Public School - Sherman Oaks
the menu has changed since I've last been. not as much selection, esp. the salads. I had the tuna poke bowl - not much flavor. i was disappointed compared to previous visits.
Each of us thought our meal was very tasty. We ahi bowl, bison burger, salmon plate, chicken bowl. We would recommend-- just a little too noisy to hear well!!!
This is a go-to place and always a great experience. Thank you!
First time at Public School and overall it was a good experience. It has a pub-like atmosphere do expect a pretty high noise level but it's very cozy and welcoming. Service was pretty prompt and the drinks and appetizer came out in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered one of their specialty drinks with ginger beer in it and discovered I am not a fan of ginger beer; however the server graciously switched it out for a glass of wine. My partner ordered The Mess, tasty he said but not worthy of the name as it was nowhere near being a hearty sandwich. I ordered the pan seared chicken entree which I did enjoy. The chicken was cooked perfectly, seasoned nicely; the vegetables and the sauce for both were both very good. My only issue is that the portions, like the sandwich were very small. It was quite a small 1/2 chicken breast, and about 3 fork fulls of vegetables. The goat cheese polenta cake was delicious. I was impressed by how obliging the staff is and their eagerness to be sure you were enjoying your dinner experience there. Just wish the plates were a little more substantial.
I guess we were not lucky that evening! The service was very slow...no one came to refill our iced teas, or ginger ale, the apple juice was some kind of sparkly beverage that tasted nothing. The fish taco was cold, and the fish and chips...the fish was so greasy, so were the fries, that I could not eat any of it...I definitely will hesitate to ever come back to that restaurant!
Service is great; Logan is excellent.
We went during happy hour so the food and drink were well worth it. We shared the tacos and cauliflower all was good. Our server was very nice and helpful but I think they were busy so the service was a bit slow but not a problem.
This was a hot mess. Burnt cauliflower bites to start, dried out chicken in my chicken bowl, cold fries and our server was no where to be found. We were never even asked if we wanted dessert.
It's a find place to meet up with friends and be able to sit for a bit to catch up. Pretzel was delishous, my friend liked her PBJ Burger very much, but the other three of us all ordered the Sante Fe bowl, and all felt it lacked... flavor. Which is odd, because it seemed like it should have bee FULL of flavor considering it has Pico de Gallo. Server was very sweet and attentive. And we were able to sit for 2+ hrs (of course we only saw our Server every 20 minutes or so.. because we were outside, and they apparently gave him a split station inside and out. A good deal of ground for him to cover!
Patio sesting is noisy. High traffic corner, police and fire engine activity along with speeding cars and motorcycles. Food was fair.
Great service. The bison burger was delicious & flavorful!
Date with another couple
I hadn't been to Public School 818 in quite a while, but the food and drink are still excellent. The service is friendly. We sat outside because it was freezing and extremely noisy inside. Definitely not a spot for intimate conversation, but an enjoyable place for an informal meal and a cocktail.
Great meeting place. Good vibes and service is attentive.
Great happy hour on the patio! Nice selection of food in the “recess” menu (HH)
Excellent meals, excellent service. We’ll be back.
Love the drinks and the food. They have enough of a variety for vegetarians, gluten free friends. Great for groups and small gatherings.
We had a good time. The place is easily accessible-one girl was on crutches and another person on cane. And the parking was close by and again easy. The server was attentive and cheerful without being in our faces. The menu was good- everybody has quirks so it worked out so that everybody could find something to eat. And there was no pressure to rush through lunch so that the table could get turned over. The only draw back was the noise from the traffic but we were the ones that choose to sit outside---we might think of going inside next time.
Would like to see a more varied menu, but location and ease of parking makes this a convenient if not exceptional place for a casual lunch. Waiter had a wonderful demeanor and aimed to please.
This is a great place. One of my very favorite go to spots.
Waiter was rude, dismissive, and inattentive.
The polenta was a perfect texture - no easy feat. Great room, attentive service, solid beer and wine selection. Consider making this a regular.
This is a great go-to Gastro pub in the neighborhood. The food is consistently good they have happy hour specials. The bartending staff is great. I prefer the bar to sitting at a table in general there. We frequent the place and like it it.
I’ve passed by this place many times and finally went as a date night with my husband. We have heard great things about this place so we were excited! We got seated and the waiter seemed serious. Bad day? Not really sure. Maybe he was new? Ordered the wings as an appetizer and they had to much fat for my taste. The drinks were delicious! I ordered the light my fire and it was amazing! I love sweet drinks. My husband loved his beer. Food came and I ordered the What Came first? My husband got the PS Burger. I thought the food in general was okay. Nothing that wowed me or my husband. It was a little disappointing that we added mushrooms to the PS Burger and we only got 4 little pieces of mushroom for $2.
We ordered their brownie sundae and since we have a sweet tooth we loved it of course.
Overall it was an okay experience.
We would definitely come back for drinks!
I would recommend Public School Sherman Oaks for their delicious French toast and their friendly service. Adjacent to the restaurant is a huge parking lot, where one could park their own c ar. But you have to Valet park, which costs $10.00, $5.00 if you validate. I find that outrageously expensive for a restaurant which is not a fancy one.
Great place to meetafter work!
Service is always friendly and efficient here (from the valets to the host/hostess and servers). And the food is a great value- also delicious!
Love PS usually. I think it was an off night for them. My Crispy chicken sandwich was very dry. Service a little slow. But I will be back again
Went for Happy Hour. Need a few more HH food selections. Other than that, pretty good.
Good food, great drinks and good service. Love the happy hours there too.
Food was excellent! Service was slow... And Acoustics aren't the best... Seems to be common in all restaurants though.
Their portions are getting smaller. Had some folk complain about the service but the service I thought was pretty good. They're just lacking in the kitchen. Used to really love this place.
Nice atmosphere. Great service, food and cocktails.
Delicious as always! The food is consistently great and there is always innovative selections. Nice that Happy hour goes until 7:00, though a better beer section for Happy Hour would be great from a place that has so many taps. Food is a little skimpy for the price on Happy hour too, but regular menu has good portions. Valet parking is only option and is $5.
The food was very good and the service spot on. The location is quite convenient. I'll definitely be back!
Great food and fast service
Great value, great food, great service!! My first time there and won’t be the last.
LOVED THIS PLACE! Went for a 1st date, the environment was fun, food was great and drinks were amazing! Staff was friendly and checked on us just enough. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!
