Pythouse Kitchen Garden
A great Christmas Turkey Dinner with a lovely Christmas pudding and home made ice cream to top it all off. Well done!!
We had a delicious meal - in season, from the garden or local. Great service and can thoroughly recommend.
We went on a "plunder the pantry" night so set menu, it was all delicious and the staff were very knowledgeable as well as attentive.
Set in the glorious kitchen gardens. Warm, welcoming and very beautiful. Only one criticism, one of our dishes was not that great. The wood pigeon and charred broccoli. The pigeon was really quite tough and the broccoli charts but dry and raw. The moules were delicious as was the leek risotto. Highly recommend
We booked lunch on a grey November day. This was my first visit to the Kitchen. It is set in an old walled garden and they clearly take pride in growing as much for the table as they can. The garden (even in November) was delightful and the interior of the restaurant is shabby chic relaxed. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, I had a delicious soup, an artichoke risotto and a bottle of cider. All quite modest fare but it was beautifully cooked and served. Well done Kitchen Garden
A really unique place with a lovely ambience, attentive staff and delicious food..we will return!
Lovely ambiance: very efficient and polite staff. Interesting and limited menu which means everything is freshly cooked and served with a smile.
We s all Loved it
Very good! Potentially a little too busy though? Our table seemed a little squeezed in
Couldn’t fault a thing! Service was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. From the cocktail to the coffee, our experience of the sustainable approach to local food and drinks was the best that I have experienced. Seasonal food and locally sourced meat and ingredients was impressive. I will be returning and recommending to family and friends.
My wife had venison cottage pie which she thought was too bland in flavour; could have had a richer gravy. My main was perhaps a little lacking in quantity.
When booking (online) I was asked what was the occasion, and I replied birthday. I thought perhaps that a candle or something celebratory would have been provided, otherwise what is the point of asking the reason for visit.
However, the ambience and service was excellent.
We’re local and often call in for coffee or tea but decided to try PHKG a try for dinner on a Saturday night.
The menu is quite short but varied and the food was delicious. The service was the perfect balance of friendly but intrusive. Great wine list too.
Definitely one to recommend.
Lovely meal. Very attentive staff. We had a great lunch, thank you!
Great food, beautifully presented and it's great that ingredients come fresh from the kitchen garden where possible.
Staff were great, good food and service
Wonderful venue! We love this place....we even had our wedding reception here! As usual, the lunch for three of us was very good. My husband had a prawn starter which he said was excellent. I had ( unusual for me ) a beef burger. The bun was light and melted in the mouth, the beef was delicious and the bacon and cheese of a really good quality. My friend had a tender lamb shank and husband cod with mussels. We followed with pudding of sticky toffee and lemon posset....needless to say all very delicious.
Fabulous sunday roast and amazing place
Love the Pythouse,we are regulars and never disappointed.
A thoroughly welcome relief to the A303. A walk round the vegetables and then eating them. V restorative
We have been meaning to visit for months so there was always a danger that Pythouse would disappoint. Thankfully not! Beautiful setting and a fantastic room, artfully decorated with pumpkins for the autumn. The food was delicious especially the terrine but star of the show was the autumn cocktail!
This was our second visit to Pythouse inside of a week, having only just discovered it. On both occasions the food was great and the service excellent.
Pity the weather the second time didn't allow for a walk around the gardens.
A beautiful restaurant and garden, with amazing food. Everything is seasonal and fresh and it shows in the dishes. The staff were very professional and welcoming , service was quick during lunch. Will be back soon!
Lovely atmosphere. First time visiting an evening supper. Set menu but you can tell them if you allergic or don't eat something. Lovely cocktail and canapes. The main halibut and creamy mash was lovely although mash was cold . The vegetables were slightly uncooked and abit to salty. Pudding of figs and honey with mascarpone was delious overall would recommend and would return
Scallops starter was delicious l!
Went a little downhill from there.
Maybe because we booked for 2:30?
We had the smoked salmon with potatoes and celeriac & apple salad.
