We waited 45 minutes for our starters and ended up having to send one back (twice!) so in the end, we were there for 1 hour 30 minutes and my partner had not eaten anything! We were then told our mains would be another 10 minutes so we left. Seemed to be similar experiences across most tables. Staff we very apologetic and did not charge us for the starters or drinks but all in all, a very poor experience. Went to Veeno around the corner instead where we were given great service and food!! Won't be returning unfortunately.
We were the only people in the restaurant but still waited 30 mins. for our starters and another 30 mins for mains. Too slow and too expensive.
WOW what a gem, nestled in a less than salubrious area in the centre of Stratford. The welcome, service and food was genuinely exceptional. Katy and her staff are attentive and friendly hosts. I had duck, which was cooked well (I mean still pink), and the tastiest dish I have had in a restaurant for years. We were advised that the food would take a while as it was cooked from scratch (and we could tell it was), and were offered free nibbles while we waited. My friends had lamb and sea bream, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Its a real shame for Prospero that they had full bookings but a lot of people didn't bother turning up or cancelling. This restaurant deserves to be up there in the top restaurants in Stratford.
Best place to eat in Stratford, so good amazing lamb and duck. Brilliant service, had a really brilliant time
The food was excellent quality & cooked to order. Everything about the meal was perfect, we look forward to coming back another day.
Great evening great staff great food. Loved it will go again.
We had a pleasant meal at Prospero, however, it did not meet expectations. It describes itself as 'fine dining', however, that was sadly not the case. The lack of table linens and fabric napkins set an extremely casual tone upon entering. Food presentation was average although some of it was very tasty--in particular, the baked camembert with 'homemade' bread sticks and caramelised onions. Our main courses of ribeye steak and duck breast were nice but not memorable. Felt the £90 price tag for our 2 course meal with a bottle of wine was not great value. Prospero has some way to go to become a special culinary destination.
This is a nicely fitted-out restaurant in an off-pitch site in Stratford. It was very quiet the day we went, but the manageress was excellent and very friendly. Unfortunately the food was disappointing, both quality and portion size for the price charged. If they can lift the cooking standard and spread the word, it could do well, but it won't be easy.
nice meal helpfull and friendly staff
would go again
A pleasant surprise, as the restaurant is under new management. The food was excellent and the service prompt and friendly. Definitely recommended.
The food was fabulous, the staff welcoming, and restaurant itself warm and nicely laid out. The only small negative is the location and frontage. If the restaurant was located 200m further east, it would be in a smarter area, and the frontage itself needs refreshing and uplifting. Indeed, we walked by it 4 times (the OpenTable location is not that accurate) and was even on the verge of not going in once we found it! Do yourselves a favour and look past the neighbouring shops and enjoy a decent meal.
After reading some other recent reviews, we were a little worried, but this was unfounded. We had scallops to start, and were cooked to perfection, lightly seared and subtlety seasoned and cooked with samphire and smoked ham. Our mains were the lamb rack, which were very tender, beautifully pink and super tasty with mustard dressing. To finish we had the creme brulle and chocolate mouse, both were really good.
All in all, this was a really pleasant evening meal. I can't comment on other people's experience, but for us it was really good and would like to see these guys do well. We have eaten at several other locations in Stratford over the past few evenings, from the Michelin star Salt, to Loxley's and then the Alveston Manor, and Prospero is certianly is not out of place when comparing quality and price.
Thanks and good luck.
Food was poor quality, scallops were tiny and not fresh,, not worth £10. Duck breast ok but served with cold vegetables and inedible dauphinois potatoes. Skate wing was awful. Service was pleasant but main courses took forever, and would have been better not to have arrived. Decent wine and beer. The senior waiter was embarrassed, and reduced the bill very substantially.
However that did not make up for our disappointment. Last time we were there two years ago, it was delightful. Very sad, for the nice front of house staff.
Less “Prospero”, more “Comedy of errors”!
We visited on a quiet Wednesday evening and the restaurant has only been open a few weeks. There was one table of 6 already seated and about to order and another table of 2 about to finish. We were given a pleasant welcome and shown to our table. When we received our menus it was explained to us that a couple of the dishes had been changed following feedback that they’d received in the preceding couple of weeks: all good.
