We were most disappointed. Food was bland to be honest. Glasses were smeary on the table and after initially being bombarded with questions we were then left waiting to order wine. The waiter cleared three plates of half eaten food and never asked if everything had been ok. The Gloucester cheese pie was white sauce with some root vegetables in there - no suggestion of cheese or any seasoning. The cheese cake was a huge portion of gelatinous gloop. The venue is lovely and the piano music was delightful for Sunday night dining. Toilets were excellent. Our greeting at the door was perfect and we were given a choice of table. The girl who served our meals was very friendly. I really wanted this to be fabulous as our visitor was from Australia and a food lover.

Absolutely crowded on a Saturday at 7.15, but a brilliant welcome nevertheless and extremely attentive and prompt service. Food excellent (particularly the Daurade Royale with fennel from the blackboard). Also the scallop and prawn gratin. A good evening.

Great atmosphere,
Very classy decorated inside with a warm cosy feel.
Service very good.
The food menu was a little limited, but still of good quality.
Would be nice to see a few more fish dishes and may be some more vegetables such as fennel and similar vegetables.

Very busy (a couple of Christmas parties in), so waited a little for salad and desserts to arrive, but service was charming and friendly. Food was delicious! Quite a high noise level. Very buzzy, but maybe not the best for those with hearing difficulties.

We have been to this restaurant many times, being our first choice in Oxford. The last two visits were both disappointing compared to all previous visits. A shame as both food and service standards appear to have gone downhill. Attention to detail seems to have left the building.

Great location but very average menu! Nothing imaginative on offer standard choices, the menu needs some attention to make the food shine like the gorgeous fairy lights that bring a theatrical and magical atmosphere to the place! Great atmosphere on a Saturday night!

This meal was a gift from my step-son. Just everything was delicious and well presented. The staff were very attentive and polite. We had a choice from the Lunch menu and there was plenty to cater for all tastes. There was just one comment. We were asked if we wanted bread. Thr delicious bread came warmed together with butter but there were no plates to put the bread on!

The building is iconic and stunningly gorgeous, with its huge picture windows how prettily flanked by bare branches festooned with twinkly lights. The restaurant is always busy at the weekend, even if you're eating at 5.45 - and it can get quite noisy. There are seats at the extremely glamorous bar if you need to wait for your table, where you can sample the excellent cocktails and some yummy bar snacks. My lamb rogan josh was delicious and wonderfully moist and tender; my companions had pizza (excellent) and fillet steak (outstanding). The service was pretty perfect. Three dinners came to about £120, which is not terrible. It's a great experience if you have the energy for shouting - otherwise go in the week when it's quiet!

Have been to the Quod several times and have always been satisfied. This visit although overall very pleasant let us down on two fronts. A while after we'd ordered the waiter told us they had a large party in and our order would be prepared after theirs. We were a party of 6 and we'd booked 2months in advance. Even if the seating accommodates all of their bookings the workload in the kitchen should be factored in. Secondly 2 of us ordered sea bass fillet from the set menu but were served with whole trout. When this was pointed out they were very apologetic and only charged for the set meal. I think this was simply a waiter's error. The waiting staff were very pleasant.

We had the set course lunch menu and the star of the show for us was the soup and bread. First class. I had the lamb but it was a bit dry in places and quite fatty. A friend has the Sea Bass and said it was very good as was my husband's steak and chips. The lamb dish needed something to detract from the fatty meat but otherwise it was okay, however I would not order it again. Good value lunch although drinks quite expensive.

Sunday night with 11 people (in Oxford generally a large group = stressful restaurant experience). One or two flustered waiters - they did a fair job but just too busy. Hard to get attention and quite stressed/rushed tense service. Very nice when they had time.

Fab from the moment we entered the place. The table was ready spot on time and we had some great banter with the guy at the door. Food was exceptionally good and served promptly despite the fact that the place was heaving with customers. It had a great vibe and I will definitely be back there on my next visit to Oxford.

