It was loud but everything else was good. I ordered a side which was forgotten.
Great ambience and service. Food tasty and nicely presented. However, my spatchcock chicken main was tiny and didn't fill me up - there were only a few small mouthfuls of meat on the bird which was a poussin, not a chicken. Also odd that the beer was served in half pint glasses which meant that my husband had to ask for two refills during his meal which was irritating. Puddings good and my daughters especially liked the ice cream. However, the sticky toffee pudding was meant to come with banana ice cream and even though we arrived for lunch at 12.00 when the restaurant opened, we were told when we ordered the puddings that they had run out of banana ice cream. Service excellent. Waiter friendly and helpful and checked on ingredients due to allergies.
My wife and I visited the Quod recently on a weekend to Oxford, and I'd read the reviews about the restaurant beforehand. We're really glad we came and ate at the restaurant. The food was gorgeous, the waiting staff were very attentive from the start, and thankfully left a long enough gap between courses, for us to enjoy the food throughout the evening.
If I was to make any kind of a negative remark, it would be regarding two small issues during the evening:
1) The tables against one way were WAY too close. In order for my wife to reach her seat again the back wall, I had to move the table across to give her some room to manoeuvre. Unfortunately, there was not a lot of room in which to move the tables, so she really had to squeeze through (with many apologies to those sitting either side of us!)
2) The noise level was almost at the level of not being able to hold a conversation. Given that this was a post-valentine weekend away/meal, we would have loved to have been able to chat more, but the volume level was really too much to hold a decent conversation. The evening was punctuated with a few "Sorry, what was that". I guess that's the price to be paid for cramming so many people in to a small space.
That said, the food was lovely, and those two points above didn't marr the evening too much.
Good food service a bit slow at times but they were very busy. Restaurant was loud wth chatter and sometimes it was hard to hear people in our group.
Fantastic location in the centre of Oxford with great food with a varied menu. Impeccable service and extremely helpful...cannot fault
I would have liked to have had a better experience, as I booked ahead from Australia and was really looking forward to it, unfortunately I was underwhelmed. We stayed st the Old Bank, breakfast service was also extremely poor, it was not busy and although we ordered in a timely manner, we waited approximately 50 minutes for our eggs! In terms of suggesting to friends, I would on the premis of having been to the restaurant, but would also explain that our experience was disappointing.
Lovely food and fantastic service. Really good pianist but couldn't hear him as it was very noisy. Book tablenear piano tohear. . Otherwise will definitely come again
Excellent menu with lots of choice. We sat in the garden for lunch which was beautiful. Service was good and the food was delicious.
Wonderful evening, really lovely waitress who was very relaxed about our staying quite a while despite it being Valentine's day. The food was great.
The only thing I would say was that we were quite close to the piano and singer which sometimes made conversation difficult!
An excellent lunch-time meeting place: ambiance, food and service first rate.
Lovely lunch - we had booked a table and arrived early. We had to complain about the table we were initially given as it was directly under the coat stand. We were told our booked table wasn't ready and to wait at the bar. No drinks offered. Table was then available after around 10 mins. Good food, great service. Will definitely return.
There were 11 of us for my friends hen
Night. Quod was very busy, but we still received excellent service. The food was delicious too
Pigeon starter was superb as was the Lamb Dopiaza which was the nest Indian dish ive had in ages. Service was excellent despite it being very busy. Will definitely return.
Saturday night dinner, really busy but great atmosphere& vg service. Thoroughly enjoyed our food too. Would recommend& definitely return.
Me and my wife attended for our Anniversary. Food was amazing and so was the service. Definitely recommend it and will return in the future.
I have always found this restaurant to be a good combination of a lively atmosphere and good food. Service has always been excellent. On this last visit one of our party needed especially quick service and this was managed very efficiently.
We both enjoyed our meal, I had the Carrot & Turmeric soup with lovely crusty bread followed by the Baby spatchcock chicken. My partner had the Pidgeon & Venison, followed by Pineapple Pavlova & a very good cheese board. We did think the wine was a bit pricey at £40 a bottle. The only other thing was it was very noisy but obviously that can't be helped in a busy restaurant.
We were a party of six at Quod for dinner celebrating a birthday. Had a great evening, the welcome was good, our waitress was fabulous, food good, live pianist great, would highly recommend and would definitely return.
