Pythouse Kitchen Garden
We have been meaning to visit for months so there was always a danger that Pythouse would disappoint. Thankfully not! Beautiful setting and a fantastic room, artfully decorated with pumpkins for the autumn. The food was delicious especially the terrine but star of the show was the autumn cocktail!
This was our second visit to Pythouse inside of a week, having only just discovered it. On both occasions the food was great and the service excellent.
Pity the weather the second time didn't allow for a walk around the gardens.
A beautiful restaurant and garden, with amazing food. Everything is seasonal and fresh and it shows in the dishes. The staff were very professional and welcoming , service was quick during lunch. Will be back soon!
Lovely atmosphere. First time visiting an evening supper. Set menu but you can tell them if you allergic or don't eat something. Lovely cocktail and canapes. The main halibut and creamy mash was lovely although mash was cold . The vegetables were slightly uncooked and abit to salty. Pudding of figs and honey with mascarpone was delious overall would recommend and would return
Scallops starter was delicious l!
Went a little downhill from there.
Maybe because we booked for 2:30?
We had the smoked salmon with potatoes and celeriac & apple salad.
Too much sauce / butter smothered the potatoes and parts of fish which made it inedible. I mentioned this as I hadn’t eaten it but no response tbh. Side order of charred sweet corn was not crisp as it should be but mushy?
It was all we hoped for refreshing ,modern and very good unusual food
Beautiful food in a stunning secluded setting. Sadly service was a little slow & was told chips came with the fish cakes & therefore not necessary to order extra. But when the fish cakes came there where no chips!! We had to ask for them & my husband had already eaten one of his fish cakes before they arrived!
Pythouse is a bit of a hidden gem which has its attraction however it doesn’t help when you are trying to find it & the satnav doesn’t help much.
It would be worthwhile to have signage out on the country roads
Amazing meal. Very good service. Fab location. lucky to have increible weather that day. I took my daughter and 21month old grand daughter here as a treat to remember and reflect upon my recently departed mum. We made some great memories and had a really fantsatic time. I adore this place and the service is very good indeeed. Highly recommend this venue.
First visit. Lovely setting. Table booked for 8 but only laid for 7. Food excellent but service very slow. Quite quick when asked for the bill. Loos need upgrading...........1 They were awful and obviously not cleaned regularly!
Perfect stop for a Client lunch
On a surprisingly sunny day in September it was a real pleasure to sit out in the garden and eat good quality food with a nice glass of wine. It really is a beautiful place and the outdoor cooking added something else to make it very special. We will make sure we spend more time there from now on!
A lovely setting for a special reunion and we enjoyed a walk round the impressive garden beforehand. The site and smell of the barbecue on the way in had our mouths watering! All the staff were polite and welcoming and the food certainly did not disappoint! We will be back!
Another fabulous luncheon at Pythouse Kitchen Garden. The food was sublime as always and it’s so lovely to follow with a walk around the amazing gardens. Looking forward to our next visit.
Such a great place for lunch. Food fantastic and beautifully presented. We will be back.
Excellent food and ambiance.. Sadly service was disappointing. I believe they had been let down by a member of staff.
Was a beautiful setting and very unique decor. However we waited an hour and 20 minutes for our main course, when it did arrive it was cold and had to be sent back. The waiting staff were very apologetic and took money off our bill. I would still visit again in the hope of a better experience as it is a lovely venue.
We were generally pleased with our first visit and enjoyed the ambience of a country kitchen. Very good service, customer care and a wide ranging menu. The downside was that three of us changed our preferred main course as the beef was apparently a little tough following an observation from another guest. My wife changed her choice to the chicken choice but found the chicken breast somewhat dry. I had the pork belly, which was outstanding!
Our two lady guests were not taken by the trip to the ladies room a) with little lighting along the route (the same for the trip back to the car on departure) and b) not the best of facilities in our travels. Not sure how this would work min winter.
However, we will return again. Thank you to the very nice and caring lady who looked after our table.
This is our second time dining at the garden and we will be back again! The food is fresh and nicely cooked and good portions too! We have eaten inside twice but the outside dining looks great for a larger party or family. Our only small complaint was we had to wait quite a long time for our puddings as you were very busy, plus the mozzarella wasn’t on the starter but arrived later with an apology!
Lovely meal in beautiful setting. Have been many times before and will go again!
