It was a warm and sunny day so we chose to sit outside in the garden. Tables were well spaced, it was lovely to have table service and it all felt very safe. The food was excellent.
Highly recommended, excellent service, great lunch - Covid secure felt very safe
We really appreciate the measures that you have put in place to allow customers to both feel very safe and above all valued with your incredibly friendly and well trained staff.
Good morning Paul, Thank you for taking the time to provide some lovely feedback. Our team go above and beyond for our guests and we're glad to see that you felt safe with us. Many thanks, Team Red Lion
Great garden, lovely food, good service. Recommend
Enjoyed our visit but besides a positive attitude to COVID 19 the sanitizer bottle was empty
Nice but expensive. Lovely building from the outside. Driven by tourism?
Delighted with the food and the service we received at the Red Lion! The Sunday roast was exceptional and the staff were very attentive. We were pleased to see their observance of COVID-19 precautions. Hope to go back soon.
Good afternoon, thank you so much for your extremely positive review and rating. We really take ensuring both our guests and team feel safe. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Many thanks Team Red Lion
Perfect location, lovely interiors and good food. Covid-restrictions were taken very seriously which is positive.
A very attractive in non run well at this difficult time. In a beautiful village and with really good food and service.
Staff so attentive and service amazing . Very organised and socially distanced. Really enjoyed the evening with my family .food good too !
Delicious food - soft shell crab starter was amazing! Service was friendly and efficient
staff were excellent. lovely late summer sun, we sat outside.
Food was OK, too many burgers on the menu, food was OK to good.
We had a lovely relaxed Birthday lunch with our family. We felt taken care of, and all Covid-19 guidelines were followed. Great customer service, varied menu and delicious food.
Great food , excellent service and the price was good as well
Thank you so much for your kind words. We are thrilled that you had a great time with us. We hope to see you again soon. Many thanks Team Red Lion
The meal was wonderful. We had delicious soup (broccoli) and a brilliant vegan 'fish and chips' (made with silken tofu wrapped in nori with samphire, then battered). It was the best substitute we've ever had! Service was friendly and efficient. Only negative was the wait for and then faff of individually signing into Track and Trace with phones (largely assumed) with the inevitable dodgy signal.
Amazing Birthday lunch for my sister, the food is perfect and the staff are so hard working and dedicated, hats off to them they are a true credit to this establishment.
Good morning Hayley, Thank you so much for your kind words. We are thrilled that you had an amazing time and we're proud to have such hard working team. We hope to see you again soon. Team Red Lion
A great place. The best for Covid regulations. Excellent food and good service. Everyone knows what they are doing there. A young vibe which although I’m not was a joy to be around. Recommend.
And ..... two Labrador’s loved it! They can be with you IN the restaurant. ❣️
Took my daughter for lunch mid week and was surprised that the 'deal' was still on in September. A nice surprise.
An occasion to cherish; the sun shone , the food was good and the service courteous and pleasant.
We shall hope to return .
Really enjoyed our lunch on Wednesday and was lucky enough to take advantage of the extended eat out to help out scheme. We were a table of four and all remarked that although the food was exceptionally good it would have been a little expensive for a lunch time get together.
Beautiful location and lovely
Food. Highly recommended.
Probably the worst meal I have had in a long time
crab, little meat, just some nice looking batter and chilli pickle
Rib eye so disappointing, poor quality, poor cut, tasteless, and why pulled pork on top??
burger also poor, McD would have been nicer !!
Well organised for Covid 19 felt safe. Service good waiters doing excellent job
They didn't have about 4 choices on the menu and we only found out once we'd placed the order. There was a power cut during the evening, but the food was OK and service was friendly.
Beautiful food at decent prices, lovely interior and helpful, kind staff.
Thank you Sarah for your review and rating. We will pass your compliments about our food onto our amazing kitchen team. We hope to see you very soon. Many thanks Team Red Lion
Red lion granchester very good food and service would highly recommend.Even with covid the whole experience was very good.
Lovely Sunday lunch with a friend on a warm and sunny afternoon. Food was excellent and service friendly but not speedy - staff seemed rather flustered. I’d put that down to a busy day and coping with social distancing measures. I’ve recently moved to the village and I will definitely be back!
