Jamaican restaurant and cocktail bar committed to real jerk, creative small plate dishes with a contemporary twist inspired by traditional Jamaican cooking, and rum. We look not to replicate the most expected aspects of its aesthetics, but to contextualise the island vibe through subtle nods to Jamaica’s iconic culture and lifestyle.
Don't normally leave reviews but wanted to say thanks to Rudie's for a lovely meal and a lovely time on Saturday night. The waiting staff were all a pleasure to interact with, the drinks were all great and the swordfish was cooked perfectly.
Plus, it has an easy, relaxed atmosphere. No rush, just a good time.
Big proportions, small menu but all really tasty. Order the ribs for starters along with rum punch. Staff friendly and warm. Took away a big doggy bag that tasted just as good the next day.
Very very nice try the pork
Food was the best Caribbean I’ve tasted (and I’ve tried a lot) better than cottons too which was my favourite before I tried Rudies. The lamb was incredible and the pork and the chicken!! The Mac and cheese was amaze and my fav of all the plantain was cooked to perfection. Music was good had a nice chilled vibe the staff were lovely and the cocktails were great. Our new fav spot!
My wife booked us a table a Rudies for 10pm as a surprise birthday meal (There was availability until 11pm according to opentable). When we arrived we were told the kitchen was closed and that was it... nothing else to say really apart from very disappointed.
Ok food. Could have been spicier. The rum cake was bad, really bad. Steep prices, not worth it but the atmosphere was nice. Stick with the small plates.
Sad experience for two evenings, mainly because the food was disappointing. The first visit I had Curry Goat. Gien that curry goat is meant to have a robust flavour, this was too limpid. The rice and peas was excellent. The second visit, I had the jerk pork (I had this dish on my first visit to Rudie's when it was newly opened, and enjoyed it)). This was a disaster. The dish arrived completely covered in what I understand was jerk sauce. The waitress initially tried to convince me that this was how the dish was always served. I disagreed because of my past experience. She offered an alternative. I choose the jerk chicken. It arrived and was tasteless. Again, these are meant to be robust dishes, this was not. I read that the chicken was marinated for 224 hours, this I doubt. Once you got beyond the skin, the meat was tasteless. Again, the rice and peas was excellent. Very very disappointed. I will not recommend Rudies again to my friends, as I would be too ashamed.
Love the food at Rudie's - only request would be if they did more fish & vegetarian options. No option to get Jerk if you don't eat meat - Jerk fish would be brilliant.
I had a good evening found you online was meant to go to levi roots.service a bit slow as restaurant wasn't full but ambients was nice rum punch wasn't true rum punch but ok curry mutton was made with love jerk chicken was nice good amount of spice jerk pork was more like pulled pork missing the jerk flovour but a good evening i will return thank you
Booked Rudie’s following a recommendation. Took my mum for mother’s day. Food was good. Hot, tasty (although a little salty) but generally good. Disappointingly was overshadowed by being overcharged with the restaurant not deducting the deposit they demanded off my final bill.
It’s a positive to have music playing in the background however we found it a little loud for the time of day. Ear plugs at the ready 😂
Great food as always but the service was terrible and the booking made through OpenTable was not honoured. As we arrived a table of four was given away to a walk in group in front of us, and then they said that they didn’t have space and couldn’t have contacted us to tell us that they couldn’t honour the booking. The four of us were sat at the bar as though we hadn’t made a booking, and sitting at the bar doesn’t really work for a group that size. Drinks also took 30 mins to arrive. Not up to their usual standard.
We came to Rudies two weekends in a row as we were so blown away by the food. The jerk chicken is amazing and all of the sides absolutely delicious. This weekend we went for the bottomless brunch - again, the jerk pork with poached eggs and bakes was unreal and the rum punch was so delicious. Also a great deal for a bottomless brunch, really good value. We thought it was a tiny bit cheeky that we were here for a birthday and were asked to move to the bar an hour into our booking to accommodate another group who needed our table. Was a little disappointing as we were celebrating a special occasion and I had specified in our booking that we would be there for bottomless brunch - so definitely an hour and a half at least.
Other than that the waitresses are so friendly and lovely, ambience is great and food is delicious. We will definitely be back!
great food (jerk lamb was amazing!)
will go back!
Reliably good.... jerk chicken is always a great bet.... recommended
This was a last minute booking after we left our original choice nearby because of slow service.
I really enjoyed the food and drinks here. Big portions with authentic Caribbean flavours. The service was quick and responsive.
Would have given 5 stars if the music wasn’t so loud; made conversation a bit challenging (it wasn’t thumping or anything but could have been turned down a level or two)
I would definitely revisit this restaurant though.
Incredible food, lovely service. Some of the tastiest jerk chicken I’ve had. Incredibly good value too.
Top place. Simple menu .aleays a good sign. Great food superbly done. Cool atmosphere great rum. Go goat curry.
