River Exe Cafe Ratings and Reviews
River Exe Cafe is an excellent venue & after several visits has never failed to impress us & our friends/family we have taken!
Food is local & fresh
Staff always friendly & knowledgeable about the food & drinks available,
It is a great asset to Exmouth & surrounding areas!
Booked a table for lunch as it was my partners birthday and I am so glad I did. We had a fab time, the food was lovely really fresh and well presented (we had neptunes plater) amongst other things and could not fault it. The staff were very attentive and on the ball. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment including the water taxi journey.
We heard about this restaurant while watching a tv show and made a note to visit whenever we were in the area. As it happens we were able to visit on the last night before it closed for the season. We enjoyed our meal but we were tired and weren't able to stay too long after. The staff are wonderful and the service was exemplary. The food was delicious though we felt a little on the pricey side. Still, it's a great adventure getting there and a unique experience we will remember. Thank you to the staff and chef(s). We did enjoy our visit.
A great experience for our family visitors from Berlin. The seafood platter was a major success as they couldn't get anything so fresh at home.
We had a baby with us and we were very well looked after by friendly, accommodating staff. It was great to have the freedom to walk around the boat with the baby while others were eating.
One minor request - maybe offer ice cream with the summer pudding instead of clotted cream!
Water taxi a great treat as always!
Another great visit to the River Exe Café! Two of us shared the Fisherman's Platter which was amazing: a smorgasbord of delicious elements. The other two in our party were equally delighted with their respective choices of main (hake and fish & chips) and starters (scallops and mussels) and the sauvignon blanc was excellent. The river taxi makes the experience extra special, the staff were all great, and we all had a wonderful time. Luckily we managed to squeak in our booking before the café closed down for the winter, and we are looking forward to next year's visit already!
What started life five years ago as a quirky floating cafe in the Exe River has now developed into a full blown restaurant. Considerable construction work took place during the winter season while, the restaurant is closed and there is now a nicely designed structure which protects Di Wes from the elements.
There is a good standard menu and an excellent ‘Specials’ menu. We shared a seafood, chicken and chorizo paella which was excellent. We also, took advice from our waitress who advised thT whilst it was advertised asa ‘sharing’ dish there was more than enough for two people. So we shared between three and still didn’t quite finish it all!
We never got to the desserts. Wines and beers at competitive prices.
Add the experience to the water taxi from Exmouth Marina - a throughly enjoyable lunchtime adventure!
Trip across on boat was fun, even the taxi ferryman was engaging. Beer and wine were good, I like the amber ale a lot. The staff were great, very patient with our 3 old girl who getting a bit bored, they handled it very well, even danced with her to the back ground music. The food was great , a bit pricy but we knew that before we went. We loved the views. We were a part of 8 we two very young children . Excellent. We will go again when we are in Devon. Thanks to all at river exe cafe
The whole experience from getting the water taxi to eating the food and good conversation with the friendly staff was splendid. The fish was local the ingrediance were perfectly combined with a touch of flare. I felt confortable and warm in the restaurant couldn't have had a better experience. The weather wasn't great but that had no impact on my experience. Thank you River Exe Cafe.
This was our first visit to the cafe and will definitely not be our last. I booked it as a treat for my husband's birthday and he absolutely loved it . The whole experience was the reason I rate it so high . No not the cheapest option ,but it made for a great afternoon out . Im looking forward to going again .would recomend highly to anyone.
A really relaxing evening. Heard so many times its a nice place to go and it didn't disappoint.
Arriving by water taxi which was different and well organised, and enjoyed a great evening nice friendly staff and Fantastic food. One restaurant we will return to.
This was again a memorable experience. It was well timed for this time of the year as part of the evening was spent under the setting sun and then the stars whilst having our meal. The food is always excellent with little fuss from the waiting staff. Although cold for this time of September we decided to sit outside and enjoy the estuary and came wrapped up. Beautiful lighting as the sun set with all the sounds of the waders as they flew by to their night time resting place. The experience is complete with a short ride on the Puffin Taxi under the starlight.
A great experience.
We have enjoyed coming here with our children and together to celebrate our anniversaries and birthdays since you opened. We love the water taxi out and regardless of the weather the location is lovely the food is always good and generously proportioned. We love the casual caring way the staff look after us - love the style of each of these young people too.
This visit was our 26th anniversary and I think our best yet. My only complaint that you are becoming too popular and so it is difficult to get a booking!
The whole experience was tremendous fun, the food was super, the organisation excellent and the personnel helpful and pleasant. We will certainly go again but it is not an every day outing as it is expensive, especially for us as we have to make fairly elaborate arrangements to get there but we loved it.
We wanted to take my in laws for a special meal while they were staying with us. The river exe cafe had been recommended to us and we were certainly not disappointed. The ferry out there added to the evening... the skipper was friendly and we were able to have a good laugh with him on the journey there and back. The food was outstanding.... our group tried the scallops, squid and the bruschetta to start and then the cod and chips, plaice, steak and veggie burger for mains. We could not fault a thing. Puddings were great too and a great choice of drinks. We were well looked after and the atmosphere inside was amazing with gorgeous views all around. We will be returning as soon as we can!
Food was lovely although could put a little more effort into the meat options. Very dog friendly which we appreciated. Very good and friendly service. A great experience flosting on the water and a nice boat trip there and back and saw a seal basking on a platform. Overall a great experience and a nice treat.
Great experience starting with the water taxi, excellent food and service. Even though the kitchen was obviously limited in size, the menu choice of mainly mainly fish and sea food Was good. There was also a reasonable choice of other options . The portions were generous and well presented. A nice touch was the handwritten 'Happy Birthday ' sign on the table.
Perfection! What a wonderful experience. I have been lucky enough to eat in incredible places in the World. This restaurant hits all the right spots. Discreet efficiency, relaxed atmosphere, peerless attention to detail - the staff are faultless, the cooking does what is says on the packet. We asked for something to be cooked off menu and it was executed without fuss and at no extra charge. Fabulous experience from start to finish - THANK YOU.
Overall excellent experience even though the weather didn't co operate! The only small criticism was the chips were horrible yellow and greasy tasting but I looked around and everyone else was eating them so maybe it was me! We will be back next year for birthday treats!
