Excellent restaurant with a small menu but perfectly cooked dishes. I had the vegan options and it was a delight.
Amazing as always, vegan friendly which is always a plus
We had a lovely meal here. The waiter was very personable and helpful and the food was excellent. The decor was interesting and intimate. My only small complaint was that the room was quite chilly.
Food was lovely and service from the waitress was professional.
I visited with my 2 sisters and we all had a great experience. We all had the lamb and we’re still talking about how good it was !
The wine was great and all at a reasonable price.
The staff were attentive without being ‘in your face’
The only criticism would be the decor - only because it wasn’t to my taste. And the limited choice of dishes which would have been a problem if 3rd sister had joined us!
Overall, I’ll definitely be back,
A glorious evening to celebrate our anniversary, service was outstanding and the food was to die for, it’s a place we love and highly recommend to anyone,
Best restaurant in Durham!
Lovely food in pleasant surroundings with friendly staff.
Would recommend and would go again.
The lamb rump dish was especially good and the chef amended the normal pink cooking level to suit one of our party.
Good portion size - no room for dessert.
Lovely restaurant, food was stunning and Gary who looked after us, made us feel welcome and look after our needs, and a really nice person and engaging. 100% be back again
Very considerate - asked if we minded people sitting fairly close by .
Good decor, great style and everything was nicely done. Staff were great. I think food wise, felt that whilst it was good, a few things could have been a tiny bit better to get to excellent.
Rather dingy atmosphere, staff young and unprofessional and the worst pavlova l’ve had. Main course of lamb was very good though. Wouldn’t return.
Lovely welcome and friendly helpful staff. Great atmosphere and decor. Food was not patchy - soggy risotto and also chips were soggy /not crunchy. Steaks were well cooked
Great restaurant. Would definitely recommend if in Durham.
Really good steaks. Excellent service with a smile.
Had a really lovely meal at this hidden gem. Quirky little place with outstanding service and fabulous food.
The service was absolutely spot on, very friendly and helpful staff. Food on the night was great. My wife and I both had medium rare fillet steaks which were cooked to perfection. The only issue we had is that the part of the restaurant we were in was warm and stuffy. A person on another table to us asked if anything could be done to cool the place down but they couldn't do anything. I would recommend it and we will definitely go again.
Excellent food, reasonably priced, wine list short but we’ll priced. Would go again.
Staff were very attentive and friendly. Food was totally amazing! Loved it and will definitely be back!
Small, friendly restaurant. Guy who served us was delightful
Lovely place, helpful friendly staff and superb nosh. Highly recommended 👍
Quirky below ground restaurant, steaks were delicious, service was good.
Lacked a bit of ambiance but it was quiet.
Get hidden spot in town. Brilliant, attentive service. My lamb main course was one of the best I’ve ever had.
Limited menu but great quality, value and service
Sat down a set of stairs just off the main street, we were greeted warmly, the staff very friendly making us very welcome. The food from a limited but varied menu was excellent, and cooked perfectly. Served promptly and piping hot. We had a fantastic evening and definitely will be going back.
Excellent restaurant. Service and food very good. Can recommend
Ordered ribeye and fillet steak both were tough and in my opinion poor quality very disappointed
My wife and I enjoyed our experience from entering the restaurant . We were made to feel comfortable immediately , the staff were so pleasant and attentive and the food and service top class . I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to any resident of , or visitor to , Durham . Well done to you all !!
Lovely restaurant for a evening meal as a couple or a small group. The staff are so nice and it’s rare these days to get such a personal touch. On arrival they make you feel like you really matter and I wish that approach and effort was the norm everywhere. Top marks. The restaurant decor I loved. Chic fifties/sixties film stars pictures on the wall and that cool feel with the colours and style of decor and lovely music in keeping with that time on in the background.
We had starters, soup and the beetroot dish, both good. Then steak. The presentation was great. It all was great. I’ve had better steak but it was still good. And I always think it’s hit or miss with steak rather than the way it’s cooked. There were other main courses that looked great too.
If your not from the area it’s a bit tricky to find if you haven’t got maps on your phone. And trying to find somewhere to park was not simple. Next time we would go straight to the big undercover pay car park. It’s in a lovely part of the city so don’t let that put you off going.
Very nice surroundings, attentive waiting staff. Food was a bit hit and miss, starter , main good, desert not so good.
Nice for special ocasion.
Food was delicious, tender and well seasoned .
Lovely restaurant for a quiet , romantic evening.
We booked on the spur of the moment never been before we booked a table for 6.oopm met with a lovely reception nice table great service and menu and food very well presented and tasted fabulous I had lamb my husband had beef as well as starters could not eat desserts but had coffees.
Overall would highly recommend.
Ate here on a short break to explore Durham. We were very impressed. The staff were welcoming and efficient and we both thought our meal was excellent.
It’s not a cheap restaurant, but it’s good value.
The maitre'd adjusted the music level to our preferred level - at his suggestion - bonus brownie point on top of n all-round excellent evening. Top notch food, excellent wine at sensible prices, good ambience, safe feeling in the environment as regards the virus thingy.
On-line booking system truly does what it should do, and very promptly - easy to use and kept us informed (promptly). M ore to the point it seems to have kept the restaurant informed, too, which doesn't always happen.
Without a shadow of a doubt the best meal we had in Durham. Lovely staff. Great menu. Quiet and refined. First class
Great food, good atmosphere and attentive service - could not fault it.
Waiters were lovely and friendly. The food was poor for the price. Small portions and low quality produce - the crayfish was dreadful and the lamb was extremely fatty. Such a shame, we were looking forward to it.
Lovely food and great fast service. Good value for money and the vegan food was so good.
Disappointing. Menu was too ambitious for the kitchen to fulfil. Dishes did not produce the balance or taste that the ingredients promised. It so happened that our service was slow and one of our dishes was kept warm too long waiting for the other to be cooked. Poorly dealt with by front of house.
Amazing food and quirky restaurant. Service was excellent
Lamb a little under done but soon put right very efficiently and with smiles.
Durham’s best kept secret. Interesting and varied menu - well worth a visit.
