Pythouse Kitchen Garden
Fantastic evening, beautiful setting (even in the rain!), delicious food, friendly bright service and great ambience.
Was really looking forward to eating lunch here but found it overpriced and not good value for money. The burger was overcooked (almost black around edges) and dry, for £17.50 not good. Ordered a small portion of peas which initially came up on the bill as 3.95, only after querying the server admitted that was way too much and dropped it to 2.95. The dessert (a "garden mess") at £7.50 was overpriced too, very small portion with hardly any fruit, mostly cream. Only way I'd recommend is going for just tea and cake so as to enjoy the garden and lovely views, which were beautiful, even on a rainy day.
Always good here. Seasonal, local and well thought out. Staff always friendly. We return often and recommend it highly.
An unusual dining experience. Most enjoyable. Highly recommendable.
ALWAYS A JOY...JOYOUS DRIVE, JOYOUS FOOD, JOYOUS GARDENS AND JOYOUS PEOPLE.
Beautiful location, tasteful decoration, confident friendly staff, delicious food beautifully presented. A real treat to dine here.
Delicious food amazing surroundings and great service
There were a lot of flies inside
They need more toilet facilities
Great that it’s dog friendly though and excellent service
I would recommend only if you can sit in the garden. They were very kind in accommodating our larger group than originally booked, but then the service was not great. The food was slow to come out, and we received little service, having to ask for everything. The hostess was eager to help but not the rest of the staff. Underwhelming.
Excellent food and friendly staff as always. First time for breakfast and menu and prices were good. Garden looked amazing.
Our first visit was exceptional which is why we returned for our special celebration. Unfortunately, we were disappointed as a couple of the choices were no longer available - the starter was not as described in the Menu - profuse apologies were offered. The Champagne was not available as there was a problem with the Chiller Cabinet. The Wine we wanted was not available. The Brandy we ordered was not available but the substitute was acceptable. All in all we were disappointed as our celebratory visit was based on our first experience. However, the service by the staff and the quality of the food we did have was exemplorary.
I love this place - it’s in such a fantastic setting and the surroundings are so pretty. This is the first time I have been on a Sunday though and I was slightly disappointed. The service wasn’t really up to scratch and the food was just ok. The vegetarian option was particularly disappointing - it was just a sea of black beans with a few chargrilled vegetables on top. Everyone in our group said that their food was nice but not great. Beware of the Kitchen Garden Mess on the dessert menu - it was delicious but was served in an earthenware plant pot (very cute) but had no plate or saucer underneath and so I and the table became covered in juice from the berries leaking through the hole in the bottom!
Beautiful location, relaxed ambience. Delicious food cooked outdoors. Attentive service. A really enjoyable Sunday lunch.
Normally excellent but had a supper evening on and we found the lunch menu not nearly as good as normal. This would not put us off as usually excellent.
What a beautiful setting. It was a shame that the view is blocked by huge plants outside the window. The food looked amazing but being picky there were a few things which made it taste only ok.
The bread was soft but dense with streaks of flour through the middle - not quite sliced bread but not far off. I expected natural bread (eg sourdough) if all the fruit and veg are grown on site.
The bread came with tiny bit of butter so we had to request more. They cleared it away without asking when my starter was finished even though we still had bread to eat.
My starter was a goat curd cigar, which had clearly been prepared in advance because the ‘cigar’ was not crisp - quite stale in-fact. The beetroot with it was nice.
My open beef sandwich was, disappointingly, on the bread too. So I just had the beef (which was very good). The bread was also plastered in mustard which was totally overpowering. My husband had a burger which looked very good so I had total food envy with my very disappointing main meal.
The rosemary chips were tiny bits of chips (you know where it’s all bits and hardly any ‘chip’) which were slightly soggy and quite tasteless. I couldn’t taste the rosemary.
We decided against dessert given the rest of the food and had a coffee in the garden.
It’s such a shame the food doesn’t quite hit the spot because I think they would be busy every day of the week if they got it right, as the position is so beautiful.
Lunch meal. Excellent all around. Friendly, unpretentious, professional and in beautiful surroundings. Very good food, prepared to high standard at reasonable prices. Great selection and good wine (and other drinks) options. No negatives. Strongly recommend.