Food was luke warm and although the customer service was friendly they made lots of small mistakes that can easily be avoided. The main disappointment was the food, the potatoes didn’t taste fresh and the chicken and beef tasted mediocre. Wouldn’t be coming back again for a Sunday roast!
Food and service were v good.
It’s a shame I remember what it was like before lockdown. With so few tables and people, no noise, no interaction, it’s all a bit depressing.
Not the restaurants fault at all, just the time we live in.
Had a lovely meal with my two sisters and one husband, we had not seen each other for a very long time. We were well looked after and your attention to detail regarding Covid hygiene, allowed my older siblings to relax and enjoy our time together.
The food was delicious, just a shame the cocktails had run out?! Would certainly come again I wish I lived closer to you!
Second time in 2 weeks we've been and 150 mile round trip each time. I think that speaks for itself! No pushy staff, there when you need them. Wonderful food and dog friendly. Lovely outdoor space. Highly recommended.
Good morning Ada, Thank you so much for your amazing feedback. We really appreciate you driving so far to come and visit us. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon we hope. Many thanks Team Red Lion
The food and service was excellent - the only negative point was that the door to outside was open the whole evening so we were cold. We presumed this was due to covid and letting air flow through but in the coming months it would put me off coming back due to the pub being cold.
Thanks for a lovely evening otherwise
Lovely place aesthetically but the customer care and food could definitely improve.
Waiting staff needed educating on wines, they had to be reminded several times that we needed table water, we never got asked if we wanted any condiments when our food came out, nor did we get asked if we were ok for drinks. I had to nurse one drink throughout the whole meal. Just felt a little neglected to be honest.
I began with the mac and cheese croquettes. There was 3 of them and they were plenty bland. Quite disappointing for £7 a go.
There was no mention of what size the steaks are on the menu, hence when it came I was shocked at the ribeye- it was huge! Asked for it to be medium, was more like medium rare and VERY salty.
Shame really as I was expecting something quite superb there judging by the prices of the food and drink. It was simply mediocre unfortunately. Definitely room for improvement.
Very quaint pub in stunning village. Staff very helpful and friendly, like to say a special thanks to Ella who waited on our table, very attentive and polite. Definitely recommend this place for food or if you just want a quiet drink.
Fish and chips very disappointing, especially at that price (£15) - fish greasy and chips hard, under-cooked, mushy peas minuscule. All much better at my local chippy for half the price.
Our meal was very good, it was served on time and nothing was too much trouble
Lovely place - nice decor, good food, good service and fairly priced. I had the club sandwich and the portion size was very generous. Tasty too. Nice garden area for when it’s warm outside as well. Will definitely be returning.
Fab food and lovely slide for my 2 year old so kept him entertained as well!
On arrival we were greeted by a lady wearing a mask and visor who asked one member of our group to download a QR code on her phone and enter her email address for the track and trace system. We then were offered a table inside or out but as it was a nice day we chose to eat outside. There was hand sanitiser available and a one way system in operation around the restaurant. Our table was situated well away from others and under a parasol. The drinks were brought on a tray and we were asked to remove our own drinks from the tray. The menu was printed on paper (presumably to be disposed of after use??). Unfortunately there was hardly any gluten fee options on the menu and our waiter confirmed they did not have gluten free bread or rolls as an alternative to with the chicken club sandwich!! Therefore not a great deal of choice if you have an intolerance.
The service was good, the food arrived and was presented nicely but all of us commented on how it wasn’t very hot.
We had a pleasant catch up and the ambience was very nice. We felt safe.
There is room for improvement menu wise though.
Day out to visit Granchester and to see the sites from the TV Series and Rupert Brooke connection. Chose the Red Lion on looks, menu and car park. Excellent venue and service, food very good. Would highly recommend over the other two restaurants in the village. Building is beautiful, garden peaceful, outlook excellent and water meadows 100ft away....................Superb!! Great photo opportunities and The Old Vicarage has the statue of Rupert Brooke in the driveway....
Thank you so much for your review and rating. We are really happy to know you had a great time with us and visiting our beautiful village. We look forward to welcoming you back. Many thanks Team Red Lion
The service is great along with some decent food, perfect location for a dog walk after the grub!!!
