Nice restaurant but unfortunately they got my main meal wrong. I ordered plain grilled Ray and it was covered in seasoning- kind of spoilt the experience for me! I’ve been to many restaurants and all have been able to grill a skate plain with no seasoning so not sure why this expensive restaurant couldn’t......?
First time at the Rocksalt after walking past many times to go to the harbour I booked a lunchtime, Well it didn’t disappoint Fantastic food fantastic people fantastic location definitely going back highly recommended.
Very good menu selection , service with just the right amount of attention, all the food was good and well presented. Great location on the terrace overlooking the harbour
Rock salt has long been one of my favourite restaurants due to the variety of dishes, the great atmosphere and the great service. My recent visit however will probably stop me from going back again. We waited 5 minutes to be even greeted my someone on arrival with no apology for the wait when a young lady arrived to seat us. It took over 10 minutes to be asked if we would like a drink. When the drinks arrived my glass of Prosecco had something floating in it - on further investigation they believed it was a string from the glass cleaning cloth. My mother’s coke was flat which was confirmed by the waiter who advised the gas needed changing. The food was good so no complaints there. After waiting 5 minutes for someone to collect the bill we decided to leave and nobody said goodbye or even acknowledged that we were leaving. There are far greater local seafood restaurants that are not as pretentious as it seems Rocksalt has become. Regardless whether it is lunch or dinner service should remain the same.
A really lovely lunch to celebrate my husbands birthday, he was even brought out a desert with candle and birthday message - a lovely surprise! thank you Rocksalt, always a lovely venue
Amazing! Would love to return in the future!! You could tell the food was fresh!
We were four friends celebrating our birthdays and we had a lovely time here at Rocksalt - we were welcomed by a lovely lady who had taken note of my request to be seated in the window so we could admire the amazing view out to sea. Our waiter for the evening was very pleasant and attentive and had a good sense of humour, the wine waiter was also very attentive - I love having my glass refilled for me. The food was excellent - presented nicely and very tasty, the bread and hummus at the start was great too. We were then treated to three Happy Birthday written dishes of orange sorbet - a nice touch. Will definitely be back again.
We visited Rocksalt as a family of 3. It was buzzy in the bar & restaurant. Service was good, the staff were very friendly & engaging without being overly attentive.
The food was of a good standard & I would definitely recommend/return.
Excellent lunch on a beautiful day by the sea!! Three course set lunch is good value for money!! Will come again!!
Amazing food , great service . It was a birthday lunch and the staff made it such a special day for us with surprise cakes . Will definitely be back.
One of the finest restaurants I’ve ever been to!!!
An excellent experience as always. Never yet been disappointed.
Food was delicious .
Staff we’re so friendly and helpful.
Went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and satisfied.
Food is quite expensive but I suppose you get what you pay for.
The view is stunning . Especially if you get a hot day and manage to get a table outside .
We drove around 50 mins to give the restaurant a try and we would definitely return.
Thank you for a lovely experience.
A most enjoyable meal at Rocksalt. We were a party of 4 for Sunday lunch, 2 with hearty appetites and 2 fussy eaters - everyone found something on the menu they liked. One of our party said the slip sole he had for his main course was the best fish he'd ever tasted. 2 of us shared the roast chicken which was so plentiful we had half left to be boxed up and taken home. The harbour looked lovely in the sunshine and there was a happy atmosphere with plenty of families and (well behaved) children. We also enjoyed the K from Kirwan wine having recently visited Chateau Kirwan in France.
Food and service was outstanding. Lovely restaurant, expensive but would highly recommend.
I’d only recommend if someone is already in the area. We travelled from a distance and whilst the food was delicious and staff very friendly, the service was very slow. We had to catch someone’s eye to clear our table and order dessert and by then we’d been waiting a good 20 mins to half hour since finishing. The noise level was so high we couldn’t hear each other across the table which was a shame.
The food and the ambiance were good. The views were lovely but the service was outstanding.
