Quay Bar and Brasserie at the Lodge
Lovely place & excellent food & service. Very friendly staff
The bar was particularly cold. People were sitting with the coats on. The fire was poor and the radiators were off which was a pity because it is lovely. I was so uncomfortable we had to go back to our room to enjoy the wine.
Really lovely meal and staff were so helpful. Thank you
we had very high expectations but were very disappointed. The service was the worst I have ever experienced, often ignored by staff. We waited 90 minutes before our drinks even arrived, we only got them as we had to ask. We waited even longer for our starters, two bowls of SOUP....which should not take that long. We weren’t given any bread either despite them saying they would bring them straight down. The soup was extremely tasteless and bland, very disappointing for the length of time we had to wait for it. Our mains weren’t much better, the chicken was over cooked and burnt in parts and we had to ask for our sides. We weren’t even asked if we wanted anything else such as desert/tea or coffee. Several people had similar issues and complaints as we ate. The whole experience was uncomfortable and we would have walked out before the starters even arrived had we not been staying the night. The excuses used were put down to a wedding taking place but with a venue of this calibre they should be used to looking after a small amount of people in a dining room. We then had to walk out and ask for the bill and nobody asked if everything was ok. We felt no point in complaining as several others had and nothing was done for them. The actual rooms and greeting we received when checking in were excellent and all of the staff were very friendly outside of the dining. Our only reason for staying the night at the lodge was to see what it would be like as a possible wedding venue. The dining experience alone has made up our mind for us and we would not return.
I gladly give the Quay Bar and restaurant the highest recommendation. It is a beautiful location for an enjoyable evening. The food was divine, portion sizes were perfect and the speed at which the food was served was timed well. The staff were very professional, yet friendly. I'm very much looking forward to a return visit
Hotel was CLOSED when we arrived. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE. YOUR SO CALLED SERVICE IS A DISGRACE. I WAS EMBARRASSED AND ANNOYED IN FRONT OF MY GUESTS. Will be making sure nobody I know EVER uses Opentable.
Took 3 friends from overseas to dinner. Loved the ambience and the views. Staff were attentive and friendly and made us all very welcome. Unfortunately one of our meals (the beef burger) was very poor, the meat tough. I should have complained but were unwilling to spoil the mood. In spite of this I will return.
We really enjoyed our opportunity to escape from modernity and the pace/ noise of a busy commercial environment to relax over the perfect light evening meal in those gorgeous traditional settings which we would highly recommend to all our friends and associates!
Stunning location with very friendly professional staff - just a pity about the food. If you are going to charge €18 for a sandwich it needs to be a good one. What we got was very mediocre. We ordered 2 club sandwiches which came out as plain white sliced pan toasted with some dry bacon and chicken - the menu said a choice of chips or salad but we were not given an option. Disappointing but the location made up for it
Seafood platter at 29 euro was a little over priced as there were only two oysters and one langoustine on the plate. It also was not served with salad or bread. A side of skinny fries was an additional 4 euro.
We booked our table one week in advance and while it had a nice aspect overlooking the lake, the view was continuously blocked by cars. In addition, the table was adjacent to an opening into the main hallway and there was a cold draught from the main entrance to The Lodge which was very uncomfortable.
The menu was not interesting and the food was at best ordinary.
The meal was very overpriced and the best bit of the lunch was the view. In terms of food or value I would not recommend this venue
The food was not good to begin with, but add in the ridiculous upcharge for eating in the hotel and it made it that much worse.
The Lodge is a special place for an occasion, generating that good feeling factor.
Attention to detail was only surpassed by the mouthwatering fresh fish I enjoyed on Thursday at Quay Bar.
Staff were pleasant and very customer focused, happy to respond to our questions about Ashford Castle.
We recently stayed there with our 4 month old baby, I must say everything was perfect except unfortunately the food. It was the perfect atmosphere for valentines, ambiance was amazing with the soft music, we could have sat and chatted all night! We got a very spacious table with plenty of room for the buggy and the staff were brilliant, friendly and so helpful.
Unfortunately to our surprise the food was not great! My partner had the bacon and pudding salad and both were very over cooked and rock hard, he enjoyed his burger but the chips were very overdone and tasted of bad oil! My lamb was slightly over cooked and mashed potato was cold, they did bring me fresh mash but at the time didn’t want to complain as everything else was so good and in the end we really enjoyed the evening!
Just a few twigs of the menu and you have a perfect evening! We were very surprised as the lodge is a 4 star we were expecting amazing food.
Aside from that we will definitely be back as it didn’t effect our overall experience and thorough enjoyed our night away!
Thank you very much,
Sarah, Danny and Baby Fionn
Got a deal on site for weekend special for myself and my husband for B and B and evening meal in the quay bar.
Absolutely fabulous food. The staff were amazing and I can't remember his name but one young waiter with a quiff in his hair was so into of his work. I highly recommend the quay bar. We will definitely be back. Thank you to all the staff you are all amazing.
Went for a friend's get together... Great weekend, good location, staff were great, good value, fantastic location
We ordered the fish and chips and the chicken Kiev. Both were extremely bland and forgettable. At least the chips were passable I suppose. I'd advise giving this restaurant a miss.
Lovely place for a special meal, our hist was very friendly and engaging, food was excellent.
Always great, reliable, fabulous setting, looking forward to new menu
Something different and the tapas sized portions were plenty. Lovely ambiance. Had a voucher from B&B which made for a good deal. I'd advise booking ahead as we saw several people turned away as it was a cold, wet, miserable Friday evening.
While I love this venue & location, I feel menu is not in keeping with tone of the overall offering. Sausage rolls, chips & chicken drumsticks for a special lunch -extremely overpriced & only alright to eat. A pity as its such a nice place to be & staff were very pleasant.
Good food in pleasent surroundings. Very good service.
The menu here is quirky and different and the setting of the bar is spectacular overlooking the lake. This was my second visit in recent times and we had the same waitress and she was fantastic-helpful and friendly. A real treat for lunch
just love love this place one of our favourite places to stay and dine staff are wonderful and the lodge gas a wonderful athmospere!
We were disappointed with the seating in a hallway with people checking in to rooms passing etc. It felt soulless. We miss the former Lisloughrey style bar offering.