Our favourite eating place in Oxford. No-nonsense menu which does exactly what it says on the tin. Good value for money and in the most fabulous setting - both inside and outside the restaurant. The staff are excellent and there is nothing to dislike in our view. We would not eat anywhere else now on our trips to Oxford, which are frequent.

Very smooth operation. Can't fault the service, nor probably the food - it was just totally forgettable. A perfect background for doing something else - conversation, meeting, anything really. Priced high enough to feel reassured, but not quite high enough to feel totally fleeced - perfect for an expense account. Just don't bother going for a good meal.

Style over substance! Great ambience and surroundings but food was average and staff appeared overworked and stressed. My main course was handed to me over the top of my friend's head with a warning that the plate was "very hot" - good job I didn't drop it on my friend then! I think the waitress should have come round to my side of the table and put it in front of me. Bream was well-cooked but very plain - couldn't taste the anchovy/chill butter and my friends' fishcakes were dry and stodgy. However, my other friend enjoyed the rabbit with pancetta. If the same detail that is paid to the decor and surroundings was paid to the food, this would be a fantastic venue - but based on our experince last saturday evening, if we were to return to Oxford, we would eat elsewhere.

We had a fabulous evening at Quod. I had booked the table some time ago as we were going to visit our daughter who we hadn't seen for a few weeks. On arrival, the restaurant was packed, very noisy and we were seated at a table near the bar. We had a large, exuberant table seated behind us and we couldn't hear each other across the table, my daughter's chair also kept being jostled by people trying to squeeze through. I asked if we could be moved. Despite it being very busy we were told that another table had ordered coffee and if we could wait a few minutes they would move us. After less than a 5 minute wait we were moved to a quieter table where we could chat away quite happily. Excellent service, all with a happy smile. We have been to Quod a few times now and although a little expensive, its worth every penny.

Overall, I liked the restaurant. The service was quick and accurate, the staff was friendly.
The only downside was that the bottle of Argentinian Malbec I had was priced for £39, but tasted like a bottle of £7 sold at Tesco. Not only this, but the whole range of wine was priced up to 3.5 to 4 times the retail prices that were marked up too high.

Atmosphere was good - fun, lively, buzzy. Live pianist did a great job. Food was disappointing - pear, walnut and stilton salad was sadly bereft of pear and walnut, with too many leaves and a bland dressing. My husband had the fillet of beef with bone marrow and asked for it medium rare but it came medium to well done and was dry. His hollandaise sauce was thin and lacked flavour. My rabbit dish was good though. Service was a bit erratic. The wine list was expensive and a bit uninventive. A good place for a fun dinner with friends if you want decent food but overall it was overpriced.

We come to Quod quite regularly as we usually like the food and the atmosphere. This time was a pre-concert dinner. Main courses were very good, the rabbit was recommended and didn't disappoint but was too big a portion. My partner had the spatch-cock chicken that she has enjoyed on previous occasions. The spicy sauce was very thin this time however. The service was very friendly BUT: having asked the member of staff which red wine she would recommend if I liked a Rioja or Tempranillo, she said she would know which one I would like. She didn't show it to us on the wine list, and we were in a bit of a rush so we didn't check. We nearly fell off our chairs however when the bill came and the red wine (one glass!) was £14!! I would definitely not have chosen this wine at this price however nice it was! We felt all the staff wanted was selling us the most expensive wine on the list. Not the service that we think is fair. We will definitely be more careful next time. Puddings were ok, nothing really special and not as good as the main courses. We will probably wait a little before we visit again ...

This restaurant was recommended to me by my family, who said it was excellent food and a lovely night out. When I visited with my boyfriend, it was exactly that! The food was fabulous, some of the best I've eaten in a restaurant. The selection wasn't too wide, but there was a range of different dishes within that, and a couple of dishes that meant you could try something new! I had the scallop, prawn and mushroom gratin which was superb and the 8oz lamb leg steak from the specials menu which was very tasty! The drinks were brilliant, all mixed well and in the cocktails, the alcohol wasn't overpowering which is lovely.
Overall, a great place for a date, adult family meal or even a business meal. I would definitely recommend to friends!
