We were on a Family Weekend Break the Staff were very friendly especially the Bar Staff
I booked in here for Sunday dinner. The roast beef was amazing, the Yorkshire pudding was huge but light with roast potatoes and a good variety of vegetables, I would thoroughly recommend the Royal Oak, but it can get busy on a Sunday (no wonder with food this good) so it’s worth booking.
Excellent service - delicious food and even went out of their way to make a strawberry milk for our little girl when it wasn’t on the menu!
Waited 45 mins for starters and in that period saw two other tables come in after us and got their food and finished it! A very short apology for the wait when it did eventually arrive. A gesture of a free drink (we were all on soft drinks) would have gone a long way to compensate.
Amazing staff and venue. We give it 5 stars on everything!
Thank you for such a lovely time.
And thank you also for being so dog friendly :)
Great food and atmosphere. Great little spot to eat. Wise to book ahead as it is tiny like most pubs.
Good standard "pub grub" at a good price. Lovely small room upstairs in atmospheric pub.
Lovely pub/restaurant nice and cosy . Friendly staff but very busy the good was delicious well cooked and well presented The pork fillet was excellent and there was quite a large serving . It was New years eve so we expected a delay but we waited a hour for our food so the drinks were flowing
It was nice pub with a good atmosphere but the experience was spoilt by the service. The serving girl gave the wrong information about the menu which resulted in the wrong meals being served for a few of us in our group.
After reading about this pub on the internet and liking the menu, I booked a table for Friday night as we were going to York for the weekend. My husband and I were very disappointed with the food. I had hunters chicken which is one of my favourite dishes and it was not nice at all, it had a very strange taste which I think was the sauce which did not taste like a proper BBQ sauce, it was horrible. My husband went for bacon chops, also one of his favourites, these were just thick slices of bacon. I was very disappointed and would not go again.
We had such a lovely time - a friendly place with great food, and perfect for catching up with friends
An excellent small pub, good pub grub from a decent menu, and the service was excellent. Our party of eight was looked after extremely well. We would certainly eat there again.
Lovely staff, couldn't do enough for us. Good food and lovely cosy atmosphere. Would recommend for a Sunday lunch. Thank you!
We have visited here numerous times when visiting York. It has to be one of our favourite restaurants. Always lovely food, excellent service and love the ambience of the place. Be back next year!
Initially disappointed as I had wanted the tagline, which was not available. However, the girl who served us offered to speak to the chef as I did not want meat. I was served red snapper with a very tasty vegetable mash and really enjoyed my meal. My husband also enjoyed his meal. Service was excellent and would really recommend you try this place.
Food was lovely and good choice of meals. Service was a little slow and waitress didn’t seem to know much about food or drink choices. Also, we just had the main menu whereas the table next to us were given a lunchtime menu.
Glad we booked a table, very busy but, it was the first weekend of Christmas Markets.
Would recommend and we would go back.
Delicious food, attentive staff and lovely ambience.
Absolutely lovely place! Food and service was excellent will definitely return in the near future.
We dined upstairs in a very tastefully decorated room which was comfortable and cosy. Friendly staff served Us Sunday roast dinners all of which were lovely
Nice menu and reasonably priced
Willl definitely return and recommend to others ⭐️
Always excellent. Good food good beer & great staff. What more do you need !
The meal took about 45 minutes to arrive and when it did, it wasn't particularly hot. For the price, I would have expected bigger portions. In all, a mediocre roast dinner, not good value for money.
Food was very tasty, clearly homemade, and was served piping hot. We had lasagne, and burger and chips. The profiteroles for desert were delicious. We ate in 'the parlour', a very quiet cosy room upstairs. Will certainly go again when next in York.
Sunday lunch was great . Set menus , reasonable price and lovely food . Thankyou
Good for a pint, wouldn’t recommend the food. Went for Sunday lunch and the calamari was cremated, the beef and the Yorkshire puddings were over cooked
