Good, felt safe with everyone adhering to the Strict COVID 19 guidelines. Great food, kids meals were really big so a great value.
Great food, great service, gorgeous location. Staff were super friendly and helpful given all the Covid-19 requirements.
Great place to meet friends and eat or drink. The food is amazing.!
Arrived for a prebooked Sunday lunch for 2. The pub were controlling access to their parking space which I thought was a good idea as Grantchester doesn't have the best parking, especially on busy/sunny days.
When we entered the building one of the staff stood uncomfortably close whilst describing their Covid restrictions which was fairly ironic.
After ordering we waited over an hour for the main course and had to flag the waitress down to ask what was taking so long. The food was fine when it eventually arrived, nothing special but no complaints really.
After eating we asked another member of staff for the bill and then waited another 30-40 minutes before getting fed up and walking into the building to pay before leaving.
Wonderful atmosphere as always, nice and busy but felt safe eating outside (apart from the staff members getting too close whilst only wearing face shields (which offer very little protection without a face mask as well). Live music was a nice surprise and not too loud to prevent conversation.
I won't visit again though, the service is just far too slow, despite there seeming to be loads of staff. We felt forgotten about.
I was recommended this pub by friends and it didn't disappoint. The staff, the pub, the location and the food were exceptional. I was also impressed by the way they dealt with the Covid restrictions. I will definitely be returning.
Many thanks for your review and rating, we hope to see you again very soon. Regards Team Red Lion
I'm going to bold and say that this is my favorite pub in Cambridgeshire (especially for a Sunday lunch). The food and service is top quality, great for dogs as they have a huge garden and being only afew metres from the meadows is idyllic. Booking essential so as not to be disappointed! If I had to split hairs, their sauce servings (ketchup/mayo) are teeny tiny; beware sauce lovers - ask for more from the get go!
Lovely. Nice food, great service, very well set up for safe dining.
Our waitress was lovely! Very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and attentive. A great lunch!
The food was so salty I could barely eat it and when I asked to change the vegetables they said they couldn’t change anything. Expensive for what you get
Seated outsied in spacious garden and well socially distanced. Food ( burgers both meat and vegan) were very good and the service was excellent
Very attentive, great puds, average mains, cold coffee, price average to high.....
Lovely food and friendly service. Recommend the tiger prawn linguine
Well organised with Covid 19 masks etc, food was good, staff friendly..only thing I thought could be improved was the paper menu that was handed to us ...not sure if they are reused for other diners, would possibly be better to view the menu online avoiding multiple people touching the same menu. Dined there twice this week very nice.
The pints of Beavertown Neckoil IPA were £6.50 which is totally outrageous!!!!
Lovely service throughout, felt safe at all times with staff wearing PPE hand sanitizing stations, appropriate social distancing. Food was AMAZING! would recommend to anyone
Hi there, We are delighted that you enjoyed your time with us and felt safe throughout the process. We look forward to welcoming you to the Red Lion again soon! Many thanks, Team Red Lion
The Red Lion is exactly half way between Norwich and St Albans. Plus, I was drawn to this area because of the Pink Floyd connection. We were very lucky selecting this restaurant for our family get togethers as it is excellent in every way. It could have not turned out like this! If my son and daughter and their families leave Hertfordshire at the same time as us leaving Norwich, we arrive in the Red Lion carpark at the same time. Car parking is easy, atmosphere of the restaurant is very welcome and accommodating. The food is an added bonus as it is so good. I had vegan fish and chips this time and it was superb. Everybody in our party enjoyed what they ordered and we spent a good couple of hours there. We have young children in our family and they had items from the children’s menu. I think this was our third visit and we will definitely go again.
Hi Roz, Thank you so much for leaving such a wonderful review for us. We are delighted to be at the heart of communities and families such as yours and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Red Lion again soon! Many thanks Team Red Lion
First trip since lockdown. Staff were very friendly and helpful in explaining the new 'system'. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly, the sun was shining... just. Great! There was some lovely live music in the garden which all added to make the perfect Sunday. Thank you!
