Lovely light salad lunch in a sunny restaurant with good service, ideal in every way
My only complaint was the price of our lunch for the quality of the food. I would expect better quality food for the price we were paying.
Lovely bright restaurant & very relaxing even though usually quite busy, so better to book a table depending on time of day! Good menu & food delicious. Only been for breakfasts so far but lunch menu also looks good.
Service is faultless & cucumber water always offered while dining & staff friendly & attentive.
The food was delicious and the staff were really friendly and attentive.
Lovely restaurant with great food. Although music playing softly was a bit quiet as all tables of two and people talking quietly.
Good value for money Excellent quality food especially the kids menu
Been here several times now at various times of the year. Service is always excellent and the food outstanding
Eaten many times there.
Like the setting and friendly atmosphere, hence our return.
Not disappointed yet again.
Excellent visit, lovely atmosphere and good food. Would definitely return and recommend.
Staff were slightly rude and standoffish! In a child friendly environment I would have expected a child’s breakfast menu.
Lovely casual dining in a relaxed atmosphere with kids activity area and shopping very close by
We received an afternoon tea as a present from my daughter. We booked for 2pm but arrived early.
Delighted to see that the amiable staff accommodated us before our time and we enjoyed the experience.
Food was varied and enjoyable and the restaurant had character - witness the Dinky vehicles under the glass top in the tables. (Was sure I had most of them way back when I was younger).
Good day out and the park looks welcoming even though it was a cold day when we called.
Lovely afternoon tea to celebrate my friends special birthday. We both enjoyed it , especially the fishcake & haggis bonbons, everything was really nice actually.
Would definitely return.
Food and service were really great. There were only a few other people in though which spoiled the atmosphere a little.
The views are lovely from the restaurant and the decor is cool and quirky.
The food was fantastic and the staff attentive and friendly.
Atmosphere very relaxed and informal. I will definitely be back and highly recommend.
Felt the Restoration cafe was great find. Beautifully restored building in Dalkeith country park. My only criticism is that with the wooden floors and metal chairs the noise level was unpleasant and made conversation a challenge. Everything else was fine.
Great for breakfast. Freshly cooked simple menu with fresh local produce. Great ambience in this Country Park. Good friendly service, child friendly
It was a lovely place to visit as a family but not cheap so more of a special occasion restaurant. I’d go again with my kids on a Sunday. Lots of families dining which was nice.
Great spot for super fresh local food cooked really well. Nice friendly staff.
We booked a table for brunch for my husband’s birthday. Like every time we try to leave the house with three small children, we found we were running late. I phoned the restaurant and they were happy to hold our table even though it was busy, but advised us we’d probably have to order quickly as they were due to swap to the lunch menu shortly. Great communication and set our expectations.
On arrival, we weren’t rushed but we were served promptly. The waitress said we could order anything from the menu for the kids and they could amend it to suit. The children had pancakes with maple syrup and berries and they finished it all. My husband and I had the full Scottish breakfast and it was outstanding. The lorne sausage was amazing. It’s not a cheap breakfast and neither it should be. This is an example of paying for quality.
Loved it and we’ll definitely be back.
Eggs Benedict well cooked. Tasty. Good service. Rather noisy. Lots of children. Most well behaved. My friend and I both ordered Eggs Benedict with one egg instead of the two offered on the menu. The price charged remained the same! Good coffee.
Excellent service, food good and wholesome- defo going back.
Slow service, food cold and not cooked properly, potatoes in my soup were par boiled at best. Despite booking online they struggled to find us a table.
Service was superb. Starters & desserts were great. The beef main course was a bit underwhelming and not seasoned well. Turkey was fine.
Really good experience. Dining staff were exceptional and really friendly. Atmosphere very relaxed.
Had a lovely lunch in lovely surroundings. The staff were excellent and at no times did I feel I was being rushed. Will definitely be returning soon!
