Riccardo started his career at a very young age in Milan's prestigious "GIRARROSTO" family owned. Then, in 1982 he moved to the United States and he opened the famous Sonny Bono's in Los Angeles. In 1987 he started to work with his cousin Roberto Ruggeri, with him he opened Bice New York, Los Angeles and many others around the world.

Together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."

Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course. Some highlights of the menu are Veal Chop Milanese, Veal Shank Osso Bucco, Pappardelle with Short Rib Ragu, various classic Rissotto preparations, and for dessert options like Panna Cotta, Homemade Tiramisu and Tuscan Ricotta Cheesecake round out the menu.

We had six people for a birthday dinner and the experience overall was excellent -- great food, service and ambience, and a very authentic Italian menu. The patrons are "packed in like sardines" in this small dining room (which at first I thought would bother me but over time it actually contributed to the restaurant's energetic vibe). That said, some reading this may care to know that a man at the table next to ours injected himself into our conversation several times, and although we didn't mind as he was very friendly and funny, just know that eavesdropping appears to be common here given the minimal distance between tables. Two of our guests chose the restaurant week menu, which had so many great options that it was difficult to choose. I had the rigatoni buttera, and although I love al dente pasta, this dish was a tad too firm (but it tasted great so I gobbled it up anyway). The braised rib pasta was fantastic, and so was the steak entree. Value is my only lower score -- mainly because the portion sizes didn't always fit the price. We did not end up using the valet ($14) because we found free (unmetered) street parking within a half block of the restaurant so that was an added bonus. On balance, it was an extremely positive experience and we will definitely return!

We went for Restaurant Week. Everything was excellent! Four courses for dinner. Lots to choose from . Everything we ordered was delicious and a large portion .Waiter was attentive and pleasant. Unlike other restaurant week restaurant who scrimp on everything and add on all kinds of fees, Riccardo Trattoria did not. No problem giving us separate checks. If restaurants were smart, they’d put their best foot forward so that people want to return. I’ll be back to Riccardo Trattoria. I won’t be back to Prime and Provisions. I will tell friends how great Riccardo Trattoria was. I’ll tell them how Prime and Provisions skimped on everything and added on numerous fees.

The food was good but the waiters and manager were clearly very eager to turn our table over. We were clearly still on our first course and they asked if we were ready for the next multiple times. We saw the manager ask our waiter why we were taking so long to eat (we had only been in the restaurant for 35 minutes). She made him get our main course and put it down, pushing our still partly full plates from the previous course out of the way. The loud drunk table next to us didn’t seem to bother the staff but for some reason the two of us did. The frequent “aRe YoU ReAdY fOr ThE NeXt CoUrSE?” every 15 minutes was annoying. So sorry for not stuffing my face and trying to enjoy a nice dinner out.

The food was fantastic! Came here for the Chicago Restaurant Week deal and really enjoyed the meal. Unfortunately, we had to wait about 30 minutes even though we had a reservation, but the hostess covered a round of drinks for us. Would definitely come back again
