Rosa Mexicano - DC
Rosa Mexicano is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in WDC. The food is fresh, varied, and beautifully prepared. The guacamole is the best in the area. If you order nothing else, get that. While you can get tacos and quesadillas, these often have interesting variations that take them beyond the ordinary. The current menu features dishes from different areas of Mexico, a new and tasty approach. Rosa Mexicano is across the street from the Capitol One Arena (formerly the Verizon Center), and very close to the Shakespeare Theatre. Due to the frequency of big events at those two venues, dinner reservations are highly recommended.
Very poor service. It was busy, so I tried to give our server the benefit of the doubt but it was truly inexcusable
Very loud, bad food, not worth the $80
The service was slow, drinks did not come immediately... portions very small
Decent food and great service. Nothing too spectacular but solid spot after a long day.
Rosa Mexicano never disappoints! Great service, great food and knowledgeable staff made for a wonderful evening with my husband. We’ll be back!
Both the food and service at Rosa Mexicano are terrific!
This has been my go-to pre-Capitals spot for sometime. The service is quick and reliable; the food is good and creative; the guacamole is killer; and they know their way around a range of margaritas. Good, reliable spot and a favorite in the Arena neighborhood.
Service was awful. Our waiter disappeared half way thru lunch. Really! No one could find him. Ruined the meal. Did not appear to have manager, only a hostess who was agreeable, but unable to help. A terrible way to run a reataurant.
Guacamole was very good. Otherwise food is mediocre for the prices they charge. My rice and beans side tasted like it was from the bottom of the pot and reheated. Service was excellent. But i'd rather go to Lauriol Plaza for Mexican as it tastes fresh.
Great food, but right before Capital One events the place is busy and service can be slow. Had to wait 20 minutes after eating to get check and pay bill. Waiters are running around while managers appear to be standing around front desk. Managers could be more helpful by assisting with the checks and while waiters are busy taking other tables orders.
We dined there pre-theater. the server brought me the wrong entree and immediately realized it was in error. She then brought me the correct entree, three enchiladas. However, she brought me two beef and a chicken. I ordered one beef and two cheese. I was not happy and there was no time for a fix. All in all, I was not pleased, In fairness, the restaurant did not charge me for the entree, correctly so,
Really really great authentic Mexican food in a cute, intimate setting! Does get a bit loud though bc there’s a bar and the restaurant is open-concept
Guacamole is excellent- a must have. Main courses are more limited and rather expensive for what you get. Drinks good but also pricey. Very noisy in main room, quieter in the back room.
Food was great! The guacamole is amazing!
Excellent margaritas! Our server was exceptional. He allowed us to have a leisurely dinner while being attentive to our needs. Food is always well served and appetizing.
Delicious meal and excellent wait staff
We always enjoy great service at Rosa, especially if we can get a table with Douglas. The food is always excellent and the La Unica Margarita is our favorite!
Food wasn’t served hot, bottle of sparkling water had no effervescence, service was robotic and unengaged. Guacamole was delicious but is it asking too much for unbroken tortilla chips? New York and Boston dining exceeds this location.
Almost tasted Mexican.
I struggle with this review. Rosa Mexicano is a nice place. The staff was helpful, friendly and prompt. We were disappointed when arriving though because it was a 7:30 pm reservation (on a Monday) and a beautiful night so we asked if we could sit outside and they said the patio was now closed. The guacamole was delicious, but they say 'table-side"and although we could see a guy making it inside the dining room it was not table side. Not really a big deal, but table side items are a fun part of the environment. They also have great salsa and all the drinks we ordered were good (mojito and red sangria). The main problem we had was with the entree menu. Their menu recently changed and we didn't notice until we were already there. The new menu didn't have a couple items we were looking forward to ordering. Two of us had the tres enchiladas and the other ordered a salad. The entrees were just ok for all of us. We are accustom to real Mexican food (so we did not expect Tex-Mex) but the food just did not seem to be worth the high dollar price. I might go back sometime just for salsa, guacamole and drinks before a game but not for dinner.
Like the new menu; however, surprised by the drink prices and the small glasses they come in.
We sat at window and had amazing guac and yummy salads!
A good experience overall. Only complaints was that the serving size of the taco was smaller than expected and the churros were undercooked.
Very nice setting and service was great. Food also good, good for any special occasions.
The service and food was great. We both had enough to take home.
Our food was over sauced. We both had salads and they each had way too much dressing. Guac is always the best move at Rosa
Really good chocolate cake
First time lunching at Rosa, have been here for dinners and bar side eating. Very impressed with the polite, quick service, perfect for work week lunching. As always the guacamole was fresh and tasty, and shrimp tacos hearty, tasty, and nicely presented.
I am a local but I dined with two out-of-town guests. I ordered the pescado primavera (fish Veracruz style), one guest ordered the trio of enchiladas and the other guest ordered carnitas. We also ordered the guacamole which is made to order tableside. Everything was prepared perfectly. The service was impeccable. We ordered drinks and dessert. The churros were warm and delicious. Our waiter was friendly and while he seemed to be very busy he was timely and gracious. The restaurant was not too busy as it was a Tuesday evening but every table near us was seated. The noise level was not so much as that you could not have a conversation.
Thoroughly enjoy Rosa Mexicano in NYC, gave this DC location a second try after the first one a few months back was horrible. The service was better, still not on point I would expect at this price point. Food was full of flavor, drinks were less than desirable.
Food was delicious and plentiful. Only service complaint, wrong drink brought and forgot appetizer.
The weekend brunch options are fantastic. I'll definitely come back with friends.
Very fresh and authentic experience. Great food quality and service was on point as well.
This is one of the most consistent Mexican restaurants in the city. The food is uniformly solid, with the carnitas and the mushroom tacos standing out as particularly strong; the latter are one of the better vegetarian Mexican entrees around. Drinks are well-mixed and strong, too!
The consistency of Rosa's performance is its own virtue. You're probably not going to have the best Mexican food of your life here, but you *definitely* won't have the worst. In certain contexts - family visiting from out of town, business meals, etc. - that's all we're looking for, making Rosa's affordable, reliable cooking an easy call.
The food quality has slipped considerably over the last couple of years. The enchilada mole was beautiful looking but was just a little one note. The Camerones quesadillas were not very elevated. I love the restaurant but I’m afraid it’s on the decline.
Our wait person, Nancy, was fantastic - attentive, great sense of humor and she went out of her way to prepare a nice presentation plate, with a candle, for some cupcakes we had bought and brought with us to celebrate our daughter's birthday. At our request, they skipped the whole sombrero happy birthday thing, which my daughter really appreciated. :)
Food was fantastic, too and there were mostly non-drinkers at the table, so the mocktail offerings were particularly welcomed by our group.
Can't wait to come back again!
Food and atmosphere was great! Only downside is we had to wait for 20 minutes even though we had a reservation.
the food was not as tasty as I expected. I can cook better than that.
Food was good. Service was a little slow but that was probably due to a concert that evening and larger crowd than normal.
