Service is cliquey and rude on the door and I have been twice now and they have had no food with no apology. No point booking a table for food and turning up ready to eat if they're going to just not serve food.Plus.Their drinks menu revolves around no waste from the kitchen which is cringe to hear the staff explain without food coming from the kitchen.
Love this place hence why I booked it for food for my birthday but very disappointed that when we arrived we were told there was no chef. We could have been notified before hand as we wanted to eat there so had to quickly Make other plans which wasn’t ideal.
Great cocktails and lovely space. We had a really great afternoon there.
Great cocktails great fun , olives were delicious , good music on the vinyl player
Delicious, creative cocktails and lovely tapas. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. Relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Public is an exceptional place! Beautiful interior, amazing cocktails (we have never tasted such complex and wonderful creations) and unbelievably good food (curtesy of Drew Snaith, guest chef during our visit). All the staff are amazing hosts, with a wealth of knowledge about the food and drinks they prepare for you. A Sheffield gem.
Great bar, amazing cocktails! Stairway to Devon(I think that’s the name) cocktail is just WOW.
We did book a table for food though and they weren’t serving food when we got there so maybe a bit more communication prior to us coming would have been good. Other than that would definitely recommend.
Lovely atmosphere and wonderful cocktails
An amazing experience - the cocktails really take you on a journey. It is such an intimate feel and a unique venue.
Well we couldn’t have wished for a better experience! Spot on service, fabulous food and delectable drinks. Apologies for the alliteration. Can’t wait to go again!
We had a table of 4 people reserved. Each of us drank 2 glasses of wine and the bill came to £64 !!!!
£64 for 8 glasses of wine, which were only small glasses at that.
Not worth the visit.
So this was an after dinner drinks for four people. I booked in advance which is the first time I’ve done that for a table here, but definitely worth doing on a busy Saturday night.
The drink selection is great and we love how different it is to anywhere else.
I feel bad about giving 4 stars for service but we did wait over 30 minutes for our first round which seemed odd considering it’s such a small venue. That being said, as ever the table service was excellent and I would recommend anyone who likes somewhere a bit different and off the beaten track to try a few drinks here.
Booked a table for 2, after 5 minutes was rudely told not asked that are table was going to be shared and a couple were sat down and the guy then walked away saying nothing else not even asking if we wanted to order. We left
Attentive knowledgeable staff quirky fun environment fantastic cocktails. Thoroughly recommend
Excellent venue for a small party of people or couple. Lovely atmosphere with great tunes playing and attentive service. Delicious small plates to nibble while sipping on exquisite cocktails. A taste sensation!
Food was out of his world and the chef was lovely!!! Cocktails were yum and the staff couldn’t of been nicer!
I love this place! We’ve been before and had to take my parents when they came up fo the weekend. They were blown away too!
The place- It’s a great, relaxed and intimate ambience with excellent music at a volume low enough for you to have a good conversation. The staff are friendly and helpful and have a great sense of humour.
The drinks- We haven’t tried the food (although it looks great) but the drinks are incredible! Fascinating and delicious flavour combinations that become a real talking point. The staff are happy to sit down and talk you through everything. Even if you have an annoying number of questions ( “So how does one wash rum with duck fat?”). You might expect that somewhere with such a refined sense of taste would come across a bit superior but not at all. I’ve never seen my mum laughing at a menu with such glee before ( it was an intentional joke on the menu).
If you want standard drinks in a normal town bar this place probably isn’t for you - although they do have a couple of beers on tap- but if you want weird and wonderful drinks that you’ll remember for years do yourself a favour and get down to Public
We treated our family to a belated Mother’s Day experience and the staff at Public were great, so accommodating and options for every taste!
I love cocktails at the Public! Its my second visit already and they had a new menu from the last time I went, but even better! I love their creativity !
The drinks were the most disgusting drinks I’ve ever tasted
The menu for the cocktails was just weird and very confusing
Unless you’re a toilet dwelling hipster this place should not be visited
Service is not great at all. They have a great bar but don’t seem to be proud to work there. Women knocking up great cocktails but didn’t smile once.
More attention to detail needed from them all. Actually asked a couple to leave when they were about to order another drink.....they needed the table!!! Wow!
The first question they say to everyone is “do you have a booking”! Not hello and welcome.....
Been twice but I don’t think I’d return now.
Poor choice of drinks and food, wouldn't rush back
Nice unique venue for a meal and drinks out with friends but be prepared to pay a premium.
Waiter friendly enough and explained all about the different types of cocktails in detail.
Food and drinks expensive. Found the whole experience a little on the pretentious side though this may suit other people. I felt the food was a bit "style over substance" and the options were limited.
One dish included only 2 spring onions, some creme fraiche and some bits of Lardo (Italian fat) - which for £8 I felt was a bit expensive. Others were better e.g. smoked rabbit with polenta.
