Wonderful service from arrival, and delicious food! Proper fine dining quality with textures and flavour combinations that delight.
Excellent food as normal was just a little empty on this day
Our first visit to Hibiscus and we will be back. Portions are small but just about big enough. Food was beautifully prepared and presented. Service was friendly and mostly efficient but slightly lacking the finesse you might expect of a restaurant of this calibre.
The 3 course menu at £39.50 was excellent value, and the wine list just the right size. Highly recommend not only for pre theatre but also as a destination in its own right.
The menu is possibly a little limited, but the food is superbly cooked and beautifully presented.
This is our new favourite restaurant in Northampton! The best fine dining experience we’ve had in town.
Will definitely be back!
Tasteful restaurant above the Royal and Derngate theatre so perfect for a special pre-show meal. The menu was interesting and provided an element of surprise as the titles did not obviously describe the dish. For example I had ‘sweetbread, celeriac, lamb fat’ for my starter which does not sound particularly appealing but the tender sautéed sweetbreads (presumably cooked in lamb fat) served on a celeriac purée with celeriac crisps was really interesting to eat. Equally, ‘bitter chocolate, coffee, hazelnuts’ surprised me by arriving as a delice type dessert, and was so delicious. Nice extra touches were the deliciously flavoured butters and handmade petit fours (pistachio marshmallows). My husband felt the portions were slightly on the small side but with three delicious courses, we didn’t leave hungry! Highly recommended for delicious, innovative dining.
Excellent food and service, reminiscent of the sort of thing you may find in London
Our first time here and was very pleasantly surprised. It can be difficult to find food of this quality in the area - we will definitely return and would highly recommend Hiiscus.
Booked for a birthday meal we had the taster along with the wine match which I can only say matched perfectly well thought out pairing and a very pleasurable expirience.
Enjoyed a lovely meal with family. The food presentation was outstanding. Staff attentive, decor attractive. Only criticism would be no cheese as a choice for the last course. Will be back.
Order from the main menu and started being served the tasting menu, only realised when the third taster came which we realised wasn’t right. Ordered dessert and waited 25 minutes for it. Other that that it was great!
Great food we had the tasting menu and it was balanced just right. Well paced with lovely wine flight complimenting. Great value to. Something Northampton has been missing for years.
This restaurant deserves a place in The Good Food Guide.
Visited on Sat 14/09/19 and had a great meal in lovely surroundings. We had the A la Carte menu which was extremely good value for money and delicious especially the lamb. The staff were great and nothing was too much trouble for them, making a very relaxed evening. Well Done Chef Sam Squires - loved your food! Only one problem, as a visitor to the city it was quite hard to find, with no signage that we saw outside. But a hidden gem when we did!
Excellent flavours in a range of creative dishes.
As ever a relaxed warm welcome from the team and courteous and attentive service.
Truly wonderful "proper" fine dining experience in Northampton. From start to finish outstanding. The whole team are great.
Excellent food with good service. Second time here and will be going back
wonderful food, excellent service. Delightful venue.
Exceptionally consistant on all fronts, always a very warm and ceerful welcome
Enjoyed our meal. Bit rushed though. Can understand pre-theatre people wanting very efficient service but we were booked in at 8:30. Asked for our main to be slightly delayed but it still came quickly and we were told they have a set schedule. Anyway a minor complaint when the food was good. Tables are packed in in rows which isn't great. Luckily the room was fairly empty.
Everything about this restaurant was awesome .
From the furniture, lighting, tableware it just sparkles in a modern contemporary way .
Food is prepared & surpasses expectations .
With a professional and knowledgeable staff
Fabulous meal and lovely wine. Staff were attentive but not over the top.
I have a gluten intolerance which usually causes problems but the way the manager handled it was wonderful, for once I didn’t feel a nuisance.
I highly recommend the restaurant and will be returning soon.
