Basic food. Restaurant smelled of fish and was way too hot
So handy after the cinema, 3rd visit and am sure won’t be the last.
One of my favourite restaurants but sadly let down by the poor service from the waiting staff.
Greeted to be told our table wasn’t ready even though most tables were empty upstairs and others were clear.
Held at the bar until it was ready.
Sat down, provided menus and then waited, waited for a bit longer and then was finally asked what we would like to order.
At no point were we asked how the food was, played were cleared and also our wine and water glasses were cleared at the same time and the waiter disappeared. He eventually came back and said would you like dessert, we said yes I then watched him wait for another table to decide on theirs before he then took their menus and brought them over, was odd as I’m sure they have more than 2 menus.
Trying to pay was difficult as the two waiting staff were more concerned with talking to each other and setting tables than looking after the customers apart from the one big table.
If this was my first time here, I wouldn’t be back.
Lovely little place. Great brunch and great coffee too. Staff were attentive and helpful. Wonderful place to grab a bite if you're in the area.
One of my favourite regular evenings out takes me first to the Greenwich Picturehouse and then for supper at the Rivington . I invariably enjoy tasting one of the range of gin cocktails on offer together with the excellent dressed crab. The atmosphere is warm and lively without being overpowering; service is excellent. On my last visit I had the boxy pancake with smoked salmon starter followed by the
House Beefburger and this proved to be an excellent choice .
Great. Love this place.
My wife and I came on a Friday for dinner before catching a film at the adjacent cinema. We shared a crab starter which was delicious, quite rich so just right for two people. I had the lux burger which was outstanding. My wife had the prawn/monkfish curry which was very tasty. We shared the raspberry creme brulee - again, just right for two people. We ordered a carafe of the California pinot noir for the meal. Total came to £78 - pretty good value. The place was busy after around 7.30pm but it wasn’t noisy or seemed chaotic. We’ll be back!
Very pleasant food. Staff very efficient and helpful.
Always seems a little more expensive than expected.
As always, a wonderful experience: very good service led by the high quality manager. I wish the standards of service and care were as good at The Ivy Cafe!
Second time we have dined here and we enjoyed it but not without minor issues. We ordered two Sunday roasts and a fish and chips all of which were excellent: tasty and filling. Dessert however was poor: the spotted dick overcooked in a microwave so as to be hard and inedible. Be aware also that dogs are allowed at the bar, if that is something that bothers you. It did us but nothing we were able to change. Service is good and prices for central Greenwich reasonable.
2nd visit to Rivington in as many weeks and again it was a nice way to round off our cinema visit. Had the burger this time and it was very nice. Good to see that the menu changed and used seasonal ideas.
Menu uninspiring, with several items replaced or unavailable. Generally overpriced for what we had. However, service was very attentive.
The overall ambience is quite similar to the 'Cheers' bar - we even met the resident bar pundit Ashley, who entertained us with his knowledge of the 291 varieties of Gin served.
The service was good, without being intrusive and the level of interaction was suitable and friendly, without being over familiar.
The steaks, to be honest were a little overpriced for the size £28 is more a West End price tag
The monkfish & prawn masala was sold out - I guess this is a testament to it's popularity.
Quite a limited vegetable & side dish selection - no asparagus and I was informed you can only have Portobello mushrooms if there are some left over from the breakfast menu
I look forward to returning to try the Sunday lunch, which has been highly recommended.
My partner and I went to the Rivington for a celebratory evening meal. I had a really nice G&T and fish pie, which I really enjoyed. My partner had the lamb chop which he was disappointed with - very fatty and it came with a lumpy parnsip mash. The ambience was lovely, but the service wasn't great overall - we were waiting ages to ask for the bill and for our plates to be cleared. And the couple sitting next to us sent back a plate of food which was cold, and the waiter argued with them saying that he didn't think it was cold, which didn't create a great atmosphere. Overall I wouldn't go again - overpriced for what it was.
We eat here quite a bit and it’s pleasant. On this occasion several items were unavailable making choices limited. Also the large group dining near us left and the staff dismantled and moved the tables - quite disruptive to our meal. Suggest asking to be seated downstairs. Nice cocktails and wine list and reasonable value. Disappointed with this visit however
The Sunday roast is great, delicious in fact. Good value wine list and the overall value is great. Shame about the slow service, especially when you are on the upper level and in a corner, you are constantly forgotten. They don’t even offer a dessert list after the mains have been cleared. You just pay and leave. Love the bar, the food and the overall atmosphere, just a shame with the lack of service when you are not in the bar or on the ground floor. Sometimes great but sometimes just not right.
