essentially vegetables swimming in a very watery sauce - extremely disappointing & barely edible
Husbands chicken was okay but unremarkable
It’s such a shame as it’s such a good facility we won’t we eating there again as this is twice now vegetarian option fir main has been dreadful
There’s no excuse for poor options for vegetarian/vegan now
Good food in nice comfortable surroundings. Had asked for some water when we ordered our food & drinks but it was forgotten so had to ask again.
A lovely pre- theatre meal with friends. Lovely to be able to order drinks and pudding for the interval and to be able to return to the comfort of our dinner table to enjoy them. A really relaxed start to a wonderful evening.
Mussels not good. My sister had something strange in hers which was dealt with half a dozen free ones!!!!! Not satisfactory... no real apology.
Quite honestly Prelude has a long way to go to match the Assembly House.
We were disappointed. The menu was very basic, not like we’d seen online prior to booking. The chicken dish I had was very “ordinary”. My friend has gammon, fried egg and chips. The egg looked as though it had been kept on a hot plate for a long time and the gammon was a little shrivelled.
Won’t be going again anytime soon
Had the lunch menu on 14th March. Was expecting the french menu choices as per the website, eg French onion soup, beef bourginon etc. Was disappointed that the menu was pate. Chicken, gammon etc. I has the duck pate to start, pate was hard & a small serving of melba toast. Had the chicken for main, which was dry & the tomato sauce was bland! The eclair for dessert was the best thing.
It was my birthday and we always use the restaurant when we visit the theatre royal.
The Prelude experience maintained its usual good standard with the sole exception, on this occasion, of not preparing our interval drinks. A problem quickly resolved once I raised it.
Everything was excellent, clean & very well presented. Everyone was polite, told us where to go for our seats. An overall most enjoyable experience
A delicious pre-show dinner. Prompt, polite and professional service. We have booked again for the next time we are at the Theatre.
The food is quite basic. Squirty cream filled choux buns. Croque monsiuer with dismal salad leaves! But very easy for the theatre. Just not a proper restaurant experience
Excellent service despite being very busy. Standard of food very good.
Service was very good but disappointed with food. Pate came with three small melba toast, inadequate as mentioned in other reviews and difficult to eat with Pate as melba toast fell apart. Main course chicken was stringy and the accompanying mash potato was very watery. (Smash potato comes to mind). Snack menu portions which appeared on other tables seemed better value for money. Menu on website last updated April 2019. Menu presented on the day bore no resemblance to this and was very limited. Not the sort of food experience you would expect from such a venue. Seats were uncomfortable and noted several people asked if they could have a different type of chair to sit on. Interested to know if any of these comments are addressed especially when people are commenting on the same things.
The staff were fabulous, friendly and quick.
The starter was very nice but we had only 3 very small pieces of melba toast with the pate we requested more and it was supplied. But, the toast had very small bullet hard pieces in it, you couldn't see them until you bit down on it...risky for the teeth. I did ask the waitress what they were but she didn't know. They were not part of the toast. Its a mystery.
I had the short rib, delicious and my husband had the burger also very good.
We had a very enjoyable evening.
A pleasant restaurant and so convenient, actually in the theatre building. The staff were attentive and helpful. Will definitely use it again.
Expensive small portions no toast/bread with mackerel pate inedible what was served with it looked like a dog chew thee rolls for four people also felt hurried
Lovely meal and really helpful staff, memorable meal as it was my son's 18th - Thank you
Made our trip to the theatre a very memorable experience.
A perfect evening out.
Will definitely book again.
Very average menu, poor starters and dessert, main dishes over salted, very disappointing as previously had very good food and hospitality.
On the strength of this experience couldn’t recommend the restaurant and probably won’t book again, dining out is a treat and part of the going to theatre occasion.
Very pleasant and comfortable surroundings.Good menu and orders taken promptly. An excellent start to a fabulous evening.
Second visit wonderful again. Service and food could not be faulted.
The setting is lovely and very convenient. The food is nice, although i ordered the patè and melba toast, unfortunately i recieved a few crumbs of toast, maybe a full slice would have been much nicer? The server was very polite and attentive.
The meal was lovely. It was a pleasure and the staff were great. Don't like the toilets! I have no objection to mixed toilets but only three cubicles in a small space?. I saw a couple of men who couldn't face standing in the queue with us women. It needs a rethink as it spoils a lovely venue .
This was our second time of using Prelude and will definitely use again. There is a good choice of quality food, the service is excellent and being able to keep our table with pre- ordered drinks for the interval makes the theatre experience even better.
We had the worst gluten free option my wife ever had
Followed by the wrong sweet which was sent back
We won’t be back
Convenient way to dine before a theatre booking. Staff very friendly and atmosphere bubbly and happy. Food OK but would benefit greatly from perhaps a bit more attention in the selection and cooking. Apart from that, we had an enjoyable dinner and throughly enjoyed the theatre performance which overall added up to a great success.
Prelude at the theatre royal is outstanding for a pre show meal with great food and excellent service. Its a very comfortable environment, we could have stayed all night. We intend to use again, cannot wait until we visit the theatre again.
An excellent place for a pre-show dinner, attentive staff and varied menu.
We had a lovely evening and our waitress was so lovely and helped make our evening. We will certainly eat there again
Good was good but did feel your toilets were not very well organized not very private for men or woman did f ine one gentleman shy to come in.
excellent food and excellent service in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere
Service great and nice to see our favourite waiter. In again next week. Thank you.
Our meal was extremely good, the price was very reasonable and the service was efficient. Unfortunately our waiter constantly made rather odd remarks and inappropriate comments which he probably thought was friendly banter but it was irritating and sometimes interrupted our conversation between myself and my friend. I don't know if he thought two ladies of middle years needed this excess of attention. The other slight irritation was that we were asked twice if everything was ok with our meal. Once is fine but the second time is unnecessary as it was still the same course that we were eating.
Prelude at the Theatre Royal is an excellent choice for a pre show dinner. Delicious food, the friendliest service and really good value for money. We will definitely be making a return visit.
Our first experience at Prelude was very positive. The food was delicious, staff polite, helpful and attentive, but not intrusive, and I definitely liked having my coffee waiting for me at the Interval. Great idea to have the table allocated for the evening, worked very well to enhance the theatre experience.
A lovely place to eat before seeing a show. Very convenient and great that you have the table to use in the interval too. Excellent service from all the staff.
Not a very big choice on the evening menu and food rather bland and ordinary.
My friend found her potato which accompanied her chicken very hard and inedible, it was swiftly changed for another which was the same, she eventually settled for fries. A inconvenience to what should of been a relaxing pre shower meal.
Male waiter very pleasant and helpful...not sure about the jeans though.
We weren’t very keen on the mixed toilet system. Very impersonal!
I thought I’d requested a window table I was by the wall but that was better than being in the middle so not a major problem.
Some of the pasta was stuck together. Again that did not detract from the overall flavour of the meal but it’s something I expect more from a home cook rather than a restaurant.
I asked for the desert menu but no one was particularly keen to take my order and as I was running out of time before the place I ended up not placing an order.
I was in a rush when I arrived so these minor niggles
Excellent service which was timely and aimed to ensure prompt service to avoid any pressure to complete our meal before the performance commenced. Food quality was good. My only criticism was the difficulty in attempting to make a variation to my booking on line. I gave up and resorted to phoning the box office where staff were friendly and helpful.
