how i wish i had read the previous reviews before booking this, as the last few stated new owners and not very good.
I'm sorry to say i have to agree, i was desperate for this to be a good meal as you cannot beat traditional steakhouse in the heart of London.
we have visited many of London's great steakhouses over the last few years, and this one has to be the very bottom.
i should have realized that when on a Saturday evening all other restaurants are booked but Rowleys is only a third full.
you live and learn.
Excellent food and very friendly & professional service. Slightly quiet on arrival (7:15 on a Saturday night) but gradually became more lively towards 8:30-8:45.
Would definitely return.
New management and food deteriorated markedly
OMG, what’s happen. It was one of my favourite dinning places but seems the new management got it absolutely wrong.
We had starters, scallops ( you will get 1 scallop) for £18 and Tomatoes and Mozzarella (you will get one tiny slice of mozzarella and some tomatoes) for £14. The fillet steak (£32 each) been tiny, approx.. 100g….
Overall, not worth the money at all, sadly… I did like the place…. Before..
The food was delicious. They didnt have our normal steak and chicken with fries but what we did have was lovely
Absolutely appalling. Waited 90 minutes for starter which did not arrive Then told restaurant closed because Chef had decided not to cook.
Wines - poor selection and out of reason prices - eg a Pinotage at £ 100 per bottle
or Chardonnay a snip at £ 150.
This restaurant is under new management and isnt long for this life - quite the worst experience I have ever had
The restaurant is under new management who have done away with all the things that made Rowleys unique, no more sizzling steaks cooked at the table, no more ample french fries no bearnaise or peppercorn sauce with the steaks. The young man who served us said that there had been a lot of disappointed regular customers, and we were two of them. The wine list was vastly overpriced, we felt that £140 for an Argentinian Malbec was a bit steep, and we missed the Berry Bros Good Ordinary Claret! This has always been one of our very favourite restaurants for twenty five years but we shall not be going back. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!
The restaurant was closed despite confirming booking
As wonderful as ever, Cote de boeuf and bottomless hot frites. My husband and I love this place and were here for my birthday. A shame that it was so quiet due to CLOVID worries, we were glad to be there supporting the restaurant.
Great value meal and still one of the best steaks in London. Nothing fancy just a good old fashion meal
Better for lunches than dinner
Excellent as always, never had a bad meal in Rowley’s
Always excellent here, a great venue to do business
The steak were amazing. The dining room and service are excellent too
Had Avery enjoyable and relaxing casual meal, service, seating, staff. All wonderful. Food was very good and overall a quality dining experience. Looking forward to our next visit.
Great Food and even better service!
Only disappointing aspect was a lack of their excellent cheesecake on the dessert menu! Steak was excellent as always, service prompt and polite, a lovely place to have lunch or dinner. P.S. Chocolate ice cream was delicious...
We all had the Ribeye steak which were cooked to perfection. We had deserts, 2 of us had the Rice Pudding and 2 of us had the tarte tatin. We can honestly recommend both deserts. Service was very friendly and efficient
Excellent food and superb service. Thank you for your part in making our anniversary special. We will be back
Generally good but they forgot to bring out our entree.
Delicious food. Especially the Chocolate bombe on the pudding menu, please keep it as a permanent edition to the menu!
Rowley's Restaurant is consistently reliable and enjoyable.
I was very pleased to find a place where we could book a steak dinner deal for 2 (£47 for Chateaubriand, a side, two sauces, and unlimited fries) on a Saturday night with only a few days notice.
I do not understand why they did not have my reservation down in their books but I showed them my confirmation email and after that, there were no problems.
It is cute and simple but elegant inside, and thankfully not too loud even on a fairly full Saturday. The servers were polite though not overly friendly and it would have been nice if our water jug had been filled.
The steak was delicious, with flavourful sauces, tasty fried tomatoes, yummy (not greasy) fries, and a great side dish of spinach. We bought a bottle of the Chilean merlot which was perfect to go with our meal.
Overall, I would recommend this place to others especially if there is a deal like the one we got.
I wish the setting had been nicer. Will not rush back.
Such a poor experience on Valentines night. Staff (serving and a chef) constantly going outside to smoke in full view of diners, coming back in and serving food. Had to ask for everything as the service was utterly poor. The food was not worth the money. We were served our main course and had to ask twice for the chips whilst our steak went cold. Our glasses for our drinks were served piping hot! I frankly do not understand why this restaurant has a good reputation.
A mediocre and overpriced Valentine’s Day meal at this no frills restaurant. Had to chase our meal after an hour of waiting and other customers who arrived long after us had already been served. Their famed 28 day steak wasn’t worth the wait, burying it under french fries couldn’t hide it’s blandness and poor quality, almost laughable if I wasn’t paying £35! Non-existent customer care, the surly waitress couldn’t understand the difference between a glass or carafe, staff didn’t care or ask if you wanted another drink, or how your meal was, you got dessert menus slapped on the table and the bill presented away from you. Staff spent much time standing in the centre serving area looking angry with each other or shaking their heads. We paid and left, no one said goodbye or thank you, I was so glad to get out of there. Really underwhelming and overpriced experience. Won’t be back. Shame.
Great steak but service was a bit erratic and very expensive
Not impressed at all and very expensive for what received. The starters were poor, the steak was good but the unlimited fries were non existent! When they did turn up we had already eaten our rare steak as it had turned to very well done on the table top heater. Not the best Valentine's night meal
Restaurant about a quarter full, but still seated in the chilly zone near the door. Food fine but not good enough to justify the price, and service very poor. Waiters scruffy and inattentive. Never great to see a packet of cigarettes hanging out of a waiter’s pocket.
Been eating at Rowley’s for 17 years but it’s definitely living on past glories. I’ll think twice before going again.
Very nice meal with my wife. Friendly and attentive staff
A fantastic experience all round with great food and a lovely atmosphere
I have been visiting Rowley's Restaurant for over three decades - and never disappointed. Yet this time, I am afraid the food was well off the mark, the steak was hard, chewy and gristly, and although I asked for rare, what I got was a greyish coloured piece of meat. My 30-year old son, also a frequent user over the years, asked for medium to well done, and complained to me his steak was also sadly below par.
The food was a bit of a disappointment, frankly, although the service provided by the Slovakian waitress was faultlessly good and her smiles and professional attitude appreciated.
I will probably give Rowley's one more chance... and then if the food still fails, then I will end what has been a beautiful relationship so at least the meories stay good.
If you like traditional English food this is the place to go.
Love their steak, and their unlimited chips which was also good, and the ambience, great.
Excellent meal excellent attentive friendly staff.... Will be sure to visit again !!
Fantastic food , lovely atmosphere and outstanding service
A very enjoyable meal in an excellent location. This is an ideal restaurant for a meal prior to the theatre and I have used it a number of times
Excellent steak. and good value wine. Polite staff great atmosphere.
Great service and great food
We had an excellent dinner at Rowley’s. The food was delicious and the service was attentive. Their Roquefort sauce is lovely and endless fries made the teens delighted. Will definitely be back.
3rs time of being here