We ordered the scallops and the pork cheek tortellini to start and two portions of duck for our main course. The scallops were short of seasoning so not great, and the tortellini were tasteless and flabby. We then had a long wait for our mains to arrive which came with the explanation that the table of 6 had arrived late leading to a delay in the kitchen: I’m sorry but if you have a restaurant that is capable of seating 30 and you only have 10 people in it (2 more people had arrived a little after we did) then I don’t accept that having a table arrive late is a reasonable excuse for the kitchen not being able to cope! Anyway, we tried to eat the duck dishes that we had ordered only to find that we could not cut through the duck breasts with our knives! I’m sorry to say that we returned the dishes and left.
This restaurant advertises on its front door “Fine dining” and it certainly doesn’t do this, either in atmosphere or in service (though this was fine it certainly wasn’t “fine dining” standard) and definitely not in food.
All good, great food
Short visit to Stratford
A little more expensive than I remember (we've been quite a few times, just not recently), service was ok (I think we had a newish staff member serve us) but the food and drinks were very good. A good evening. We will be back.
Second time we have eaten here and it didn’t disappoint. Food and service were excellent again.
Excellent Had a great evening. The expresso martinis were perfectly made. The only tiny comment was that two or three of us would have preferred the duck to have been pink.
Not a great deal of atmosphere but decent food at a fair price.
I was slightly put off by the exterior of the restaurant as it resembled more like a cafe however I could not fault a thing once I was inside. Service was excellent and the food was outstanding. A little bit pricier than we normally pay however due to the quality of the food it was worth every penny.
Good food from a simple menu, accompanies by very nice wine served by excellent staff. Would hapily recommend or eat there again.
Absolutely gorgeous Sunday beef roast. Would highly recommend it and will definately be back.
Lovely staff also.
We had a lovely meal at "The Scullery", every dish was served in a nice way and absolutely delicious! Would especially like to mention the liver-dish if you're of that liking! Staff were friendly and great and helped make our evening out perfect! Thank you very much "Team Scullery"!
With all best wishes,
Pia and the other 5
Delicious food. Nice, small wine list. Maybe the hake could have been cooked a little less? Lovely bread! Scallops super. Very good cheeses.
The Scullery was clean and tidy, the staff were really friendly and the food was fantastic. We would highly recommend the Scullery to anyone who enjoys their food.
Lovely food and personnel. Thanks, it was a good evening! 👍👍
We celebrated a 'special birthday' here on Saturday 26 September. The food was absolutely delicious. Each course was fresh, hot, full of flavour and presented professionally.
All the staff wore masks, hand gel was provided on arrival and individual bottles were on each table. And tables had been well spaced out.
The staff were excellent.
If I lived nearer this would definitely become a regular place to eat.
Lived in dtrspatea for years . It was a first trip to the Scullery.
It’s location means the food has to do the talking alone and it sure does .
Go and enjoy it’s. A hidden gem !’
We will be going back
Great lunch in unprepossessing surroundings, impressive food, fresh local ingredients, an excellent restaurant
Had an amazing meal with my partner on Saturday evening. The main courses were divine with us sampling the duck and the pork. By far the best main courses we have had for a long time. Really glad we chose to dine here.
Lovely small restaurant very quiet food was ok we all had steak which was nice we were a table of four so we felt we where a bit noisy as all other tables where couples obviously due to covid tables where well spaced out
What an amazing place !! Great food lovely atmosphere and great house wine too.
Good social distancing and very relaxing considering the times we are in.
Small welcoming restaurant delivered first class meals. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
So glad we booked this restaurant, it's a hidden gem and we'll worth visiting, the staff are fantastic giving a great service from you the time you walk through the door.
The food is amazing, cooked to perfection and delicious, you will not be disappointed.
The restaurant is lovely, a perfect setting for an enjoyable meal on a date night or one with friends.
We had a great evening here, I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone local that has never been and to anyone visiting the area to try it.
Don't change a thing guys, the service the food and the atmosphere were perfect, thank you.
Lovely place serving seasonal food, limited menu done well and with loving care
Tucked away, but find this little gem for a first class meal
We really enjoyed dinner here. Food was extremely good quality, tasty and well presented. Service was polite and cheerful, and lovely ambience.
Very tasty dishs, made especially just for us. Made with quality ingredients and main course really good portions and filling.
Very good food and service but there were only two tables of two people in the restaurant at the time so it lacked atmosphere not the usual buzz
It was my 80th birthday and we found the food, ambience and service excellent.