We had an amazing meal at Rockaalt. The service was great and the food was exceptional
Great location. Great food. Great service. Bit too noisy but it was Friday and the place was packed. We'll try on a different night or perhaps lunch
Great evening! everything was great from the moment we walked in, they made sure to accommodate our request, which was super kind. Staff was attentive, but not intrusive, food absolutely fantastic! We had a little feast- we were sharing starters then mains. We had a great time and enjoyed everything. Thank you Rocksalt!
Food was excellent, beautiful setting. Worth a visit.
Whilst the food was excellent the restaurant was busy and we were next to a large group who were noisy at times. The staff were good, very knowledgeable about the food and wine, however we did have to wait for service on occasion due to the number of tables. Overall though the quality of the food was sufficiently good to ensure we return.
Very attentive staff , imaginative menu well delivered ... excellent value for money
Perfect evening, for an early celebration. The team were particularly good, not only attentive but friendly welcoming and just nice to be around.
Fantastic birthday lunch , look forward to our next visit
We stayed two nights in the Rock Salt rooms and all three of breakfast, lunch and dinner were 5 star! Genuinely we thought everything about the restaurant was faultless. We WILL be coming back!
A most enjoyable lunch with excellent service. An impressive wine list.
Better service than last time. Left waiting to be shown to our table. Bill took a while to come
We eat there a lot and as always the ambience is great, the staff are attentive and the food is really good. Now working out when we can go again!
Fabulous. Food is faultless, service pretty good. To be fair, we visited on the hottest bank holiday ever, anybody working should be cut some slack and given a medal.
This really is a special place. Took my partner for lunch as a birthday treat and had a fabulous meal overlooking the harbour in the sunshine. Bit pricey but food, wine, service all exquisite so didn't mind. Would highly recommend for a special occasion.
Ambiance, Food & Staff
Telephone answering system to long winded.
Hoivered by the door on arrival for 5 mins being passed being ignored by several staff. First impressions can make or break an evening.
Food delicious but a bit too much salt on eveything
Second visit to Rocksalt and had a lovely evening and enjoyed drinks on terrace in the sun which was a bonus. Super busy evening and as we were near entrance lots to see but didn’t impact on our night ! Looking forward to our next visit
The food is the star of the show though the setting is lovely too
The staff were very attentive and polite. We arrived early and were accommodated accordingly. The food was very good although I did find the choice on the menu was small. Value for money? Only for a special occasion and the dishes were small. Having been, I probably will not return.
Absolutely bloody Fantastic as always!!!
Lovely restaurant in great location with views across the harbour
Smart cocktail bar and busy vibrant restaurant with excellent locally caught seafood
Totally at ease from start to finish. Excellent staff provided a friendly and professional service to the wonderful, fresh food against one of the prettiest backdrops around. It was so good we went back a few days later.
Always outstanding, food exceptional, outstanding service, great location.
We wished to take a very great friend out to celebrate a special and significant birthday and their choice was Rocksalt. As others have continued to enjoy the experience and we have read many accolades, we booked safe in the knowledge that it would be a memorable experience. However, there were many issues that should not be present in a not inexpensive restaurant.
We sat down to lunch at 1.15pm on a lovely sunny mid-week August day when the tide was in; everything in prospect looked really promising. The website cites ‘A wealth of Choice’ and ‘Something for Everyone’. We were a party of four in a dining room that was less than half full; the problems started with only one skate wing available in the set menu lunch; the only other options were a vegetarian dish, a dish based on sausages and a dish featuring anchovy. Surely a seaside restaurant noted for its fish should have offered us an alternative fish dish but, bizarrely: no. During the lunch we drank two carafes of wine; neither was offered for smelling/ tasting approval to confirm it was not flawed.
When the food arrived, the portions were of a size that would suit a multi-course tasting menu; for a three course lunch they were mean. However, the vegetarian dish which promised chick pea patties did not, in fact none was present; it was just a bowl of either sweet potato or pumpkin cubes in a curry sauce, which had the texture of cotton wool, accompanied by couscous.
My wife, had kindly opted to have the vegetarian dish as the rest of the party did not like anchovy or the vegetarian option. We had all hoped to eat fish in a fish restaurant!
The puddings were all delicious if a little on the small side.
As I have already mentioned, this was a ‘special and significant’ birthday celebration for a very great friend. We left more than underwhelmed and extremely disappointed.