All good as usual
Booked for Sunday roast, arrived and sat at the table with menus .. when we were ready to order the waiter tells us that they sold out on beef roast and we should “pre-book” our roast. Never returning
This is a good spot for pre or post cinema dinner, being right next to the Picturehouse in Greenwich. Good food, nice decor, quick, friendly and efficient service.
We visit the Rivington regularly and it's one of our local favourites. We always try to take family and friends there when they are visiting too. Great service, wonderful food.
I very much enjoy my visits to the Rivington. I must admit I usually have the dressed crab with a couple of gin cocktails ( The hot gin cocktail was a seasonal success in my view ) followed by coffee, and perhaps the truffles. Always an excellent start to an evening viewing a film, Live transmission or opera at the Picturehouse.
Been here a couple of times in the last few weeks, once for dinner once for Sunday lunch. Both times the food was great and staff very friendly with good service. Highly recommended.
I have been to this restaurant once before and I thought it was very nice, nice food, and good lighting etc, but on this occasion when I came Saturday evening on the 24th November, it was extremely rushed. About 5 minutes after ordering our starter it was on my table, then the main meal came up very quickly with about 5 minutes after the starter. We were in and out of there within 40minutes.
So on this occasion I found it incredibly rushed and hope that they can at least give us time to talk and let our starter go down first before bringing the main meal out.
other than that I do like this restaurant and the layout of it and the mood lighting is lovely.
Probably best Sunday roast in south east. Delicious.
As always, the food was reasonably good. However, it always seems slightly expensive. Nonetheless, it is still better than some of the other dismal restaurants in Greenwich.
Sunday lunch very expensive and beyond mediocre. Yorkshire puddings are a powdery fail. Totally over priced for 3 roast potatoes mixed green veg and beef which was not served as requested pink. The service was also below par but this was a trainee with no supervision let alone knowledge of drinks or food. As this is part of the caprice group I would expect service and training to be paramount. Sad we made this choice today as in the past it was a very good roast.
Always a big pleasure visiting Rivington, with or without the children. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. It never disappoints!
Our first time but we would definately come again!!! We booked a table for 7pm as we were going to a 9 o'clock screening at the picture house next door. We were delayed by local traffic and phoned to say we would be late. A delightful lady said ' no problem. We arrived half an hour late but received a warm welcome.
We were shown to a romantic table upstairs on the mezzanine level, overlooking the main dining area. White tablecloths, fresh flowers and candles created a lovely ambience a dining experience..
The food was excellent, freshly prepared and well presented. A lovely evening enjoyed by both of us.
Good to be back at the Rivington. Always reliable food and service. And resonable prices.
The restaurant has a large fruit fly infestation. We pointed this out twice but no apology or action taken. We had to move table as the flies were in our beverages.
The restaurant was very average and requires a refurb and a good clean. I’m afraid I won’t be back.
Good food and wine after celebrating my husband's receipt of his doctorate. Pleasant and welcoming staff.
Went for Sunday lunch. Potted shrimp to start, served without the pot. Bit salty but enjoyable, served with really good bread. Roast pork for the main was excellent. Crunchy yet fluffy potatoes and plenty of crackling with the pork.
The real treat here is the gin menu. Huge gin selection and guidance on the tonics.
The ambience was pleasant, though it feels like it needs updating a bit. Screaming child on the next table (it is Greenwich). Smell of cigarettes lingered for a while everytime the waitress came by.
As always, we had a wonderful evening: excellent, friendly, efficient service, delicious food and wine.
SO superior to the service and welcome at The Ivy Cafe Blackheath! Thank you!
Delicious food and excellent service. Will definitely be coming back.
Nice friendly staff and, with the exception of the side order of green beans which were quite limp and colourless, the food was very good. The downstairs dining room and bar is a good space.
This place never fails to impress - from the extensive gin selection to the rib eye steaks, both are amongst the best I have ever experienced.
Rivington Greenwich is a nice little gem away from the tourists that overcrowd the market area. The service was prompt, polite and very efficient. Definitely a lovely place for brunch.
This restaurant always produces brilliant food with great serve. Add to this a well chosen wine list. Last night's meal was basically perfect.
food was very good definitely would return to try more dishes. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."
