Red Dog Saloon Southampton
Red Dog Saloon is an Austin, TX Barbecue restaurant, serving 18-hour roast ribs, brisket, aged chuck steak burgers and much more, all best enjoyed with tasty cocktails or milkshakes.
Barbecue grew up in the South of the USA where cooks learned to slow roast cuts of meat over fire pits to make them tender. Exposure to the smoke of the smoldering wood added a distinctive smoky and juicy taste to the meat. Our award-winning smokers have been imported from the USA and are built to recreate the cooking process of those original fire pits. We use the traditional American woods of hickory and mesquite to give a full smoke flavor, and the meat stays in the smoker for up to 18 hours.
espresso bbq, house pickles, onions

Good food, friendly/quick service and not bad price.
Friendly staff and good food in a welcoming atmosphere.
A nice and cozy place to grab a pitcher and chill!
The service was absolutely terrible, borderline rude. We had to ask to be served when our server had ignored us for 10-15 minutes, whilst taking orders from several tables who were sat after us. There was no apology and less than friendly attitude. We were told that we would have to pay straight away, we did this, but it is a real nuisance to then order anything else, and food venues like this are just not set up to take immediate payment. There was also a 'discretionary' service charge added to the bill which is totally inappropriate seeing as we had yet to receive much service. No one checked how the food was and the table was left uncleared for a long time. Whilst i understand that things have been tough for the industry, there is no excuse for this level of poor service, and it will not go un noticed by future guests i am sure. I will not be returning to a venue i used to visit often.
Gorgeous food!!! Great service! We will be back!!!
Really enjoyed coming here. The food was great and the service was amazing. All the staff were very accommodating and lovely!
The waitresses kept rushing our table to pay, when some people were still eating which is just rude.
Always enjoy eating here the food is delicious and quality!
Food was cold and awful, drinks late ans had to.pay before.we had even eaten.
Would not go back and DO NOT RECOMMNED
Our waiter was actually very rude r - we were first given a table which one side you were unable to get into as there was step blocking pulling the chair out. When we asked to move the waiter said to both sit one side which meant breaching 2m apart from the table next to us and started to argue about covid rules instead of just moving us considering the restaurant was empty with easily 9-10 tables free after much debate we were moved. I am usually quiet in these situations as I used to work in hospitality and have to deal with annoying customers but I feel it could have been much easier to move us as you could physically see the worry in my mum getting to close to people. Other thing which was really strange was were demanded to pay just after ordering not even before our food arrived - were not even given the choice to look at the bill just "cash or card, £40 pounds" and pushed the card machine in my face. The guy working on Tuesday 5th May in Southampton either needs to revaluate how he talks to customers or gets retrained.
Considering there was a storm so it was raining heavy and had strong wind. The staff put everyone right under the cover so although we had to eat outside because of restrictions we didn’t get wet or feel the wind at all.
Our waitress was amazing, food was incredible, we’re already thinking about going back haha!
It was a nice place. Where we were sitting the heating wasn’t working so it was very cold. I got the side salad it was drenched in ranch dressing which wasn’t ideal. There wasn’t many salad options which wasn’t ideal. For £4 per salad there is no value for money it was in a small ramekin. When I got home I had to eat again. But the brisket was delicious for me the food and speaking with the people with me they also felt the food was on the salty side. But the service was good and our server was polite and friendly
Nice food always love this place 😋 keep it up !
Me and my girlfriend have been coming to red dog for nearly 5 years now and we are never disappointed. We have always been treated extremely well and the food is always top notch. Cant fault the food, the venue or the staff. There’s a reason we’ve always ended up going back to red dog time and time again.
Food was good, large portions. The only issue we had was that we kept being rushed to place our order. The staff approached us 4-5 times in the first 15 minutes telling us we HAD to put in an order. Not sure if that is Covid related to try and minimize the length of stay at the restaurant but it was quite annoying. Once the food had arrived we were not rushed or asked to leave within any timeframe so it turned out ok.
Great meal, very large portions in some cases. Nachos were £7.50 and I personally wouldn't say you get your money's worth. Otherwise from that a great meal!
Unfortunately it was a cold and wet day,the food went cold with in seconds may be hot plates eould be an answer, but staff were very friendly.
We have been here many times pre covid which were 4/5* visits consistently but today was a terrible experience. Service was slow and poor, starters and mains were itemised separately on the menu and clearly ordered separately but came all together which we were then told was because of covid, ridiculous in itself but even if that is the case then let people know verbally at ordering or on the menu. Rounds of drinks took over 45 minutes (for 4 of us) to arrive each time and then were wrong or they had run out and then didn't ask everyone what replacement they wanted just assumed the first answer was on behalf of all - so no rioja was answered with oh any red is fine, but someone else had ordered a beer and they didn't tell him they didn't have that and just brought him a glass of the same red.. no common sense. I understand staff might be new but in that case train them and overstaff. You know you are going to be busy, there is no excuse to be running out of beverage at 3pm on a Saturday (the second Saturday opening after covid). Considering how few tables you had accessible (as it's outdoor only) I dread to think what it would be like at full capacity with indoors too. I don't think we'll be back sadly.