Pythouse is on my list for my summer visitors. It has that special ambience and it never fails to disappoint
We had great food and our waitress was amazing. Thank you
We had an absolutely delicious Sunday lunch "from the fire" sitting overlooking the beautiful gardens. We all chose different options and all thoroughly enjoyed our choices - particularly liked the roasted carrots and beetroot as an accompaniment. The service was excellent - efficient but discreet. We appreciated the dogs being brought a bowl of water. Will definitely be coming again.
A remarkable evening, blown away by how pretty the restaurant was with lights strung across the ceiling and flowers everywhere. The garden was beautiful. Sat outside initially but moved inside due to over friendly wasps. Ambience inside was lively and energetic. Service was very attentive. Food was delicious! Definitely visiting again soon.
Lovely setting and superb food. Will definitely be back!
Lovely venue for lunch or dinner. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Would thoroughly recommend.
This was my second visit to Pythouse Kitchen Garden and was a slight disappointment. The quality of the food for our starters and main courses was good - lovely and tasty - but the quantity was very mean. This was particularly in evidence for our first course of the scallops and chorizo - we had two small scallops each and two very thin slices of chorizo which for the price I thought was very poor value for money. Two of us ordered the same dessert - the Kitchen Mess. This was not good - too much cream, some meringue and hardly any fruit right at the bottom. As it was a birthday celebration I did not complain at the time but as a group we felt slightly cheated on the portion sizes. I am not sure if I would come back...
Stunning location, beautiful interior and exterior, excellent service & lovely food. Thank you.
Pyt Kitchen Garden it a treat to be enjoyed, excellent Food, wonderful staff, superb setting
A beautiful find in a lovely spot, would recommend it
We have been coming to the Pythouse regularly, but was surprisingly disappointed the last time we were there on Saturday. The service was not as good as it has been, and the wine was not served cold enough, there was a big party outside so it could have been the staff were a little overwhelmed. When we paid the waitress even forgot to take the cash from our table so we could have easily walked out without paying.
A beautiful location with really super food. A great find. we will be back!
Fantastic food and setting! Although I had advised that we were celebrating two birthdays, however no acknowledgement which is a shame.
Fantastic food. Lovely location and looking forward to returning soon.
Always such a pleasurable dining experience, would highly recommend
We really enjoyed our meal it was great food , we had lobster and a chicken salad then the Lemon Posset. The only let down was the waiter who bought us a full bottle of wine when we asked for a half bottle and then promptly forgot the glasses. I had to go and get them myself ! We also had a rather annoying man sat close to us with quite a loud voice which slightly took the edge off the dining experience for us. We loved walking around the walled garden which was beautiful and well cared for.
It was a lovely lunch for my Mother’s 88th Birthday, the service was slow to start with and we waited some time for our drinks to arrive, as it was a warm day and and my guests were elderly we needed water as soon as possible. But after that delay everything went well . The food was amazing, but my Mother and I shared the Duck which was dry and chewy, which my Mother couldn’t eat .
We will be back , but not for the Duck that was well dead !
Sitting out side over looking the gardens was fantastic.
Loved it sooo much. Thanks to the lovely staff and to everyone for making us so welcome and being so lovely. The sun was shining; its a perfect spot for a lovely summer lunch. It won't be the last time we visit.
Always a pleasurable experience, excellent food, superb staff, gorgeous setting
Super fresh, original food. Lovely salad. Deservedly popular. A tad too much chilli in the prawns. Congratulations to the team - especially the guys outside on the wood burners!
I have been many times but the most recent visit was a huge disappointment.
The venue was being used for a private party the following day and the prepartions were being carried out during our meal.We felt that the entire time we were there , they were all stressed by this event and well within an hour , we had eaten both courses .It was not at all relaxing and for well over £100 , not worth it.
Food wise was also a disappointment.Under ripe heritage tomatoes in some flavoured water was average but over priced at £9 for a starter .Just not as good as previous visits .Very disappointed.
Superb fresh food, friendly professional service, a great walled garden to walk around, and a lovely country atmosphere. We loved it!
Wonderful setting, lovely food with excellent service. Will be back when next in Dorset again next year. The glamping looks ace!
Lovely location scallops were not that fresh and overpowered by too many flavours - but lovely presentation - salmon was from the bbcue and was cold and salad leaves were slightly gritty - perhaps I was unlucky !! But a lovely ambient and gardens
