After a decade-long love affair with Argentinian food and culture, award-winning chef Aktar Islam (Michelin Star, The F-Word, Great British Menu) brings you Pulperia. A celebration of beef, Aktar promises the best grass-fed beef from Argentina and from around the world, including using purebreeds such as Herefordshire, Angus, Fresian and 17 year old Galician Blonde. Cows are aged from two, to seventeen years, and some cuts are aged for up to ninety days. The Pulperia menu represents serious regional Argentinian cooking, but with a simple, laid-back approach. From regional classics such empanada and traditional beef of the most exquisite quality, to the bold rubs and chimichurri that inspired Aktar during his extensive travels.     Traditional British Sunday Roast with Argentine Sirloin with all the traditional trimmings in a family service style of roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, heritage carrots & cauliflower with a bone marrow & malbec sauce. We love a Sunday Roast and can't wait for you to share it with us. Unfortunately, we also hate throwing things away or running out and would require you to choose which menu you will be ordering from at this point in booking!

Sunday lunch at Pulperia is a must do. The food is delicious, generously portioned and the value is exceptional. One of my 10 best food experiences in Birmingham. The staff are excellent and while I don’t want to pick anyone out high praise goes to the wonderful sommelier who let me try her Alycone Tannat. But all the staff are very attentive without overdoing it. A great Birmingham restaurant.

The staff are lovely. The ambience is very nice - especially the bar area and the far dining area and the dining area by the door. However, the wine list is very poor ( but they at least have Ruinart) and the menu, whilst looking amazing, does not live up to expectations - nowhere near.
The 3 prawn starter necessitated a major cleaning up of fingers face and chin following consumption but worse was to come. I somehow believed that an 18 year old cow would be edible. Its not. It is as tough as you would expect. So when youve disregarded the many sharing options, you are down to the basics of fillet, sirloin, rump or ribeye. Having sent my geriatric offering back as inedible, I chose the fillet which was tender, but uninspiring in taste. The fries and the beans in salsa sides were however superb. The experience was a huge disappointment and it is such a shame that the very capable staff are given such dreadful tools (wine and meat), to do their job.
I am minded that the proprietors attempt at an Italian restaurant only lasted a few months before closing so the writing us on the wall. His Indian offering is however nothing short of excellent.
If you want a nice steak then a few of the London venues will serve you well, like Cut or Hawksmoor or Popeye's (yes!).
If you have to stay local then im sorry to say you'd be better off at a Miller and Carter........and substantially richer upon departure. Whilst my steak wasnt charged for, the prices of the steaks necessitate a huge improvement in quality.
I won't be returning until the restaurant changes.

Pleasant atmosphere with quiet music playing. Good service. Starters seemed large in size and heavy in taste - we had octopus and tartare. The main courses were served immediately after we finished starters so we were still full and could not finish the mains. Disappointed with that. Excellent wine choice.

We came to Pulperia for Sunday Lunch as an anniversary treat. My partner didn’t know we were going and it was definitely worth the surprise. The staff were so lovely, the food was great and the atmosphere was spot on. I would definitely recommend! They gave us a little plate saying happy anniversary and it really made the whole experience! Thank you Pulperia, we will be back!

The food was lovely, the service was extraordinarily poor, ordering a drink or asking for cutlery was very difficult and that was the resounding outcome of my wife’s birthday dinner. I would say that everyone was very polite and professional so I can only assume that due to COVid they are short staffed perhaps? Adding a 10% service fee automatically, which I didn’t notice on the online nor paper menu, choked slightly when paying the bill.

The service at Pulperia is like no other in Birmingham, the staff have an in depth knowledge of the menu and are extremely welcoming and helpful. The food is fantastic, we both opted for the chorizo starter, and the fillet and porterhouse main, followed by churros and the fondant dessert. You can tell that a lot of effort has been invested into this menu, every single flavor is spot on in every dish. We will be back - thank you!

Being a beef speciality restaurant, it surprisingly ran out of beef for Sunday roasts (despite only having two options and selecting it specifically upon booking). Disappointingly the roast potatoes were worse than I would expect from an average carvery.

Overall not the experience you might expect from a chef like Aktar Islam.

Our waitress didn’t understand us very well when asking questions couldn’t explain the menu very well .
No draft beer which is a no no and poor selection of Over priced bottled beers ,
Very subdued atmosphere for a Saturday night compared to other restaurants ,
Gusto offers better steak and drinks and atmosphere for your money and no service charge .

Excellent meal at Pulperia. Our first time visiting but really enjoyed it.

The bread with beef butter should NOT be ignored. Beautiful taste. Prawn and chorizo starters were favourites. Steak was fantastic and cooked really well. Desserts were great too. Nice to have fresh churros as an option and find they're freshly cooked rather than some warmed up frozen rubbish we've had elsewhere.

Will definitely return.

Vegetables were cold, small amount of beef, not good value!
We were offered water when we sat down which they then proceeded to charge us £10 for.
We got an egg cup amount of gravy each (no exaggeration), when we asked for some more, they brought us another egg cup amount and charged us £2 for it!
The churros were awful, overcooked, fatty and hard!
Would not dine there again.

First visit to Pulperia to sample the Sunday lunch menu. Very stylish restaurant, attentive staff and excellent food. The quality of the beef is very good and the selection of vegetables is also a plus. My only minor quibble is that my wife was subsequently charged for asking for additional gravy - slightly disappointing.

Booked a table for 4 of us just as a get together, shown the table and given menus most politely and very professional. When contemplating the menu one of our party simply asked a question regarding one of the sides containing garlic he sarcastically replied back it’s on the menu if you read it but it clearly didn’t and she just wanted to make sure before ordering, I found it rude and unnecessary especially when you pay good money, and the only other down side to the meal was I didn’t like how they serve one bowl of fries between 2 steaks ordered not so much about portion size just the way it’s served. Desserts were extremely delicious. We normally use another Argentinian restaurant but chose to try this one on this occasion and think from this we will return to that one in future

Wow! The food was amazing, cocktails amazing and the venue was amazing!

If you like steak, and want to have a high end steakhouse experience, then this is the place for you! Definitely one of Birmingham’s best restaurants.
