Been to Rolys a number of times but unfortunately this was disappointing, the service was to say the least not great, the staff kept getting the tables mixed up and struggled to provide a level you would expect. My previous experience would have been absolutely 5 star this unfortunately was 3 at a push !
maybe we were just unlucky!
Lovely Sunday lunch with family. Food excellent. Staff friendly. Going here for years and can never fault it
Unfortunately this was a really disappointing meal upstairs. I have went to Roleys many times as I live locally. The food was very average, not very warm and overpriced for the quality of it. The 3 others in my party were very disappointed. At 9.45pm staff members began moving furniture around us as we ate our meal this was a really disappointing meal (upstairs) as we moved from the terrace as the menu was tapas. The restaurant did not have my booking when we arrived. They were v good about it and fashioned up a table for us. However that meant we were in a slightly odd location and almost in the way. The food was good and the service friendly but it wasn’t the usual high standard . I have eaten in Rolys terrace many times and really enjoyed it. This just wasn’t quite as good
Given two different menus.
Vegetarian options very poor and no separate menu.
A Sunday menu was advertised online but they did not do this.
Asked on the off chance for mashed potato (wasn’t on the menu but they had it, why not put it on the menu?)
Asked for two sides of buttered broccoli and green beans (received one side of broccoli swimming in water and one side of curried mashed carrot which was freezing cold and was sent back) and a random side of baby boiled potatoes?
Desserts did not come with what was stated on the menu.
Charged for 4 coffees when we had 2.
Really only ate because we were hungry but definitely not worth the money!
Shared this all politely with one of the waiting staff who was never to be seen again.
Generally don’t complain but it really was a very poor experience and we were disappointed because we were celebrating some good news.
Had previously bought takeaway coffee from here earlier in the week and were very impressed with the ambience and decor which is why we choose here for Sunday lunch but safe to say we won’t be back next time we visit the area.
Lovely food and great service.
Definitely come back
Terrace was lovely and warm
We arrived for our reservation only to be told they did have a record of the reservation and were turned away by the rude front of house staff.
Very enjoyable. Great selection of food and very reasonably priced.
The food was nice but expensive for what it was, I don’t mind paying the restaurant prices upstairs but this was very much a cafe.
The staff were lovely but very disjointed. We were asked several times by different staff did we order, asked several times if we were finished but than experienced slow service when ordering wine, dessert, and the bill, all had to be asked for again.
Over nice but I wouldn’t go back to the terrace ,
Food super as always. Terrace is gorgeous. Service a little amateurish. Thought butter packets and packet ketchup a little cheap and brought down the tone. Not a “caf”.
No dedicated wait staff for our table- was hard to keep track of who we should flag down.
The red wine was not the right temperature- sent back the first cold glass of Malbec and was told all the bottles are in the same place so the second glass might not be he right temp…and it wasn’t! But because of the merry go round of waiters to our table it didn’t seem to phase either waiter who brought us the wine.
I booked the outdoor heated terrace to find that it was in fact an indoor enclosed space with windows marginally open. Service was very slow
While there were plenty of staff there seemed to be confusion each time we ordered a glass of wine or tea as to which table it was to go to with staff walking around the room before we could get their attention. The staff were all very courteous it just seemed there was a loss of communication between the ordering and the arriving of same.
Fine extension to Roly’s reputation - perfect for lunch 😃
Food was fine but bland (chicken wings), way over priced and terrace was packed out. Waiting staff constantly passing up and down with minimal room. Different menus between terrace and upstairs, limited menu options. Service was OK, had to ask for coffee three times. Won't be rushing back, not value for money I'm afraid.
We really envied our dinner,.. The only thing I would say is we didn't feel the heated part.. We got quite cold while eating.. Food was lovely and service was excellent! Just a little more heat please!!!
Unfortunately one of our party was very unwell after our lunch, which was an extremely enjoyable afternoon which was tainted by the subsequent sickness. It was reported back to the restaurant in the evening time. While the ambience and service was good, the menu is pricey and particularly if you wish to have a starter and main course.
Thank you for your review GerR. We have been able to speak following your telephone conversation, we have investigated in full.
It was terrific as always. Thanks. We will be back
Over priced food, very small portions, not good quality
I had friends in from the U.S., and took them to Roly’s. They loved it! Roly’s is a “Go To” for me from now on. Thanks!
Roly's is a longtime favourite and every time I visit it fails to delight!
The new covered outdoor terrace is very well designed to a high spec and we were very comfortable and felt well distanced from the other diners and tables.
While they had a full house the staff were discreet but also very attentive and we were so well looked after, as always. The standard of the food was excellent and I felt we got good value for our meal too. There is a reason the place is always packed and difficult to get a booking in as it really is exceptional!
I will be back again very soon!
The standard expected for Rolys is certainly lower when you dine at the terrace. Too many trainees, and the prices are still at a level that you should expect a high standard of service. Mediocre at best, and very disappointed.
Delay getting to table, delay getting order taken, wrong menus replaced, delay getting wine, fish served but had to ask for the chips which had been ordered.
Services poor, food OK, wine poor value.
Noisy but a lovely environment otherwise.
The new outdoor dining in Rolys is amazing highly recommend it
Our impression was that the staff were under pressure and overall it was not the dining experience we rembered or had hoped for.
Fantastic new outside terrace serving great food. Great to see the restaurant so busy on a Friday night.
The new outdoor dining area is fantastic. The decor is fab. Food was lovely. I would suggest a little stuffing on the rotisserie chicken sandwich to enhance the flavour and salad dressing on the leaves on the side of the plate.
Very good. Great food. Very happy with service and meal
The new annexe is truly beautiful and a lovely addition yet still “outdoors”. Lots of space between tables and feels like indoors. However the experience is nothing like upstairs.
The menu is lovely but more limited and none of the gorgeous treats I associate with Roly’s like the homemade breads or carrot side dish. Side dishes limited to greens.
Service is definitely nothing like upstairs …. Drinks ordered not brought, rude interruptions to take the plates, plates taken away too soon etc. Serving staff appear very much as bored students with no training rather than professional career staff like I associate with upstairs.
This really is the main downfall for me. This is what always made Roly’s stand out from the others.
Enjoyed the food but the rotisserie chicken was too large a portion. One was ending for 2 people. That wasn’t the only issues. Otherwise it was excellent
Lovely food with something to suit everyone , great service and a surprise birthday treat for my Dad! Very airy and comfortable terrace/ garden room. Will definitely be back.
Poor service and average food
The food is beautiful and they are trying but they appear short staffed and the wait staff are weaker than expected. We had to ask multiple times to order drinks and dessert which meant things arrived at weird times and when we ordered food we could have been told more about some of the dishes like sliders don't come with chips because it left people at the table hungry which was a pity. Overall the outdoor terrace is beautiful and food is beautiful but room to improve on service
Overall good but many servers around it not a lot of service. Didn’t know how to make a dirty martini. Seemed chaotic amongst the many staff but waited a long time for things.
Good time here. Tables could do with being a bit more spaced out in terrace area Staff friendly and approachable.
Good food, good service, would recommend to a friend.
Celebrating leaving cert results with family.
Good value and tasty food with good service
We had a lovely meal the other night. We will be going back again.
Super meal excellent service most enjoyable experience and good value.
Well done and thank you.
