It was a Sunday Lunch time and although it was not over busy with plenty of spare tables, we had to wait a while for the drinks waitress, then the waiter to order our food took a while too. The food took longer than expected to come as well. Then other customers and ourselves found cutlery missing along with condiments to eat our food.
My favourite lunch venue prior to travelling to France
Lovely food as always. Three course Sunday lunch is great value. One thing I particularly like about Rocksalt is that their carafes of their cheapest wines (both red and white) are very drinkable. Yes, there's a lovely wine list, but unless you're pushing the boat out for a special occasion there's no need to go beyond the standard carafes.
My husband and I have been to Rocksalt a few times now so decided to take our daughter & boyfriend for her Birthday.... they were blown away by the food, we enjoy everything about it location, service, food and the staffs knowledge about wines and the dishes they serve so for us it’s the place to go, suffice it to say they will 100% be returning 😊
Lovely place. Well looked after. Could have stayed there all day.
Definitely going back.
Thank you for making it special.
View is matchless and the food was superb. Service was good but not outstanding however the overall experience was extremely enjoyable, especially on a sunny day.
Amazing venue and ambience - food exceptional if not slightly small portions for price
Amazing! Fresh ingredients, delicate flavours, a creative menu, superb cooking and friendly attentive staff. Not overbearing and very professional. What more do you need? I will definitely go back.
Staff brilliant food good breakfast very good rooms fantastic
Beautiful view overlooking Folkestone Harbour. We couldn't decide on wine and the help given and the recommendation was spot on. Food was all very good quality. The waiting staff were friendly and understood the menu. It is our local go-to restaurant we frequently visit and it must say something if we keep going back.
Staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was prompt and delicious.
We had a lovely evening, the service and staff were excellent!
Just one small criticism the buttered greens were underdone. I like my veg crunchy but they were tough, other than that is was a lovely evening on your terrace.
Rocksalt was, as ever, excellent! Brought a friend who was visiting from Australia. Always dependably first class.
The food was outstanding, well presented, hot and very delicious. It took and extremely long time for the staff to take our food order, in fact we had to ask twice to be served. The waiting staff are excellent but it was very busy and hard for them to keep up.
Spur of the moment booking, having wanted to visit for sometime. Food was superb, very busy lunch service, unfortunately, they were short staffed which resulted in delays with service, inaccurate ordering. However, we would return as the food was delicious. We liked that additional condiments etc were home made.
Food was amazing and the view is brilliant. We had the Sunday roast with the biggest Yorkshire puddings I’ve ever seen! Next time we have to try the fish. Thanks
Great location, service and starters.
White wine was not chilled and we were told to leave in ice bucket for a while!
Huss Vindaloo tough and inedible.
Salt and Pepper squid overcooked and rubbery.
Tomahawk steak unavailable.
However, after letting the restaurant know our problems, we were contacted the next day and the Manager could not of been more apologetic. We were offered compensation which was appreciated. Although our experience was not what we had hoped, I will put it down to bad luck and would return to have a second go. Excellent customer service! Thank you
As soon as we had walked in we were treated as 5 star guests , it was my daughters 40th and they even provided a pudding with candles . The food was amazing with lots of oohs and ahhhs as it came out. We will visit again for sure 😀😀
A game of 2 halves. The restaurant was spot on with excellent service and fantastic food. But the bar upstairs for your pre-dinner drink lets it down. The G&T wasn't measured and it was basically a very expensive glass of tonic. The tables weren't kept clean enough and the bar staff didn't know they had crisps behind the bar before I pointed them out. In a posh place like this where you pay a premium a small bar snack should be complimentary and automatically given out. BUT restaurant is still top notch.
Wonderful experience. You're always slightly nervous when you go somewhere that has a great reputation...but Rocksalt more than lived up to the promise. Great (and friendly) service with a fab recommendation on wine, outside table and a nice touch to remember it was our anniversary. Food was amazing - the shared ray wing was a thing of beauty. Loved every minute of it and will be back. Yes it's expensive for Kent. But wow, for a treat it's definitely worth it!
Rocksalt has always been a fabulous restaurant. This time the service wasn’t quite up to standard . The waitress was just a bit intrusive , we had to chase our coffees as they had forgotten them . It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t up to the normal standard .
Lovely service great food and location. Cocktail before dinner looking over the harbour. Will definitely come again
Nice restaurant! Good food! Will be back soon again
New favourite restaurant, top class service, food and setting. Don’t change a thing. Well done you guys
The food is very good, the service excellent, the location stunning - with brilliant harbour views. Ask for a window table or, if the weather is good, to eat on the outside balcony
We had heard that this was one of the better South East coast fish restaurants so booked for our Anniversary, I particularly was looking forward to the “Folkestone Fish Stew” and ordered this as a starter....I received a French style fish soup with rouille and some generic grated cheese, my husband had the chicken liver pate and found it bland.
