A gem of a spot! The lobster nachos are GREAT. We stayed for drinks and dinner, Michael the bartender was friendly and helpful and made us good drinks, nice selection of crafts too. We had the lobster special that was big and really tasty, we also liked the burgers and homemade chips. Our party of eight (adults and kids) were comfortable at the big table and the Kids liked the pizzas and that the singer took their requests. Can't wait to go back in the warm weather and sit outside! We would definitely recommend it!
Service was exceptionally slow for the level of business that evening. Appetizer was cold and greasy. Short rib was over cooked and strangely presented. Fruitti di Mare was full of overcooked seafood and was exceptionally salty. While we enjoyed the ambiance, we will not return.
I am sorry you weren't completely happy with your dining experience. Having multiple dining rooms can sometimes give the false appearance that there isn't much activity in the restaurant but I do apologize service wasn't to your satisfaction. As for the cuisine, we have an extensive menu and I'm sure other items would be more to your liking if you see fit to offer us another opportunity to shine. Either way, thank you for your comments, we will certainly address all of the issues you raised.
Jamie was an awesome server!
Our party of three was seated immediately. As it was a slower night we sat at a table in the bar area which has many TVs on but with no sound.
Our server was appropriately attentive and helpfully explained a few menu items. Water served immediately as was warm bread with sides of butter and oil with pesto seasoning .
Our food was presented attractively, hot and plentiful.
We were checked on soon after food arrived and then midway through our meal.
We all agreed we had found a place to come back to.
Thank you for your comments. We are pleased you enjoyed your visit, we'll see you again soon.
Awesome place! Excellent wait staff!!! Superior entertainment! Will be back upon traveling back to New England!
We had a wonderful dinner in a pretty little dining room. Loved the copper ceiling and fireplace. Service was excellent. Would definitely recommend Rocks 21
The food was delicious! Great value! For $25, my husband and I got the special: Maine lobster with vegetables and potatoes that came with chowder. Best New England chowder I’ve had in awhile and the lobster and vegetables were cooked perfectly! Server was very nice but we did have to call her over for dessert and the check as the night got busier. Nice cozy atmosphere. We stayed at the Inn at Mystic so it was very convenient.....walking distance from our room . Would definitely recommend it.
I’m sorry to leave a negative review because I almost never have a negative dining experience, but they were out of the filet Mignon (which was why we came), the restaurant was frigid, the singer horribly off-key, the baked stuffed shrimp likely was baked from frozen, and the lobster bisque was extra salty and lukewarm - the worst dining experience in many years. We came to this restaurant for of 10th and 25th anniversaries, but now as Rocks 21, we won’t be coming back for our 30th 🙁
We do apologize for the poor experience. Please know it is unacceptable to us as well- we are typically highly regarded for our cuisine and friendly, attentive staff. We performed well below our norms and I sincerely offer my regret for the bad showing on your anniversary. I hope that you will allow me to invite you back well before your 30th and convince you that your trust would not be misplaced. Please just let me know. Thank you.
Did not mind the wait, it was Valentines Day, but the chicken was half cooked and the steak that was ordered Med- well came out very rare. The service was extremely slow. Food was cold and dry (baked potato), so No, we did not have a good experience. We are normally not too picky, but this was not what we were looking for!
We had reservations at 7 PM on Valentine’s Day. The restaurant seemed disorganized and understaffed (hostess was running food, etc.). Despite running a prix fixe menu, the restaurant seated us 15 minutes after our reservation. 10 minutes after being seated, we still hadn’t been waited on. We walked out. Didn’t have a chance to try the food, but found the service to be unacceptable.
I do apologize for the poor showing last night. We did have two staff members have to leave at the start of service for personal reasons. With everyone doing everything they could to cover we still weren't able to perform to our everyday standards. I do hope you will allow me to be in touch directly and invite you back in so that you can try Chef David's cuisine and enjoy service from our excellent waitstaff. If not, I fully understand. Again, my apologies for the shortcomings on our part.
I hate to give bad reviews and perhaps holidays are not the best day to rate a restaurant, however, our experience was so bad it was comical. CHEERS TO THE CHEF... That was the ONLY great thing about this place. The food was incredible.