Good venue, pleasant and professional staff - music a tad loud..!
We ate here in the summer and enjoyed it a lot. So for a family occasion towards Xmas we chose the Restoration Yard again. A good selection of food that was very well presented- it made for a suitable family occasion. A minor glitch was sorted promptly and without fuss. Highly recommended.
We mentioned this was a special occasion. Don’t know why we did as nothing was mentioned or no special celebration. This wasn’t expected but would have been nice.
Food was incredible but the service was poor. We were tricked into paying a bit more for our coffee.
A wonderful venue to take two friends visiting from London x they were impressed! It is a local gem and so easy for me to drive to. Only observation - restaurant was very busy (good sign and great ambience) but the music was loudish and irritating in a very busy restaurant. Just thrilled to have such a lovely quality venue ‘down the road from me’ where friends and family can be taken to.
Yet again restoration yard is the perfect venue. Met girlfriend for a catch up and a quick lunch ended up 3 1/2 hours later! It’s so easy here to switch off and relax. There restaurant was full of grown ups which made a wonderful change to the whole atmosphere., no screaming high pitched children. The staff here are superb , the food and choices are excellent and the ambience /setting wonderful. They have their new menu and ofcourse had to go for the eggs Benedict with spinach and a tattie scone! Food for the soul. The beautiful Christmas decor does make you want to embrace the manic period that is about to be thrust upon us! X
George pud place to be and wonderful Christmas atmosphere.
Service slower than usual due to restaurant being very nearly full and we had to ask a waiter for coffee. Should have been asked if we as wanted that .
Lovely setting staff really attentive
Sometimes a bit pushed
Our 4 th visit will come back but please everyone in the job be careful we feel standards are on the slide !
A delightful meal, attentive staff.
Not rushed & the vista is just beautiful.
Being regular visitors to the Café and having always enjoyed good food, excellent service and value for money we were very disappointed with our recent visit. We had come to accept that attentive service was one of the hallmarks of the Café but sadly we were very disappointed with our recent visit and we were very embarrassed for our guests, who had been keen to follow our recommendation. Specifically, we were unhappy with the length of time we had to wait to be served, having to ask for water when this was always the first thing to be offered when taking our seats, and the time we had to wait for our food to arrive. In addition, the two children's meals we ordered were not well presented and poor value for money when compared to many other eating establishments that cater for children. We were also disappointed that despite having a children's menu there was no separate desert menu for them, which meant we had to order something from the adult menu albeit the staff kindly split this into two portions and only charged us one full adult price. Having now moved to Edinburgh fulltime, it is very unlikely that we will return to the Café, which is a shame given its location; perhaps our standards have risen too much given the wider choice now on our doorstep!
We went there for lunch with some friends to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The staff was very friendly and understanding. And they brought the cake after lunch singing happy birthday which made my daughter very happy. Food was great, and we had a lovely time at fort douglas after lunch. Would definitely return
I have had lunch at Restoration Yard many times and have to say on this occasion it was not up to its usual standard. They don’t seem to be able to cope when it’s extremely busy as it was on this occasion.
Great experience from start to finish. Booking was easy and our request for a table with space for a pram had been recognised and commented on when we were being shown to our seats.
The food was extremely tasty and well presented. Service was attentive and efficient. We will definitely be back!
Greeted to be told Fillet Steak was FINISHED. It was 7.15 on a themed Steak Night !! Not good.
The food was not hot. (except chips)
Plates were not hot.
Very disappointing as we had guests.
We may try again on themed evening and hope for improvement.
Lovely food, great atmosphere, great service. Highly recommended
Nice place to go with walks in beautiful surroundings after. Quite expensive for what you got and not a particularly extensive menu. Service poor - waiter seemed to forget we existed and had to get a waitress who had just started to come and take our plates away so we could order coffee. IT was only then we found out there was a dessert menu. If it wasn't for being in such a nice location I probably wouldn't go back.
