What an amazing treat to find an Indian restaurant with a twist on the norm. The usual traditional curries are served but they also had some very interesting dishes which are simply amazing. If you want an Indian meal with a difference order from the Rajpoot own designed dishes they are fantastic. We had friends down from Hertfordshire for the weekend and decided to go to the Rajpoot, having never been there before. The initial greeting was amazing, we were shown to a welcome lounge with a bar and seating so that we weren’t standing around in the restaurant with the diners. They took our name and then showed us to our prebooked table. Everyone’s food was simple gorgeous and we can’t wait to go there again. I have read some of the comments on trip advisor about the poor service, and I must say we experienced none of it. The staff were very busy as the restaurant was packed, but the staff were still polite and attentive. I think perhaps one gets out of life what one puts in and if you interact and compliment the staff they will interact back with you and smile and laugh. Thanks to the chefs for some simply wonderful food, and we will be back.
Sat down late.. Very noisy... long wait for meal.... not impressed...
Can’t fault it . We had a family get together with kids 12 altogether. One with a shellfish allergy which they catered for with no problem. Highly recommended.
First time visit and will not be the last.
Simply outstanding is the verdict!
The Food is amazing, drinks great, and staff were very friendly & welcoming!
I will never go elsewhere now. Will come back for many future visits.
We visited this restaurant to have a farewell meal before our daughter returned to Uni in Liverpool. My wife have visited on numerous occasions but not with our daughters before.
As always the food was excellent but it would be fair to say the service was well under par. The early and mid evening menu offers were not displayed on the menu or the table on arrival and the waiters were very blunt and may I add quite male chauvinistic in their dealings with my female guests. The usual jovial Manager did did not seem to be present during the evening and there seemed to be a lack of direction and leadership. This became evident in the confusion over the price of a pint of cider being charged to another table which if my memory serves me correct, was being offered at £8 a pint!
Amazing food, great service
First time coming here
Best curry I’ve ever had
Amazing food and service - be going here for a while and can never fault anything
I rang the restaurant to say I’d be 15mins late and duly turned up as said. There was a scrum as I arrived and when it was my turn to explain I had a booking - made some days earlier - I was told to wait.
Lots of others in the same position. It appears booking at this restaurant makes no difference... just turn up and join the chaos!
A shame since it ruined our otherwise wonderful day and when the food eventually turned up it was good.
If you're looking for high quality Indian food in Dorchester, then this is THE PLACE to visit.
Great Indian restaurant serving traditional and contemporary dishes. A little pricey, but worth it for quality food and dining experience.
Not the venue for post pub night out - go for a proper meal and have a drink afterwards in ‘Spoons’ down the road!
Main criticism- beer is overpriced and the staff are over keen to sell you more (see above!).
Excellent food as always - service very slow but staff aware of this and very apologetic.
The vegetarian curry was completely lacking flavour and was therefore very disappointing but the rest of us he food was good
I am not a great curry eater, but this must be, or very close to, the very best Indian meal I have ever had. The waiter/chef were incredibly helpful in producing a dish for one of our party who had quite difficult dietry requirements. The menu was imaginative and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the Rajpoot is a long way away from our home - otherwise we would certainly be going again! Excellent.
Food overpriced and poor quality. Shank of lamb tough as hell, couldn’t get meat off bone!
Bottles of beer outrageously expensive.
Recommend by our B&B and we’ll worth the visit. Lovely service and delicious fresh food. This is not about grease and generic spice - this is beautiful food and layers of flavour.
Tasty food, best Indian in Dorchester. A bit pricey but good portion sizes.
Great menu and atmosphere..... lovely service. Slightly pricey but nevertheless, it was worth it!
Restaurant recently changed hands; needs time to settle down again. Very noisy - big groups vs couples in confined area always difficult - had to change tables half way through meal. Were wrongly billed, as the till system was new. Didn't really work for us.
I had promised my sister I would take her to this restaurant when next she visited Dorset. She chose the halibut as the main meal and was very impressed. She does not eat chicken or red meat, but mentioned there was a wide choice for vegetarians. I have eaten at Rajpoot a few times and have always had a very pleasant experience, both with the food and the service.
