Arrived for a prebooked Sunday lunch for 2. The pub were controlling access to their parking space which I thought was a good idea as Grantchester doesn't have the best parking, especially on busy/sunny days.

When we entered the building one of the staff stood uncomfortably close whilst describing their Covid restrictions which was fairly ironic.

After ordering we waited over an hour for the main course and had to flag the waitress down to ask what was taking so long. The food was fine when it eventually arrived, nothing special but no complaints really.

After eating we asked another member of staff for the bill and then waited another 30-40 minutes before getting fed up and walking into the building to pay before leaving.

Wonderful atmosphere as always, nice and busy but felt safe eating outside (apart from the staff members getting too close whilst only wearing face shields (which offer very little protection without a face mask as well). Live music was a nice surprise and not too loud to prevent conversation.

I won't visit again though, the service is just far too slow, despite there seeming to be loads of staff. We felt forgotten about.

I was recommended this pub by friends and it didn't disappoint. The staff, the pub, the location and the food were exceptional. I was also impressed by the way they dealt with the Covid restrictions. I will definitely be returning.

I'm going to bold and say that this is my favorite pub in Cambridgeshire (especially for a Sunday lunch). The food and service is top quality, great for dogs as they have a huge garden and being only afew metres from the meadows is idyllic. Booking essential so as not to be disappointed! If I had to split hairs, their sauce servings (ketchup/mayo) are teeny tiny; beware sauce lovers - ask for more from the get go!

Well organised with Covid 19 masks etc, food was good, staff friendly..only thing I thought could be improved was the paper menu that was handed to us ...not sure if they are reused for other diners, would possibly be better to view the menu online avoiding multiple people touching the same menu. Dined there twice this week very nice.

The Red Lion is exactly half way between Norwich and St Albans. Plus, I was drawn to this area because of the Pink Floyd connection. We were very lucky selecting this restaurant for our family get togethers as it is excellent in every way. It could have not turned out like this! If my son and daughter and their families leave Hertfordshire at the same time as us leaving Norwich, we arrive in the Red Lion carpark at the same time. Car parking is easy, atmosphere of the restaurant is very welcome and accommodating. The food is an added bonus as it is so good. I had vegan fish and chips this time and it was superb. Everybody in our party enjoyed what they ordered and we spent a good couple of hours there. We have young children in our family and they had items from the children’s menu. I think this was our third visit and we will definitely go again.

We were happy to have booked a table at the Red Lion as we needed somewhere to go after having a walk along the Cam from Grantchester.
When we arrived staff were friendly and there were procedures in place to help people distance and be safe. We had booked an inside table, but were able to sit outside and, even though this meant no table service but ordering at the bar, we decided to stay outside as it was a lovely day and we were more comfortable outside than inside.
My daughter went in to order drinks and was told by the barman that she could order food through a QR code App. We did this, ordering food for ‘in 3 mins time’, ie ASAP. We waited and waited and waited- saw lots of people arriving and thought they must be very busy/slow in the kitchen. Eventually a staff member came over and told us that they just noticed our order as the app was offline, asking if we still wanted our food- we did, being very hungry by now. Some time later the food came- with no condiments, sauces or napkins. The young waiter asked if we wanted anything else and we requested ketchup and mayonnaise. We waited, started eating, waited- then my daughter went inside and, after waiting inside, managed to get condiments, sauce and napkins from the barman. It seemed that no one was in charge inside and staff were not sure who was doing what. The food had cooled down a little by now, but was fine, although portions size was smallish- portion of peas was tiny, more like a wasabi portion. My second drink, ordered with the food- a gin- was out of stock- as was most of the draught beer, so I ordered a different one. The waitress informed us that, as it was a different gin and a different price, that she would reject payment (already made on app), and we would have to go inside and pay at the bar when we were finished there. The pub was now busy, disorganised, they had our payment details on the app, we had waited so much, with little service, so we left rather than go indoors to wait again.

Fantastic lunch in the back garden and very virus aware. Felt secure and service was extremely professional, food wonderful. Would recommend in a second, but only minor niggle was the inability to exchange regular fries with sweet potato fries! We ended up ordering a side of sweet potato fries, but the regular meal came with normal fries in a separate pot, so the logic that they could not exchange them made no sense.

We were a party of 3, 1 of whom (me) was a bit nervous about coming to a restaurant. I couldn't have been more wrong. The staff were very helpful and explained all the measures they were taking and the whole experience was lovely, even if the weather didn't cooperate! I would thoroughly recommend the Red Lion.
