The Royal Oak is a charming 19th century pub in the village of River near Dover in Kent. Formed from 18th century flint cottages we have been serving the village for over 150 years. A friendly warm welcome compliments our range of real ales, lagers, ciders and stout. From a morning coffee or hot chocolate to a late night spirit we will look after you. Come read the papers, enjoy a cool beer on a sunny afternoon in the garden or a warming cask ale in front of the fire on a winter's night. Whatever you prefer we hope to see you soon.

Excellent service, friendly, fast and helpful. Great roast lamb and vegetables, and starter of garlic mushrooms. Good value for money. Tasty adnam’s bitter. A cosy historic local pub.

I very rarely order roast in a pub as it is usually disappointing but this was delicious. Great roast beef, crisp potatoes and plenty of gravy. I would definitely recommend this pub for food!

Fantastic food and service from our local pub. We also discovered they had a beer garden up the steps to the rear, nice sunny spot. Highly recommended.

A good choice of food. The offers for a 2 or 3 course meal are good value for money.

Tried the Oak as recommended by a friend. Sunday lunch menu, limited but enough to please most people. Food was presented well and was of a good standard. Plenty of vegetables to go with the main course.
Was a little quiet and etmisphere a little lacking, but hopefully the trade will pick up and a buzz will be in the air..
overall I would say it was a good experience

Haven’t been here for some years but what a little gem of a local! Just met a couple of friends here for food and drinks. Service by Mandy was fab and it was nice to be able to have a conversation as well!!! So good we have booked again for next Friday 👍🏻

We really enjoyed our Sunday lunch, the food was very good and the staff were very attentive and welcoming. We shall certainly eat there again. It is good to see that the pub was full and dogs are welcome.

We spent a really enjoyable evening in the Royal Oak; they have a lively bar and eating area, then we were in a quieter but tasteful restaurant area, full of old character.
The staff were so friendly, very willing to help and make sure you had everything you needed. We felt they were interested in us as customers.
The food was very good and well presented.
If we went back to Hythe we'd definitely eat there!

This is the second time we have eaten here in the past few weeks and on both occasions the food has been fantastic. Had a lovely Sunday roast a couple of weeks ago with family and friends and found the food to be fantastic in particular the beef which was to die for. The past weekend visited on the Saturday evening and had the fish and chips which again was very good indeed. Cod portion was big with lovely crispy batter and the chips were amazing. Local singer Andy Lawrence was playing in the bar area and made for a very enjoyable evening. Will for sure be visiting again very soon.

This was the first time we had returned since the new owners have taken over. We had a great evening, the service was good and food great (especially the puddings according to the girls!!). In addition the entertainment was enjoyable, playing music from most genre's and era's.