We were spending a romantic weekend at the Inn and decided to make reservations to eat at Rocks 21 as it is right on the grounds. We started with happy hour at about 4. the bartenders were a hot mess. they do not work well together. none of them had a hold on the bar or the tables that were getting sat in the lounge and the bartender Dan is a grump. He spoke bad about his fellow bartenders and to me that is a big NO NO. The bartender who was great was not even a bartender, she was just filling in for the night.
She was great. You all look good together and you all look bad together and this night was a bad one. As for dinner... we didn't need to bother making reservations since we didn't eat until 9:30. Reservations at 7, sat at 7:45. We did get some bread and water from the busboy but never saw a server. it was not until the hostess asked how the night was going that we advised we would like to see a server. She was very apologetic and went to get someone. Jamie came over and although she was very sweet, it took 3x after asking for more bread to get it and the drinks from the bar took so long, my husband went up and got his own. Good thing we like each other because all we could do was laugh about the whole thing. Both couples on each side of us got up and walked out, that's how bad it was.
We do apologize for our poor showing for your Valentine's Day reservation. It certainly isn't how we typically operate- it was a challenging night for multiple reasons and I am sorry for your experience. I do hope you'll let me invite you back personally and show you what our staff in both the front and back of house are capable of. Please let me know. Thank for the feedback and hopefully for an opportunity to put our best foot forward at a future date.
I apologize for your experience last night. We did have two staff members have to leave at the start of service for personal reasons. I do hope you will allow me to be in touch directly and invite you back in. If not, I fully understand. I do apologize.
The meal and drinks were amazing. Great entertainment and good service. I would absolutely recommend this restutrant.
My friend and I were in Mystic on a Monday. Rocks 21 was one of only a few restaurants open for lunch. We had patronized The Flood Tide and new that the location and view were wonderful. The prosciutto wrapped asparagus which was served with a delicious red sweet sauce was absolutely delicious. The side salad was fresh and the blue cheese dressing had more blue cheese in it than I have ever had before. Excellent meal. My friend had the Falafel meatballs which were excellent as well.
Waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and recommended items.
Great food and great service. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
We had a nice table by the window. Everyone working there was friendly, attentive, and courteous. The chef came by to ask how our dinner was. We were having an enjoyable evening relaxing with friends. We all are looking forward to returning.
Had a wonderful time. Great table, staff was excellent, and the food was tremendous. Will definitely return
Very accomadating, great food and views. Marci was our server and delivered excellent service
My husband and I celebrated Thanksgiving at this restaurant and we’re so excited to have been part of open table and eating here.
After the restaurant changed hands, we had read some initial negative reviews of Rocks 21 but decided to book for Thanksgiving nonetheless because, well, tradition is tradition. We are happy to say we weren’t at all disappointed. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, and though it was a buffet, she was great at anticipating our needs (like noticing I’d forgotten to get a soup spoon and bringing one over before I had to run back over). The wine selection was good, as were the buffet options, which were fresh and expertly prepared. Only suggestions would be to keep the bar open even during dinner service (I get why they didn’t, though) and offer a few more options for sides/ appetizers, but these were minor things. We will definitely be back next time we are in Mystic!
Enjoyed a nice lunch at Rocks 21. Food was tasty, service was excellent, beautiful view
Great time at ROCKS21! There was a band playing and we were sitting nearby so obviously loud but we were offered a quieter seat in the dining room area so no worries there. Great food, drinks, and service! Definitely recommend this place for anyone visiting Mystic!
I live in the area and enjoy going here to relax and enjoy the food and music
Wonderful staff and food is so good
We had reservations for dinner. We weren't permitted to eat in the dining room. The tavern had a guy playing guitar (terrible) at way too high a volume. We were seated in another "dining room" that was more like a hallway with very bright can lighting. It was cold (a door opens to the deck and the weather was just cold enough to be unpleasant. The room didn't feel heated.
We ordered an appetizer (artichoke dip) that came out cold (never fully heated). We sent it back. It returned no better (and not new). Little in the way of apology. My daughters flat bread pizza was burned and she didn't enjoy it. My seafood dish had overcooked shrimp and lobster.
They discounted our meal by half the cost of the appetizer. Really? Just eat the cost!
We will be returning to the area many times in the next four years. We'll never go back here. You shouldn't either.
