I would always recommend the crown to friends and consistently enjoy it here, however, one of the bar staff could have done with some lessons in how not to be a smart a*se.
When pouring my pornstar martini, you didnt have any shot glasses so he proceeded to pour the prosecco shot into a tumbler, which was fine but he wasnt pouring the right amount that would be equivalent to the shot glass, i asked him to pour more and he argued that it was exactly the same measure.
Good customer service means the customer is always right, would recommend he changes his attitude!
Date night with the husband and had a lovely evening. I ended up booking the wrong day and should have booked the Saturday evening, turned up and was no booking for my name. Realised what I had done, however this wasn't a problem and they were able to find us a table. Lovely food which was enjoyed by both. Will definitely be coming back soon.
Lovely evening with friends ..beautiful food and cocktails x
Generally good food but of the four mains two were unusually poorer than expected. The roast chicken was OK in quality but the presentation was poor, a pile of chicken carcass overpowering the plate. One of the two roast beef we ordered was cold.
The food is usually reliably good but on this occasion one of the four of us got a main course that was not as described on the menu. The roast loin of pork arrived as rather stringy pork shoulder, edible but not what it should have been.
Outstanding service in a relaxed atmosphere. I always feel welcome and valued here. Food is freshly cooked and the two course lunch from the fixed price menu is excellent value. The wine list is larger than most. Disappointingly, and for the second visit in a month, my first choice wine wasn’t available. (Different choices each time). But it’s not hard to choose a delicious alternative from the extensive offering.
Poor service, one meal was cold, one meal was wrong
Semi regular dinner about once a month and recently each visit has been progressively worse.
Going to give it a miss for a while.
The service was very slow. Restaurant was not busy probably about 5 tables at any one time. The place is nice and the menu has a good choice however the waitress was very slow. Ordered food and drinks at the same time. The main meal cane first. Waited 40 minutes for drinks. Ordered more drinks, about 20 minutes later we asked the waitress where they were. She forgot to put them through. The ends portions are small, I had a pizza and was full however my 2 friends ordered chicken and were still hungry after.
Had to ask for the card machine as she left us with the bill for a considerable amount of time. We would have had coffees but we probably would have got them for breakfast! The place is very nice but the service let’s it down
Another good meal in a friendly and pleasant surroundings
Disappointed with Sunday lunch, roast potatoes and parsnips appeared to have been boiled and browned .
I booked the Crown for my mums birthday dinner on the Saturday 25th November as I had seen generally good feedback online. I used to frequent the Crown many years back and on entering the bar area I was impressed by the refurbishment as it does look very modern and stylish. Unfortunately that’s where the Crown continuing to impress pretty much ended for my guests and I. On arrival I let the restaurant know we had arrived a bit early and was told the table was ready, come through whenever..we literally finished our drinks in the bar and went through, only to be told they’d given our table away. Not great! Had to wait till other guests had finished, cleared/reset tables. Offered complimentary drink, of which only one turned up. To be honest, they weren’t particularly interested that we had to wait or drinks didn’t turn up..it was difficult to get anyone’s attention. The staff and staff in general seemed uninterested and overworked. Food in the end was pretty average..nothing special, except the price. Which although wasn’t extortionate, was pricey for average food. You get better for less elsewhere. It appears you’re paying for the nice setting..which is lovely until it becomes noisy, hard to get to the bar and doorstaff start policing the main entrance after a certain time. All of which detracts from what could be a nice place.. Would I go back..not for a meal as it’s overpriced and not all that really in terms of service or quality..possibly for a drink with mates. When I was younger this was one of the places everyone went to be seen, looks as if it’s still that place for some, just jazzed up and capitalising on the gastro-pub revolution. I’m also sure it’s part of a group, as I went to the Mermaid for Sunday lunch..v similar menu. However the food was exceptional, service was far superior and the bill was surprisingly low. In short the whole experience was much better..so if it is part of a group, then the Crown could learn a few lessons from the Mermaid.
Food was delicious, portion size has seemed to decrease however.
Only issue was the bar was slightly understaffed so the queues were huge at times.
Apart from that the table service was good.
It was great
Food poor quality and overlooked , service very slow, no staff around
your booking system let the crown down and no table was available!!!! - do not use this site to make reservations - it doesnt work
