Prelude at Norwich Theatre Royal
Despite being sent a reminder email confirming the table booking with the correct date and time 2 days prior to our booking, when arriving at the theatre we where informed by an amused member of staff that Kemps kitchen had burnt down 3 weeks previous. We were asked if we would like a baked potato in the bar area instead. On speaking to the manager it was confirmed that other guests had previously also turned up for their bookings . Disappointed with Theatre Royal and Kemps restaurant for not having the common sense or decency to ensure that the bookings they have are contacted to inform them of the cancellation instead of allowing the confirmation emails being sent.
Not based on this survey request as the week we were supposed to go the restaurant was closed because of a kitchen fire and we keep getting these annoying automated bloody e-mails, asking how much we enjoyed our meal when YOU know the restaurant was CLOSED!!
I have been asked to leave a review even though the restaurant was closed due to a fire. Please get your act together.
Kemps cancelled the booking due to 'an incident' the previous day.
Unfortunately the restaurant had to close so couldn’t honour the booking. I was phoned early that morning though. Because OpenTable was not aware of this closure, it wouldn’t allow me to book a table at another restaurant.
Really lovely greeting when we arrived. Staff very helpful and food of good quality. Look forward to our next visit.
Enjoyable evening. Extra chocolate sauce appreciated!
This was the first time we had used the restaurant. We were so delighted with the relaxed atmosphere, dedicated staff and, most importantly, wonderful food! Our desserts and coffees were waiting for us during the interval; it was all so very civilized! We will certainly repeat the experience again.
Disappointed. Food slow to arrive. Ordered Appletisers - when arrived clearly weren't appletisers as tasted completely different. More like soda water with apple flavouring. Had starters and mains for 18.00 per person. Soup lovely but one arrived without bread or butter. Soon rectified though. I had the roast chicken which was tough and tasteless. Felt price didn't reflect quality of food or service. One waitress clearly didn't want to be there - didn't see her smile once.
Lovely hot food with very friendly and helpful service.
Excellent food and value for money, friendly professional staff, will return again.
Ideal for a pre theatre meal. Waitresses very friendly and excellent service.
It is very convenient when visiting the theatre.
The starters were very nice. Main courses could have been better. I picked the chicken & it could have been more tender. Husbands beef burger came with cheese in the top not stated on the menu. He was able to lift it off easily as he doesn’t like cooked cheese.
It’s a good plus that your table is yours for the night & you can come back in the interval for drinks or
even desert. All ready when you arrive,
The most amazing food we’ve eaten for a long while and the staff were wonderful and helpful.
All staff very accommodating with any request readily met. Food service second to none and the staff pleasant with a good sense of humour. The availability of interval drinks and seating at our original table was very pleasant.
We came in before the matinee performance of this years pantomime and can honestly say that it was wonderful. The staff were attentive and incredibly professional. The food was beautiful. Thank you for making our experience all the better. Would definitely recommend and return. Thank you
The food was very tasty but could have done with a few more veg. Desserts lovely, best was our waiter Luke very entertaining
We had a meal before the panto on Boxing Day and arrived 30 mins early but it wasn’t a problem for the staff who showed us to our table and took our drink order, then our meal order. All staff was friendly and food very good.
Ordered from the “two courses for £18 menu for myself, and from child’s menu for grandson. I asked for some butter to spread the toast that came with my terrine. One sliver was brought on a large plate. Terrine was ok. I had vegetarian nut roast for a change - the worst nut roast I have ever had. Accompanying vegs were awful - reheated. The bill was miscalculated. We have eaten here previous years, before going to the panto and enjoyed our meal - but we won’t be booking next year.
Overall we enjoyed our visit but sadly the review is poor as the main meal we had was not very nice.
We both chose the roast turkey. The turkey was a generous portion and okay but the roast potatoes were barely roasted and tasted like they had been kept warm for a long time. The brussel sprouts were probably frozen but had gone a dark colour and seemed like they'd been kept warm for ages. The roast parsnips & carrots were fine. The sausage with bacon was barely cooked. The whole meal was warm not hot and the plate was cold which didn't help.
The dessert, drinks, table, crackers, serviettes, service and price of the meal were all fine but marred by the main course which is of course is the main part of any meal.
Service was very pleasant and helpful and convenient for the theater. The chose of selection of food very limited
Four of us went for lunch on Saturday pre theatre. Enjoyed and excellent unhurried meal.
The food was very good , the service excellent and the fact you can have the table in the interlude was a bonus. It was quiet, relaxed and comfortable. well worth the visit as we were watching a show.
We pre booked a table prior to watching the Panto, and chose the Christmas Menu, Roast Turkey, with Choc Brownie for dessert and Christmas pud for dessert too, the food was absolutely delicious and as at previous years, we will continue to have and enjoy our Christmas meal before the panto.
We have eaten in Kemps several times now, the food is always beautifully presented and delicious. We love the way the vegetarian menu changes. I would definitely recommend as a pre show meal, or you could just stop in for lunch while doing a bit of shopping. The staff are always polite and friendly and have always made myself and the children welcome.
Food was lovely, but there was a big different on portion size between the meals, the burger was 3x the meal of the sea bream, but can't fault the service, we just missed the Christmas songs.
Enjoyable atmosphere with great service and good food. Very friendly staff. Would definitely go again.
We had a tasty meal served efficiently and with a smile which was perfect for our pre-theatre lunch
I was meeting friends I hadn't seen for six-and-a-half years, so I wanted somewhere informal where we could chat. The menu was really good and I treated myself to a dessert, which was faultless! Will definitely be going again.
Another very nice pre theatre meal. Thank you. It was delicious and a lovely way to relax and chat, contributing to a great evening.
Great meal pre theatre and able to keep table to have coffee and dessert at interval
I was very satisfied with our choice of meals and service from staff was excellent I will definitely come again next time I am in Norwich
Booked the table online to dine before watching the full monty. The menu isn't extensive, 3 guests had sausage and mash which was a hit, 1 had the pasta dish looked colourful and enjoyed. I had the fish which was a fillet but unfortunately had bones and had to request the crumb topping be removed for allergy reason.
Desserts were all alcohol based which is a problem if you have an allergy. The staff were helpful in altering the dishes that contained allergens.
The group will book again when next attending the theatre
Friendly staff great food
Accommodate your needs
Not too intimidating
good experience all round and to have our table for the interval so we could have drinks
The restaurant was full and it was a long wait for the meals to arrive, meaning we had to rush our deserts as we were attending the theatre. I thought 1hour 30 mins before the performance would have been long enough to eat. I noticed several customers having to rush and pay to reach the performance on time
Despite the restaurant being fully booked, the service was quick and all food options available. Staff very polite and professional.
Good place to eat before theatre, but also excellent for interval drinks/sweet at your table.
Pleasant local staff.
Had been 2 Kemps several times b4 and always enjoyed the meals. Variety always good. Waitresses went out of their way 2 b helpful 2 myself, husband, daughter and 11 year old grandson with regards 2 choices on the menu. Service was very good and we didn't have 2 wait long between courses. Woukd recommnd Kemps Restaurant 2 anyone
Great place to grab a meal pre-theatre. You can arrange to have dessert/drinks/coffee at your table during the interval which is very civilised.
