Very lovely place however very hard to get a momentum with the service. Food was gorgeous, need to improve the attention to detail and service
Food was amazing as always.. staff are so friendly and so helpful. It really is a special place to go out. Great for a special occasion.
Food good, service poor, spoke to manager who handled the situation brilliantly!
Great food and great atmosphere. A really good place for a celebration.
Everything about the food, wine, service, staff, restaurant, rooms etc. was fabulous. This a great place to stay in a fantastic location. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Great ambience and excellent food. The service was friendly and attentive. We’ll be back!!!
Very good experience overall. We ate late on a sunday afternoon so did not benefit from the full menu available - but next time perhaps. Following a long drive from Cardiff Rocksalt was the perfect pace to enjoy our main meal of the day. I would heartily recommend the crab and sweetcorn soup. The staff were excellent and treated us as if we were the most important people they had seen that day. This time, we were only en route to France, but Folkestone and Rocksalt will become a destination in future. Thank you, everyone, for a really lovely evening and I look forward to seeing you again.
The meal was nice and the setting very pleasant but not outstanding and have had better elsewhere in that price range. Quite possibly the best for Folkestone but as we’d travelled to the town to eat here we wouldn’t necessarily recommend it as a worthwhile trip. Waitress was a bit sloppy with the wine pouring, spilt down side of glass on more than one occasion.
Really disappointed. Last time we went, earlier this year everything was great. We went on Saturday 12th Oct. with my brother and wife who had come over from Belgium for the weekend and this was a special meal. The restaurant was full and very hot and very noisy. Greeted by someone who was really rushed off her feet and did not make us feel a valued customer. The waitress talked about some special of the day, which was said very quickly and given the background noise we all had real difficulty hearing what she said. A different waitress came up and put a tag on the table without telling us what it was (it turned out that it was to identify our coats, which we only discovered when we went to collect our coats at the end). We chose from the menu, but then later found a a separate sheet on the table which had other specials on it which the waitress had not made clear to us. Our food came and still no-one had come to take our wine order. Food was not bad, but lamb was chewy. The room was so warm that we didn't feel like a sweet and just wanted to go. The bill took ages (the waitress carried on cleaning tables after we had asked for it) and then had to ask for a card machine so that we could pay. Its a lovely restaurant, but when it is that full and hot, it is not pleasant. It was impossible to talk and be heard without really leaning over the table. The waiters and waitresses were all very pleasant but were inexperienced and so busy that they could not create any personal rapport with the customers and help them make the best choices.
Service, excellent, lovely table facing the harbour , the food was excellent, absolutely superb , we had the special a whole sea bass to share, it was such a treat delicious.
Food was amazing! Lovely Reasturant great views would def recommend will be back soon! Manager of the Reasturant was amazing she couldn’t be more helpful
We’re made very welcome the food was very good the location very pleasant and the price was reasonable we will come back thanks for an enjoyable afternoon
Was given a gift voucher for my birthday and had never been here before. Staff were polite and very helpful. My wife had roast organic chicken and I had a feather blade steak with onion rings and mushrooms. Both the meals looked and were delicious as were the deserts.
We had an excellent meal and, although the restaurant was extremely busy, the service was very good. However, we did not appreciate having to wait more than 10 minutes for our table to become available and this was for a 20.30 reservation. It was also very noisy indeed!
Very overpriced for the quality of food which was distinctly average and the restaurant was extremely understaffed.
The food did come out quickly but everything else took a long time, we had to ask twice for water, never got asked whether we wanted a dessert, and waited 15 minutes for the bill. The manager did take off the service charge but I can't help feel that the staff will get penalised for the managements lack of staff!
Would definitely expect more for a place that is charging £20+ for main courses. London prices but not London food quality or service!
My companion had the Catch of the Day Halibut and raved about it. I had pink Lamb which was good. Overall a good meal.
As General McArthur said ''I shall return''.
Found ourselves in Dover & this was far
A perfect evening - looking forward to returning when we’re next in Folkestone.
Lovely evening, good food. Only recommendation was the 2 or 3 staff covering our table duplicated the same thing over and over i.e bread first before taking order, once order was in, someone else asked if we would like to order. Offered drinks and whilst they were being done, asked again if we would like drinks, same thing with dessert. It appeared they did not know what the other was doing. We were also interrupted whilst talking on several occasions....in my book this is a no, no. Perhaps these points can be passed on.
2nd time here and it is run like a well oiled machine . The food was exceptional too . Even the tap water was a pleasure
Absolutely amazing from start to finish, would highly recommend! Everyone was friendly and attentive without being over bearing, the food was delicious and just the right amount of time between all courses. Our only very mild criticism is that the gypsy tart had a taste of lemon which was not to our liking...oh and the toilets were particularly cold but if they’re the only faults you know it’s good! If you get the chance to go, do, you won’t regret it...planning our next trip back!