Had the most fantastic meal at Hibiscus. The tomato based starter was so delicious and the presentation so pretty, who knew that a tomatoe could taste so good! The main meal lamb was out of this world, so tender and sweet, absolutely loved the whole meal. We have eaten in some Michelin star restaurants and I would go as far to say that the food at Hibiscus was better. The service was second to none and all at a great price, what more could you ask for. Will definitely be back.
Lovely restaurant with lovely food . Service could have been slightly improved however, there was a large table of around 15 so we expected this. Overall I would definitely return and definitely recommend.
It was ok, service was excellent but personally a few of the dishes were bland, and we had a lot of them! Setting is beautiful and the dining room is lovely. I'd go to try it but I dont think I'll rush to go back
A really great dining experience, great food, lovely dining room and great value
Still a delight on food front
Better service - but could pay a fraction more attention to diners in between serving.
Needs more variety on white wine by the glass - no Viognier again and no Chardonnay so nothing fruity/off dry. Try Torrontes?
The majority of the food was delicious. However, my dessert was disappointing. Coconut panna cotta was part of this dish but the texture of the panna cotta was unpleasant - so much gelatine that a wobble was impossible; it was very solid.
Everything else was very good though.
Probably the best restaurant in Northampton at the moment. Set in the old Boardroom in the Royal Theatre you enter essentially next to the open kitchen and can see the fresh herbs etc the Chef is about to use.
There’s an a la carte or tasting menu (we had a la carte) and it was fantastic. Relatively small wine list, but plenty good enough. Lovely room to dine in and superb food.
Opens early so you can dine before catching a show downstairs in the Royal or the Derngate.
Really very good.
Fabulous food, great service. Would definitely go again.
This was our 4th visit to Hibiscus..
The quality of excellent food , service & pricing are exceptional & should be applauded for its continued efforts to deliver.
It is by far the best dining experience not only in Northampton.. but further afield!!
The only thing they are missing is a total lack of advertising or PR...
This place needs to be given the credit it deserves to survive..
Come on Marketing team.. Do your part.. Don’t let all this talent & hard work go to waste !!
A really excellent evening with very hospitable and helpful staff. Having tried the tasting menu this time we dined from the a la carte and we were not disappointed. My wife chose seafood dishes which she thoroughly enjoyed. I opted for an asparagus starter with a range of flavours and lamb as my main course which was excellent. We were very pleasantly surprised to see a 10% discount on our bill which was to celebrate the award of a rosette. We will be returning very soon to this much needed fine dining restaurant in the centre of Northampton.
A hidden gem and a fantastic fine dining experience in the main Royal & Derngate Northampton.
The focus is on delivering an excellent product matched with a friendly attentive service.
A must visit for that special occasion
Lovely food, fresh with packed flavour. A quite evening for my birthday. Definitely coming here again. Friendly staff and great service.
Second time we've eaten here and didn't disappoint! Absolutely superb food, service was excellent and we felt very special. Do not miss this place, it is AWESOME
Lovely restaurant and food. Great start to an evening at the theatre.
Special wedding anniversary, we went for the tasting menu which was fabulous! A few things neither of us would have tried normally. Service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. Only let down by the coffee cups, you can’t drink without dribbling and the petit fours which consisted of 1 piece of fudge each. We will definitely return though, thoroughly worth the money, Thankyou x
Great menu, great wine selection, fabulous food, excellent staff and reasonable price!!
A welcoming smile on arrival excellant service superb food and presentation
We have been here a few times before, and the food is always lovely. And every time my wife and I have both been drinking, but have had water as an extra. I took my wife out for dinner last night to try out the new menu, and as before the food was very nice. However, my wife didn't drink so had the still water, assuming it was going to be the tap water as previous visits. It wasn't until we got the bill at the end we realised it was a bottle of still water that we had, and when I saw that it was £5 on the bill, I was shocked. How can anybody charge this much for a bottle of still mineral water, when a pint of beer only costs £4.20 at the same restaurant. I don't mind paying slightly more for things (the food) when they are as nice as at this restaurant, but not for something like water.