Platter was better though the sourdough bread was not as fresh as would have liked.
Drinks - 125ml glass was generally £7 minimum so definitely at top end. Friend asked for Rose - got what was clearly warm red wine - waiter insisted it WAS a Rose and meant to be room temperature - maybe? but then did bring a glass of chilled Rose.
Asked for small plates so we could share out our choices - in the end had to go up to chef and ask for these ourselves.
Highly recommended. The care and attention put into designing and making the cocktails is exceptional. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. Public highly deserves its awards and we are lucky to have it in Sheffield. I’ll definitely be back!
Great cocktail spot, lovely drinks and great ambience.
Very strict on table times - upon giving our table up at the allotted time we were stood in the bar area waiting for a friend to come out of the bathroom and we were asked to wait outside. Im quite happy to give up a table at a time as its a small place and knew this going in. However I wasn't pleased to be almost ushered out of the door after spending £60 on drinks in an hour and a half.
Fantastic service from very helpful friendly staff. Great music selection, all on vinyl. Unique cocktail list and decor. Will definitely return.
Great place, lovely concept and the staff were what made it. The food is very disappointing- it was like being served a side dish of vegetables with a load of unnecessary nothingness and that seemed to constitute a meal. Cocktails were hit and miss- my friends was delicious but mine not so much and i left it. They give tap water on your table which is served room temperature from a jug on the bar. Sheffield tap water is normally fine but this tasted awful- maybe add some ice/cucumber/ lemon? All in all will visit again but won’t eat there again.
Very unique and creative cocktails, some of the best I've ever had, great food and music too!
Wonderful service as always, absolutely delicious food (we ended up ordering another spaghetti!) and exquisite wine. We’ll be back!
A really quirky place to drink amazing cocktails. I can’t wait to return to try a few more.
We had come before Christmas and really enjoyed both the cocktails and food. This time around, the food menu seemed far more limited. Cocktails were enjoyable, but disappointed that the negroni i have raved about to friends from my visit the first time had been removed from the menu! Big disappointment. Food very tasty and well put together, but we had hoped for a broader selection of dishes. This is an expensive venue.
My favourite bar in Sheffield and a perfect place to relax away from the city centre madness. Everything is done so well and I absolutely love it.
We were quite a large party (10) and you did a great job in looking after us, thank you. The booth we were in was private and cosy. You flagged in advance that we would be a little squashed - which we were (the booth is a perfect fit for 6-8) but we were prepared. The service was efficient and well paced. I think the cocktails are excellent value, innovative and delicious. Loved Norfolk Street and the bread one! Stick to the hard stuff, beer and wine is excessively expensive (£4 for a half pint and £11 for 175ml?). The shared plates were delicious and good finger option for our group, but again quite pricey £14 for a plate of olives, bread, anchovies, cured meats, nuts. Really love the conversion from gents to funky and charming space that's perfect to celebrate a special do. A polished speakeasy!
Just a bit special. Great place to go if you want to feel fancy and sophisticated. The meat and fish sharing board was delicious.
Drinks were amazing service was incredible the guy who served us was fab don’t know his name but had a septum piercing water was topped up perfectly every 15 mins would definitely come back again!!! xx
We had the perfect evening. Very unique location and bar. Food was outstanding and the cocktails were the best i've ever had. I will definitely be returning here.
Our table was booked for 7 pm on a Saturday (with a 7-8.30 pm slot). We arrived promptly (just before the time) and were asked to wait while the doorman confirmed our booking with the house staff. We waited 5 minutes before the doorman came back and he told us that the staff would indicate when the table was ready. Another 5 mins went by and we were called down for our table at 7.10 pm. Service in there was good and the food was excellent, although many options were missing (if a venue operates on a booking system, surely it should be reasonably easy to predict demand for food). We had one cocktail (delicious!) and ordered another. At 8.05 pm, prior to our second cocktail arriving, we were told by our server that we would need to vacate our table at 8.30pm. Given that we were delayed being seated by 10 minutes originally, this felt like we were being rushed. Appreciate that it is important for bookings to be kept to time, but we were not even offered the option of taking a seat at the bar to finish our drinks without being hurried, which would have been a nice gesture. Overall, Public seems like a nice place as the food and drink were lovely and I would be tempted to come back on a weekday, but I did come away with the feeling that the customer experience wasn't really a priority.
We had an incredible time at Public! What a spectacularly special little place :)
The cocktail menu is extensive and very unique, the light bites were original and delicious and the service.... second to none! Our waitress was attentive, friendly and knowledgable, making our whole experience pretty perfect. We could have happily whiled away the afternoon sampling cocktails if we didn’t have to leave for the theatre!
Public is a triumph !
Thanks for a great evening from start to finish! Loved the ice cubes too!
Went for my husband’s birthday, the food was so good and the cocktails were outstanding. Love the decor and autmosphere they’ve created. Great to have a venue like this in Sheffield.