Very safe covid environment. Food a little pricey. Husband not very excited about his chicken. My roast was nice
Lovely food, staff and ambience. Really recommend!
Delicious food suiting vegan and omnivores alike. Friendly and cheerful staff. Highly recommended.
The food never disappoints and the social distancing measures Now in place are fantastic! I felt completely safe.
First time at a pub since the lockdown felt very safe staff all wearing Ppe , service excellent . There was a problem with one of our meals but it was sorted with no fuss, other than that a really nice meal and pub
Watch out - it is waiter service and they add on a 10% service charge to everything including rounds of drinks.
Limited choice for gluten-free. Nice outdoor seating and play area. Felt safe with the Covid restrictions in place.
Lovely food, welcoming staff doing their very best with covid19 restrictions; a really great experience.
Very good service, staff wearing appropriate PPE, tables spaced apart, we felt safe. Would book again and recommend.
Food average expected a little more due to price.
As a family, we absolutely love the Red Lion in Grantchester. We have had birthday parties, cinema nights and pumpkin carving there. Every meal we have had has been amazing and the kids enjoy playing in the garden.
Lovely atmosphere outside in the garden, perfect for a post-lockdown meal. Loads of space so you’re not near anyone. Food was excellent and staff were great.
It was a very pleasant experience as it was the first time of eating out since lockdown. It was handled really well by the staff who made it very comfortable.
Great Food , staff friendly and attentive despite COVID-19
Lovely meal in the garden; great service. Felt like all the necessary systems were in place for a relaxing, fun and safe lunch. Great to be out!
Great food presented in a setting that was Covid-sensitive but not over-sensitive. Friendly and helpful staff.
We were happy to have booked a table at the Red Lion as we needed somewhere to go after having a walk along the Cam from Grantchester.
When we arrived staff were friendly and there were procedures in place to help people distance and be safe. We had booked an inside table, but were able to sit outside and, even though this meant no table service but ordering at the bar, we decided to stay outside as it was a lovely day and we were more comfortable outside than inside.
My daughter went in to order drinks and was told by the barman that she could order food through a QR code App. We did this, ordering food for ‘in 3 mins time’, ie ASAP. We waited and waited and waited- saw lots of people arriving and thought they must be very busy/slow in the kitchen. Eventually a staff member came over and told us that they just noticed our order as the app was offline, asking if we still wanted our food- we did, being very hungry by now. Some time later the food came- with no condiments, sauces or napkins. The young waiter asked if we wanted anything else and we requested ketchup and mayonnaise. We waited, started eating, waited- then my daughter went inside and, after waiting inside, managed to get condiments, sauce and napkins from the barman. It seemed that no one was in charge inside and staff were not sure who was doing what. The food had cooled down a little by now, but was fine, although portions size was smallish- portion of peas was tiny, more like a wasabi portion. My second drink, ordered with the food- a gin- was out of stock- as was most of the draught beer, so I ordered a different one. The waitress informed us that, as it was a different gin and a different price, that she would reject payment (already made on app), and we would have to go inside and pay at the bar when we were finished there. The pub was now busy, disorganised, they had our payment details on the app, we had waited so much, with little service, so we left rather than go indoors to wait again.
Beautiful traditional pub with a great atmosphere and tasty food!
Great food, great place, Covid secure systems in place and sensible too.
Excellent pub Service was slow but they made up for it as the meal went on.
Fantastic lunch in the back garden and very virus aware. Felt secure and service was extremely professional, food wonderful. Would recommend in a second, but only minor niggle was the inability to exchange regular fries with sweet potato fries! We ended up ordering a side of sweet potato fries, but the regular meal came with normal fries in a separate pot, so the logic that they could not exchange them made no sense.
Excellent cleaning and hygiene levels. The best by far we have seen during Covid 19. Warm welcone and good service together with excellent food.
We were a party of 3, 1 of whom (me) was a bit nervous about coming to a restaurant. I couldn't have been more wrong. The staff were very helpful and explained all the measures they were taking and the whole experience was lovely, even if the weather didn't cooperate! I would thoroughly recommend the Red Lion.