I ordered monkfish for my main and this arrived buried in an extremely spicy sauce that made it inedible. However my husband ordered a medium rare steak....this arrived medium to well done so we asked for it to be replaced..,the Maitre said that he thought the steak was perfect and we could pay for another. At this point I asked to see the “Chef”, when the “Chef” came to the table I was told abruptly that I did not know what I was talking about, the steak had left the kitchen medium rare and would only be substituted with payment. I am Cordon Bleu qualified and an ex Gambero Rosso reviewer with a reputation amongst Chefs in Italy as a “buona forchetta” I was so angered that I found myself messaging Mark Sargeant At 04:30 and am yet awaiting a reply.
Sadly I can not recommend a restaurant in a stunning location with access to prime ingredients purely on the arrogance of the “Chef”.
Great location and views of the harbour as the sun went down. Relaxed but attentive staff. Well thought out menu focused on local produce including meat as well as the catch of the day.
Lovely fresh fish. Great menu options. My husband loved the huss curry & I loved the bbq monkfish. Service superb
Not our first visit and certainly won’t be our last. Had the Sunday lunch special. Amazing smoked salmon mousse to start and then superb rare roast beef with all the trimmings. A carafe of a decent red wine and choice of desserts. What’s not to like for £90 for two including service?
Good food lovely friendly staff
Beautiful position of restaurant
This was our first time at Rocksalt and we will definitely be returning. Simple, delicious starters such as fresh radishes with anchovy mayonnaise and homemade taramasalata were exceptionally good. We both had fish for our main courses - the cod was super fresh and absolutely delicious. My husband had the Huss Vindaloo which was, he said, delicious but slightly too hot. Puddings were good but we should have stopped after our main course, but greed got the better of us. Service was brilliant. Every single person who served us was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and seemed to enjoy their job, which makes a big difference. I’m really looking forward to going again.
No salt or pepper on the table, waiter forgot to bring bread and not sure we received fries - looked like chips. However was a lovely treat to go There, the view was amazing and will definitely return.
Impressed with the food.
We arrived about 30 minutes early for our table booking and had a drink on the roof top bar which had great few although some young ladies were out celebrating some thing and were a bit loud and larey which wasn't good for our two young sons to hear. Anyway we moved down stair and shown to our table and the service was excellent, food arrived in a timely manor and was excellent, the attention to detail was excellent, the view and vibre of the resturant was brilliant and we would strongly recommend making a reservation.
It was lovely. As expected fantastic quality fish. Definitely decided that sea bream was the best starter. Wonderful flavour, freshest fish ever and great Asian flavours. I could have eaten so much more. The mussels were good and flavoursome but ask for more bread. For mains we had sea trout and mackerel. The latter was wonderful. The former very good. Lots of flavour in both although we wondered if one really was sea trout based on the colour of the meat.
I love this place and definitely would recommend. A little expensive but quality of ingredients and service is wonderful.
Lovely meal in a nice setting. We were able to sit outside and enjoy beautiful food. My only complaint was the Apricot Bakewell Tart as the pastry was very hard. Apart from that the food was marvellous with friendly unatrusive service.
Thoroughly enjoyed excellent lunch and, as we ate from the set menu at, I think, £22 for two courses, fantastic value. Please pay attention to acoustics, though. Noisy ...
We had booked the table as an anniversary meal for the two of us on a Tuesday lunch time.
There were no more than 2 tables with a few people on them and a couple of people eating outside, yet we waited 20 min for a drink which didn't arrive until I challenged the waiter. The food was of a very good quality and no fault can be noted there, yet at the end of the meal we ordered a couple of coffee's and guess what nothing arrived and all the staff disappeared, so we decided to call it a day and go directly to the bar to settle the bill. We were then presented with a 12.5% gratuity on top of the full price, which I refused to pay due to the poor service. After some discussion and apologies the gratuity was waived and a couple of complementary coffees were offered and accepted.
I have to say having read previous reviews I was expecting a lot more bearing in mind how quiet the restaurant was and the amount of staff that were on one moment and then gone the next.
The sign of a good restaurant is continuity and this was wholly lacking.
Everyone working at the restaurant exuded happiness which manifested in very friendly service. The food was outstanding and to sit eating fish on a harbour, where the ingredients are literally landed that day is unique. Fabulous!!
We thoroughly enjoyed eating and staying at Rocksalt. The staff were really friendly, the food was delicious and the location and views were lovely. The apartment was really nice with great facilities as well.
Breakfast the next day was the best breakfast I've eaten! Looking forward to going back in the future.
Excellent food and friendly attentive staff. Made us feel like valued customers and the food was faultless.
If your looking for quality at a reasonable price with top staff....the Rocksalt is the place to go.