Walked in to a warm welcome. Loved the atmosphere instantly.
The food had good variety and was delicious. Value for money is great, definitely be back soon. Wish we had gone sooner!!
The chicken was soo dry and lacked a lot of flavour the price was not worth it the food was not up to scrath at all
I enjoyed my first visit to Rudie's for my sons birthday. We all had a great done and received a nice welcome on entry.
Lovely ambience and courteous staff.
We all enjoyed food and I enjoyed cocktail called catch a fire(rum concoction)
Dessert of rum cake delicious
Yeaaaaahhhh... finally a West Indian I can happily recommend ! I'll be back.. even if it's just for the bammy.. that brought me right back to my childhood!
Rudie's is good. The jerk pork was a bit dry but I had the Pork Belly before and that was perfect. The jerk chicken is really good. Go the platter - you can't be disappointed. The sides are good and different. Price-wise I think it's reasonably priced and the service is excellent. I like the overall vibe. I would like the soundtrack to The Harder They Come to being playing constantly but that would probably annoy the hell out of the staff eventually. But I like it and as one fussy Londoner I would recommend it anyone who likes Caribbean food.
The food and service was great! Good knowledge of Jamaican food and drink. Waitress and host were able to discuss cuisine with confidence. Authentic food, great service. One suggestion for the restaurant is to play more reggae and less afrobeats.
First visit, between lunch and evening meal time. Busy with family/groups of friends. Great atmosphere, helped by the good music. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Asked the bar staff for more info re their cocktail ingredients, very well informed. The menu offers a great selection f or both starters and mains. We eventually chose the jerk chicken, curry goat, mac n'cheese with rice and peas. We were not disappointed. The chicken was succulent, the goat curry full of flavour. Looking forward to a return visit.
Good Jamaican food served in a fun setting. Nice cocktails. Pepper shrimp are HOT!
“Vegan platter” very bland, rice and beans were dry and I assume reheated.. boyfriends chicken wrap nothing special. Overall disappointing. Music and service was good.
À faire et refaire
Worst "Jamaican" food and customer service I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Staff were rude, orders were wrong, chicken was bland. Anyone who says "it's just like being in Jamaica" or similar almost certainly hasn't been to Jamaica, and certainly hasn't tried real Jamaican food. I wouldn't recommend this place to my enemy, let alone my friends.
Best Caribbean place I’ve been to for a meal!! I would recommend it to everyone
Great service! Staff could not have been more helpful. Delicious, authentic flavoured Caribbean meal.
As brilliant as ever - our friends enjoyed the evening and the food very much!
Having a Jamaican family and knowing about the amazing food myself I'm always gonna be hard to please with Caribbean cuisine unless ofcourse it actually is as good as I know it can be.
Our meal at Rudie's was ok, have had worse and have had better.
Me and my partner both had the full Jamaican breakfast. The green banana was exchanged for plantain.
Dumplings were not real dumplings, more like soft bread. The salt fish was ok, the spinach too. The jerk lamb sausage was nice.
The smoothie was really tasty and the staff were nice and friendly.
Might go back to try another dish or might just stick to mums Jamaican food which just can't compare.
Arrived with a birthday booking for 8 people, had been allocated a table for only 4. So had to sit on two separate tables. Slow service, we waited over an hour for starters, we had to keep getting up to find staff to re-order drinks, then wait half an hour for them. The food was nice. Didn't bring out the pre booked birthday cake! Worst part was when we came to pay, their card machines weren't working - after 40 mins of trying. We were sent out to three different cash points (in the rain) without a single apology or offer or compensation. We refused the service charge and staff were very rude and hostile.
Great food, full of flavour and good size portions..the service was good with real friendly staff.. rum punches were perfect too
Enjoyable night, great food and reasonably priced... highly recommend the meat platter!
I went to Rudie's with some friends for my Birthday Dinner. We were seated in the downstairs dining area. The ambience was relaxed and cosy, however, overall the food was not good at all. I had the Pork belly with sides ( rice and peas, plaintain). It was barely edible. A real shame, as the food was very good when this restaurant first opened. Clearly, their standards have slipped since then.
I was also less than pleased about the cocktails. I had to return my Pins Colada, it was so watery I just couldn't drink it.
I shall not be returning to Rudie's and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I do hope they improve, otherwise patrons will simply not return.
Excellent place for a birthday bash! Food was great, service friendly and the drinks yummy. Best Caribbean food on this side of London. Highly recommend!
LOVED it; excellent food and service. Drinks were amazing
Great Caribbean food. Good selection of cocktails and drinks
This is the third time I've gone to Rudies. I love the ambience, the service is great, they are welcoming and they don't rush you to leave, we stayed and enjoyed the background music and ambience without feeling rushed, even as I arrived a little late. I loved the food, the shrimp, akee, and the curried goat. It has a local feel rather than just another 'trendy' restaurant with good music.