Order it as a take away because the service is terrible! Staff were all having a chat and left us stood waiting to be seated. Waiter then spilt a drink over one of us and laughed. Food took ages to come and looks nothing like the photos on insta! Good job it tasted okay (excluding the chips 🤮) otherwise I wouldn't have a paid.
Lovely food + cocktails and great service, was quite cold as the outdoor heaters were not working but otherwise really good
Great food as always. Reasonable priced, staff were attentive and food arrived quickly. Would recommend
Really enjoyed meal and drinks. Staff were great and attentive. Great service.
Miscommunication with the burger not realising you had to ask for toppings included. When the burger came out it was extremely salty and the chips were freezing cold. The sauces were basically like water
A little expensive but decent food and service. Happy to visit again
Good food but could have done with preparing for the outside dining slightly better - rooftop heaters not working and no other form of heating so food quickly went cold.
Could not fault the waitress she was very attentive. Obviously we had to sit outside but the heating was not working. I wanted decaff coffee but they do not have it so had to have a cold drink which didn't help. I was offered diluted normal coffee but didn't quite get that as it would still have caffeine in it. The burgers were quite cold but the fries were very hot. I think the fact they put fridge temperature gherkins and tomatoes into them it reduced the temperature. Also there is not salad dishes on the menu anymore which is such a shame as they were very good. Hopefully we will return when everywhere is open fully and we will have a better experience. Shame as its one of our favourite places to eat.
First dining experience ‘al fresco’ and was impressed with the set up. Felt nice, clean/safe and food was excellent.
Service was great, waiter was helpful and friendly.
Food all cold. Very greasy. Very expensive for what it was.
Having been several times previously I find the menu choice quite lacking nowadays. It seems to be all pushed towards the hot chicken and having the rib or brisket becomes very expensive. The food was lovely as always, however 4 pieces of chicken served on a tiny plate was a challenge as they kept falling off. The tasty sausage has been replaced with a morica sausage, and whilst nice, it’s very pricey for a few slices of half a sausage.
Good choice of burgers, but then adding sides becomes expensive again. Added to that a service charge of 10% it became an expensive dinner.
All in all, great quality food and service at a premium price.
The chicken wings were incredibly salty.
I thought the carnivore meat tray for minimum of 2 was exceptionally over priced (£25pp) - Bare Grills is much better value for money in comparison.
Generally ok but other places do it better.
Very good service and food. Would defiantly return.
Myself and my partner found that the food was far too deep fried and greasy
Food was great the atmosphere is amazing as usual we eat here quite regularly and it’s amazing every time! Highly recommended!!
Service was amazing, really quick and great food would really recommend.
No soft drinks on any form of printed menu.
Weirdly sat all customers in the same area by the windows with little space in between, when there was a basically the whole restaurant empty. Felt very uncomfortable so left.
Presentation of food and value for money I feel was poor . Customer service wasn’t great either
We were really looking forward to our visit but found the food a bit disappointing. Three of us had a burger with bacon and the bacon was so salty that you couldn’t taste anything else in the burger! Nice staff and lovely restaurant to sit in.
We had a table booked for 10am, to be told they weren't going to open until 10:30am, so it was a shambles from the start, the woman serving didn't know how to work the music, make a drink and also came out with a pathetic excuse about the manager takes longer to get to the restaurant so couldn't play music until he arrived as she doesn't know what playlist he likes, then when we try to order they didn't have any milk to make the shakes that are clearly advertised, at this point we knew it was going to be terrible! Then we ordered food, I took one bite into the brisket hash and hurt my mouth, there was a bone in it, no indication on the menu about potential bones, food wasn't even warm and this summed up how terrible the visit was, the server then got the hump because I stated I wasn't paying the service charge as it was an awful experience, so we sat in silence, couldn't have the drink advertised, chomped down on a bone and due to all this the bill was £24, and personally it was £24 more than it was worth, I will not be visiting again and I think it was ridiculous how bad the experience was, we were beyond disappointed and were offered no apology, no care about the bone, and the attitude change when I said I wasn't going to be paying the service charge summed up the whole experience! But I doubt this will be followed up.
Outstanding as always!!! The best burgers available on south coast!!!
A bit concerned ad there wasn't much separation between diners and all next to each other at front of restaurant. Not asked to scan nhs app..