I like very much that you are dog friendly and eating in the marquee was excellent with my puppy.
The waiter was charming helpful and friendly but the service was a little slow. There seemed to be a long wait between courses.
Lovely setting. Some of the chairs are very uncomfortable and I had to swap mine. One of our puddings was disappointing
My husband and I took our 6 year old granddaughter and elderly mother for lunch on Monday. The food seemed to all be smoked, even the salad dressing- just too much. My granddaughter and I are vegetarian and not fond of the the oft offered goats cheese, so had limited options. The service was very poor, not enough team on, and all very distracted, we had to ask for everything at least 4 times, even simple things like bread or water. It was unbearably hot inside, and we were kindly allowed to move outside and have our desserts- which took 45 minutes to come, but were excellent. The location is idyllic and as keen veg growers, we all loved the concept of cooking what’s ready in the garden. My husband and I will certainly come again, knowing what to expect food wise, and hopefully the service will be less chaotic.
Exceptional location, food and service. Will definitely be repeating the delightful experience!
Always look forward to going to Pythouse for a meal, cannot wait to take the family there! Our dog Daisy loves to come along too.
Outstanding food and really impressed with the kitchen garden. Service wasn't overly friendly and it became very noisy as the evening went on
An unusual menu infused with the garden. My chicken and bacon garden salad was delicious, as was my friend's mackerel. Lovely atmosphere and walking through the flower and vegetable garden afterwards really magical. Went on a week day. Loved it.
Ein unerwartet perfekter Abend.
Danke für das Gesamterlebnis. Jederzeit wieder
4 friend Loved this restaurant. The food was delicious and the venue was Devine. Food quite highly priced but understand that we were paying for fresh and quality. We will definitely return for special occasion meals and celebrations.
Fantastic evening, beautiful setting (even in the rain!), delicious food, friendly bright service and great ambience.
Was really looking forward to eating lunch here but found it overpriced and not good value for money. The burger was overcooked (almost black around edges) and dry, for £17.50 not good. Ordered a small portion of peas which initially came up on the bill as 3.95, only after querying the server admitted that was way too much and dropped it to 2.95. The dessert (a "garden mess") at £7.50 was overpriced too, very small portion with hardly any fruit, mostly cream. Only way I'd recommend is going for just tea and cake so as to enjoy the garden and lovely views, which were beautiful, even on a rainy day.
Always good here. Seasonal, local and well thought out. Staff always friendly. We return often and recommend it highly.
An unusual dining experience. Most enjoyable. Highly recommendable.
ALWAYS A JOY...JOYOUS DRIVE, JOYOUS FOOD, JOYOUS GARDENS AND JOYOUS PEOPLE.
Beautiful location, tasteful decoration, confident friendly staff, delicious food beautifully presented. A real treat to dine here.
Delicious food amazing surroundings and great service
There were a lot of flies inside
They need more toilet facilities
Great that it’s dog friendly though and excellent service
I would recommend only if you can sit in the garden. They were very kind in accommodating our larger group than originally booked, but then the service was not great. The food was slow to come out, and we received little service, having to ask for everything. The hostess was eager to help but not the rest of the staff. Underwhelming.
Excellent food and friendly staff as always. First time for breakfast and menu and prices were good. Garden looked amazing.
Our first visit was exceptional which is why we returned for our special celebration. Unfortunately, we were disappointed as a couple of the choices were no longer available - the starter was not as described in the Menu - profuse apologies were offered. The Champagne was not available as there was a problem with the Chiller Cabinet. The Wine we wanted was not available. The Brandy we ordered was not available but the substitute was acceptable. All in all we were disappointed as our celebratory visit was based on our first experience. However, the service by the staff and the quality of the food we did have was exemplorary.
I love this place - it’s in such a fantastic setting and the surroundings are so pretty. This is the first time I have been on a Sunday though and I was slightly disappointed. The service wasn’t really up to scratch and the food was just ok. The vegetarian option was particularly disappointing - it was just a sea of black beans with a few chargrilled vegetables on top. Everyone in our group said that their food was nice but not great. Beware of the Kitchen Garden Mess on the dessert menu - it was delicious but was served in an earthenware plant pot (very cute) but had no plate or saucer underneath and so I and the table became covered in juice from the berries leaking through the hole in the bottom!