Only two words needed ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC, but the review system requires more words. Can highly recommend this restaurant it ticks all the boxes, authentic quality dishes, the friendly professional staff. The only criticism we have is that it's not on our doorstep as we would be booking a table every week.
Went here whilst on holiday with my wife, who had the Chicken Tikka and saffron rice, which I saw and had to share with her and was just gorgeous and I had the equally delicious Lamb and coconut curry with saffron rice. We both had the Onion pakoras to start and my wife had Salted Caramel Icecream with Pomegranate jus and I had the Chocolate melt in the middle fudge pudding to finish. Sorry, we never took photos of the starter and desserts as we had started them before we remembered LOL!!! Your staff are, AMAZING please thank them for enriching our very first holiday to Dorchester. And needless to say, the food was TOP class. We will be back in September and plan to dine at your restaurant on the first night of our stay. In summary !!! A superb dining experience.
They say they serve fine Indian cuisine, but it's better than that. The food is amazing with tastes that you never thought would work together. You must try the pan seared duck breast in a sweet and sour sauce, unbelievable!! The traditional curries are also full of taste, everyone left feeling uncomfortable and happy.
Great all round
Good meal and look and feel to the restaurant. The waiters rushed us a little we wanted to take our time. One waiters was very good, friendly and helpful.
Lovely restaurant and have been a few times and had a lovely meal.
Last time we went it was very busy and loud. Felt manic and the staff were rushing around and didn’t offer us the dessert menu.
Lovely meal for a birthday, food excellent only downside was we were all on one long table, so couldn’t chat to everyone, but that isn’t the restaurants fault as it’s hard to fit a large group in
We have always enjoyed our meals at this restaurant and this time was no exception.
Food and ambiance were up to their usual high standard and staff, warm and appropriately attentive.
ive been using this restaurant for over 30 years and this was the first time I left feeling disappointed . the starter was fine as was the service but our main meals arrived in what looked like huge pasta bowls ,which were cold and no other dishes or plates . That left my curry swimming in what looked like soup . When I added the rice it just disappeared to the bottom of the bowl never to be seen again. The curry tasted nice but I ended up just fishing for bits of chicken until there was just the curry soup left. Having a curry is all about the experience and the anticipation of the arrival of all the little dishes and red hot plates but for some reason the Rajpoot have decided not to do that anymore which is a real shame. I will go back because the food is lovely and always has been..but I won't go until the presentation changes.
Great food at excellent price. Very good value. Will definitely go again.
We were not made welcome. The table for two reallly too small. The starters were only warm. The korma and the chicken tikka was so sweet it was inedible. The service was surly! Really looking forward to this meal and were so dissapointed!
Quality food in a vibrant atmosphere. The only place to be in Dorchester
This is by FAR the best Indian Restaurant in the local area. The food is simply stunning, always. Other places I describe as 'curry houses', the Rajpoot is an 'Indian Restaurant'.
As ever a popular venue, great ambience and good food. Okra dish delicious best I’ve tasted but sadly the Masala although tasty was extremely sweet to the point I had to abandon half a portion a real shame. My husband would definitely recommend the lamb shank. Generally we would prefer smaller portions so we could try a greater selection as ordering 3 sides with 2 mains (a usual order elsewhere) was way too much and an undesirable waste of good food.
Lovely food although can get a little loud . Found it a little cold at first
Attentive staff. Great food, presented well. Good atmosphere. Would recommend.
Excellent service and great quality food that is a little different to most Indian restaurants.
Fairly busy but quiet enough for conversation. Lovely upmarket spicy food at reasonable prices.
Very good food, service and ambience. Would definitely recommend.
Great meal with family, fantastic ambiance and the food was amazing. Very authentic cuisine with great portion sizes and the best onion salad we've tasted.
Enjoyable meal. Quite expensive but good quality would recommend.
Contemporary Indian restaurant. Food is always exceptional. Limited menu, but all delicious. Staff are dressed in authentic costume which adds to the ambience of this restaurant. Would thoroughly recommend.