Very enjoyable evening for all four of us. The food and service were very good indeed. The waiter immediately took account that one of our party was gluten intolerant which was appreciated.
As ever a treat and a delight. Perfection on every level. Bring back the shipping news!
Glorious food served in amazing surroundings.
So often restaurants use amazing views and perfect location as an excuse for lack lustre food. Not so here. I would eat Rocksalt’s food off cracked plates in a drafty hall.
Had a lovely meal at Rocksalt, all of the staff were so friendly and helpful. I had the beef roast dinner which was amazing and all of my friends thoroughly enjoyed their meals also. The location and interior of the restaurant is fabulous and even though it was a rainy day this didn't take away from the views of the sea. Would definitely dine here again
This was my sister and I first visit and was overwhelmed by the experience. The staff were exceptionally helpful and in the background. The Sunday lunch menu was as expected and the quality of the ingredients were extremely tasteful and ample portions. It was obvious that great care is taken in producing a truly awe inspiring menu at a reasonable price. The only niggle was the position we were seated in and felt poked out of the way and I had to sit almost sideways on one cheek but this did not deter from such an enjoyable atmosphere and will certainly come back.
Fine consistent standard
Amazing food and stay, would recommend to anyone who’s a fan of sea food and also a delicious steak
Thank you for a wonderful evening - fantastic food and wonderful staff!
Another excellent meal at Rocksalt! The staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive, so we felt valued as customers. The food was delicious. I had the dressed crab which was light, tasty and melt-in-your-mouth whereas my mum had the chilli & garlic prawns which were succulent and tasty. I would highly recommend both. For mains we had the guinea fowl which had a wonderfully crispy skin and flavoursome blackberry sauce! My only regret is that we didn't order extra vegetables to go with it, but that's our fault.
It was a very busy saturday night and yet no one rushed us, so we had a wonderfully chilled meal looking out onto the harbour. One thing that we particularly appreciated - the staff topped up our wine glasses for us throughout the meal. It may be a small thing, but it is something that we both enjoy and yet seems to be lacking in so may restaurants today.
I can say with confidence, "We'll be back!"
FOR LOCATION AND SERVICE WITH A SMILE, IT’S HARD TO BEAT. ADD THE EXCELLENT SEAFOOD, AND IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT.
60th birthday meal with close family and friends. Really nice service, food and ambiance.
Very pleasant evening.
Slightly limited selecti.n of vegetables as side dishes and many main courses had salads rather than vegetables with them which is OK for the height of summer
Great atmosphere and interior, great views, superb food.
We have eaten in Rocksalt 4 times now with a very mixed experiences. Started with a cocktail which was sadly undrinkable due to being so bitter. Yet to have a really good cocktail here. Fish soup, which I have raved about in the past, was not cooked out so could taste the flour. Steak - flat iron, was very chewy. Mash and veg delicious. Such a beautiful setting, it's a real shame the food and drinks are so inconsistent. Staff attentive and polite tho took the cocktail away without mention and rolled eyes when chewy steak was mentioned. Made us feel complaints are common place. Didn't want a discount just hoping for the quality to match the price and consistency as it really is a gem.
Lovely atmosphere and view, professional staff and excellent food
Firstly may I commend the chefs as the food was all that we had been anticipating but sadly our overall experience was tempered by the poor service received.
We had put Rocksalt up on a bit of a pedestal and as a result looked forward to celebrating my sons 25th birthday here. At times we felt we had been forgotten and this proved to be the case when we were left waiting for side orders. Staff failed to notice that we were expecting sides and as a result our food was a little tepid by the time our sides that had been left off the original ticket arrived.
Thank you for removing the charge for the sides as way of apology, much appreciated, but still not enough to leave us feeling a little disappointed as we were once again left waiting to pass our desert preferences.
Such a shame.
We had a nice dining experience with our friends and enjoyed the sea view ambiance. It was very noisy but bearable. We found it all very expensive, food and wine and didn't feel we had value for money. My wife had the peppered squid which was a little rubbery and was more batter than squid, the dressing on the salad was not special. One of our friends had the skate and found it very tasteless. We won't be returning at £60 a head and I don't like to be charged over 10% for service charge, which included a very expensive but average bottle of wine., and two beers.
Superb food and very friendly staff, who did make a mistake which delayed our second course but their response was fantastic and so this small error did not distract from our enjoyment of Rocksalt.
i had the skate, my partner the slip soles, the fish was wonderful and perfectly fried. Reservations about the green vegetables, to out taste they were heavy on the salt and needed another thirty seconds cooking.
The staff are delightful as is the setting, a lovely evening, thankyou all.