Too much sauce / butter smothered the potatoes and parts of fish which made it inedible. I mentioned this as I hadn’t eaten it but no response tbh. Side order of charred sweet corn was not crisp as it should be but mushy?
It was all we hoped for refreshing ,modern and very good unusual food
Beautiful food in a stunning secluded setting. Sadly service was a little slow & was told chips came with the fish cakes & therefore not necessary to order extra. But when the fish cakes came there where no chips!! We had to ask for them & my husband had already eaten one of his fish cakes before they arrived!
Pythouse is a bit of a hidden gem which has its attraction however it doesn’t help when you are trying to find it & the satnav doesn’t help much.
It would be worthwhile to have signage out on the country roads
Amazing meal. Very good service. Fab location. lucky to have increible weather that day. I took my daughter and 21month old grand daughter here as a treat to remember and reflect upon my recently departed mum. We made some great memories and had a really fantsatic time. I adore this place and the service is very good indeeed. Highly recommend this venue.
First visit. Lovely setting. Table booked for 8 but only laid for 7. Food excellent but service very slow. Quite quick when asked for the bill. Loos need upgrading...........1 They were awful and obviously not cleaned regularly!
Perfect stop for a Client lunch
On a surprisingly sunny day in September it was a real pleasure to sit out in the garden and eat good quality food with a nice glass of wine. It really is a beautiful place and the outdoor cooking added something else to make it very special. We will make sure we spend more time there from now on!
A lovely setting for a special reunion and we enjoyed a walk round the impressive garden beforehand. The site and smell of the barbecue on the way in had our mouths watering! All the staff were polite and welcoming and the food certainly did not disappoint! We will be back!
Another fabulous luncheon at Pythouse Kitchen Garden. The food was sublime as always and it’s so lovely to follow with a walk around the amazing gardens. Looking forward to our next visit.
Such a great place for lunch. Food fantastic and beautifully presented. We will be back.
Excellent food and ambiance.. Sadly service was disappointing. I believe they had been let down by a member of staff.
Was a beautiful setting and very unique decor. However we waited an hour and 20 minutes for our main course, when it did arrive it was cold and had to be sent back. The waiting staff were very apologetic and took money off our bill. I would still visit again in the hope of a better experience as it is a lovely venue.
We were generally pleased with our first visit and enjoyed the ambience of a country kitchen. Very good service, customer care and a wide ranging menu. The downside was that three of us changed our preferred main course as the beef was apparently a little tough following an observation from another guest. My wife changed her choice to the chicken choice but found the chicken breast somewhat dry. I had the pork belly, which was outstanding!
Our two lady guests were not taken by the trip to the ladies room a) with little lighting along the route (the same for the trip back to the car on departure) and b) not the best of facilities in our travels. Not sure how this would work min winter.
However, we will return again. Thank you to the very nice and caring lady who looked after our table.
This is our second time dining at the garden and we will be back again! The food is fresh and nicely cooked and good portions too! We have eaten inside twice but the outside dining looks great for a larger party or family. Our only small complaint was we had to wait quite a long time for our puddings as you were very busy, plus the mozzarella wasn’t on the starter but arrived later with an apology!
Lovely meal in beautiful setting. Have been many times before and will go again!
I like very much that you are dog friendly and eating in the marquee was excellent with my puppy.
The waiter was charming helpful and friendly but the service was a little slow. There seemed to be a long wait between courses.
Lovely setting. Some of the chairs are very uncomfortable and I had to swap mine. One of our puddings was disappointing
My husband and I took our 6 year old granddaughter and elderly mother for lunch on Monday. The food seemed to all be smoked, even the salad dressing- just too much. My granddaughter and I are vegetarian and not fond of the the oft offered goats cheese, so had limited options. The service was very poor, not enough team on, and all very distracted, we had to ask for everything at least 4 times, even simple things like bread or water. It was unbearably hot inside, and we were kindly allowed to move outside and have our desserts- which took 45 minutes to come, but were excellent. The location is idyllic and as keen veg growers, we all loved the concept of cooking what’s ready in the garden. My husband and I will certainly come again, knowing what to expect food wise, and hopefully the service will be less chaotic.