The noise level was so loud as to be unpleasant in the extreme. I could hardly wait to escape from the restaurant and I shall certainly never return. The service was good and the food acceptable but nothing could possibly make up for the fact that I could not hear a word which was spoken to me and had to shout to be heard by my friends.
Good choice of cocktails & special dishes
Service good and accommodating to late arrival of one member of the party.
Asked the venue to write happy birthday on the desert plate as it was my best friends 21st birthday!
We both ordered deserts and hers came out with no happy birthday message on which was very disappointing as I originally asked if the birthday girl could have a drink on the house as it was a special birthday and was advised no because they do not do such things however they would happily put a message on the desert plate I was advised that the Request had been added to the booking but the restaurant failed to make the special request.
The atmosphere was very loud and we were plonked in the middle of two large groups (hardly special) couldn’t even hear my friend talking to me.
Food was lovely but couldn’t help but feel embarrassed as I would have bought her a cake or special banner/balloon to make her birthday special.
Probably won’t return as it was very loud and would want my experience to be the best possible.
Central city location, late lunch on Saturday afternoon, busy with good atmosphere. Italian theme to the menu, we had starters, main course, 500 ml carafe wine and coffees. Oysters, Confit Duck and Sea Bream very good. Good service, cost £94 for two including 12.5% optional service charge.
We enjoyed a super meal with attentive service. A good fun evening with family and friends.
Good food and drink
On a cold day n Oxford walked into a warm friendly very genuine place too be service impeccable from the door too the table too the food and the thank you when we left. P Jackson
Nice Relaxed atmosphere but efficient attentive staff - will definitely go again
The menu was varied and interesting, however the cod was not really hot enough and a bit undercooked for my liking. The atmosphere is great and will definitely be back.
Overall a good & atmospheric experience. Went on a Friday night & restaurant was about 60% full. Service was impeccable, polite and informative. I ordered the Avacado Vinegrette for starter which was excellent, with just the right amount of dressing This was followed by Lamb Rogan Josh which I was initially concerned may not be typically authentic - however the lamb was cooked perfectly & the sauce/rice was great. My Wife hadthe Artichoke soup which again was fantastic. The only drawback was her main dish - the crispy chicken thigh salad. It wasn't crispy and there was way too much mayonnaise in the salad leaves for her to eat too much. The venue looks great, has a nice buzz about it & I would certainly recommend it. I think it needs to add a few extra dishes to give a better choice of mains though.
Always enjoy my times at Quod and particulalry enjoy the piano evenings, lovely intimate and friendly ambience, good food, excellent service
We had a very attentive waitress, we had minutes to spare to order cocktails within the Happy hour time frame and she made sure they were ordered in time. She also showed our pregnant friend the Mocktail list off her own back and water was topped up throughout the meal. Very friendly atmosphere and a great selection of food.
Lovely atmosphere, service was great and the Afternoon Tea was delicious!
The service was very slow and poor on a Saturday - I think they simply did not have enough staff. They also made a mistake which delayed one of our meals considerably.
Although most of our party enjoyed our food, it didn't seem worth the price tag as the chicken salad had a lot of gristle & the terrine starter came with a sickly sweet jam.
Lovely venue for a date night - thanks!
Lovely place. The menu is short and has very well-cooked delicious things. The wine list is imaginative and not unreasonable. The service is delightful. It can be noisy if very full, but in general it is fine. There is a lovely ambiance.
A lovely venue and great overall experience. We ordered starters and main courses however are pleased to say the portion sizes were ample and we had not room for desert.
The staff were attentive and helpful and the meal was excellent, the best we have had in Oxford for some time.
Great restaurant only negative was no alcohol free specialist drinks.
Excellent starters and mains. Bread and butter pudding not simple enough. Unnecessary chocolate content (not mentioned in menu). Last tome had it before Xmas was much better.
Excellent service; good food and a great buzzy ambience. A delight.
Good service, a little empty but it was Tuesday lunchtime.
Well presented and well seasoned and cooked food.
QUOD is my favourite restaurant in Oxford. The location is good. The food is excellent and original. The service is friendly and informal. I enjoy sketching the variety of diners. There is something about the design of the room that is pleasant and relaxing (My wife and I were trying to analyse what it is) I think it has a cosmopolitan, possibly Paris atmosphere - Ambience. In all, a lovely place to spend and hour or two in Oxford. The garden is nice too
Best wishes Stephen Hurst