Went there for dinner on annual college visit with daughter. They are definitely in a state of transition from what was once fine dining to a more contemporary vibe. They haven't hit it quite right yet. It's been revamped since it was Harbor House. More casual, with a focus on the large bar. We sat in the dining area which lacks ambiance but has a great view. Food was OK, but not great. They do seafood well. I had NE clam chowder and a scallops and risotto special. The scallops were great, the risotto under cooked. My family enjoyed their meal, but we were glad we sat in the dining area because there was live music in the bar and we would not have been able to talk to each other otherwise. They seem to be the happening place in Mystic. My family enjoyed their meals, flatbread pizza (ok, a little burnt), chicken wrap sandwich, fish and chips. Large portions. Desert was key lime pie with an odd blueberry drizzle. Coffee at end was luke warm. Go for the bar and the nightlife, not the food.
Drinks where very good
Huge array of craft beers on tap
Rocks 21 offers a beautiful setting, great food and drink and live music on the weekends. We had several appetizers that were all delicious and the manager came over several times to make sure we were all happy. Our server, April, was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Great atmosphere with an acoustic duo playing, outdoor dining and fire pits after sunset. A perfect spot to spend a beautiful night at the end of a great summer. Highly recommend!
Very strange outdoor area.
Delicious food, good service.
The waiter was great - professional, helpful, pleasant. The food was not very tasty. My son who loves pizza and was excited to have the flat bread, would not have more then two bites. Great location, but the food needs improvements. As we were walking out, one of the cooks was outside of the kitchen door smoking - not want you want to see.
Menu- I looked at the menu on their website and saw a few good options and decided to go, but when we got there NONE of those options were available. The available menu is mediocre at bet, although it what we eventually settled on was well prepared. Outside deck is nice and our server was friendly. As a local, I would have to say that there are far better options in Mystic for the money and very basic fare.
At one point, this was an upscale establishment.. lodging and dining. The place seems a little run down and showing it’s age. The servers were young and inexperienced, showing little to no concern about whether or not we had what we needed, and the food was just okay. But the outdoor dining area is nice.
Steve our waiter was wonderful
Pleasant and professional
Thank you Steve!
Will definitely be back as I’m from thenarea
Very happy to hear that Steve made a great impression- he is an outstanding guy/server (this is not Steve writing this...). We'll look for you soon.
I actually felt bad for this establishment. They have a decent location and potentially great ambiance. However, the food was so abysmal that I can't even begin to properly describe it. Soggy "crab" cakes that were mostly filler. The completely wrong wine. A "salad" that supposedly had leeks in it. No leeks. We eventually got the right wine, drank that and left the rest of the food there. The manager did try to ask if anything was wrong. I didn't even have the heart at the time to say anything. I simply paid and left. I hope for their sakes that they can improve. But you might want to just avoid this place for now. Alas.
Dinner was really good, appreciated the chef accommodated our vegetarian friends special request. We will definitely returning and look forward to the new menu.
We are glad you enjoyed your time with us. Hope to see you and your friends again soon.
You can’t beat the view off their deck and the bar downstairs is fun! A little more attention to detail on the final execution of the food & they’ll be hitting a home run here!!
Thank you for your comments- they are certainly being taken to heart. Hopefully we'll see you again soon and can impress you with the last few items you felt were missing.
My husband and I booked reservations for our wedding anniversary. The first thing we see when we walked in the restaurant was a lit up raindeer, lit up Christmas tree and lit up Christmas wreath on the wall. This is July! Just strange. The food was prepared well and our waiter was professional. However, there were bread dishes on the table but no bread was served. I have never experienced that ever in a restaurant. Water was not on the table either or offered. Also, no dinner music was playing over head and the table next to us was very loud. A little music over head would have made it better. There were some candles on some of the tables but none were lit and our table had none. There was also two big lanterns on the fireplace mantel that also was not lit. It's the little things like ambiance that would have made a special night much nicer and worth the money. I feel like the employees were there to do a job and serve a meal but didn't care about the customer expirience. For the price of the dinner I just don't feel like it was worth the experience.
We had dined at this restaurant prior to the new management. The restaurant service staff tried to offset the poor menu availability, service time for food and the total poor communication between the kitchen and wait staff. We will never return - the $400+ price tag was not worth the experience.
This restaurant does not rise to the top in the Mystic CT. Area. The lobster rolls were good but the steaks were not that good. Quite stringy.
