SAGARDI BASQUE COUNTRY CHEFS
London is the 30th restaurant to launch and is situated in the centre of one of London's most bustling food and drink hubs, Shoreditch.
Simple, healthful cooking including meat and fish grilled over hot coals, marmitako stews, txistorra sausage, Idiazabal sheep’s cheese, “txipirones” (baby squid) and “roxario” salted cod omelette.
If you take your steak as seriously as the Basques do, relish in the restaurants premium red meat Txuleton (chuleton in Spanish) or Txuleta; enormous rib steaks from fattened, old cows that have lived in complete freedom with a 100% natural diet (min 6 years old).
Boasting an array of crafted beverages, a collection of over 200 wines, exquisite champagne, G&T´s, cocktails, traditional Basque vermouth and cider, trendy “perron” glasses and the famous TXAKOLI.

Best Spanish wine list for the square mile.
Great service too.
The food was delicious! The service was friendly but quite slow and we had to chase drinks.
Amazing! Amazing! Everything was amazing! Great service and food.
My wife (Basque). And I had a great time. The Txakoli was sublime, best we’ve had, the Txuleta was the star of the show.
We went for the tasting menu. Big mistake. This place is all about the Txulet, clearly the owners are from April. We should have chosen the steak option for sure.
Great meal, good service is and. Price that wasn’t too bad all in all.
The cod, cured in rock salt, was simply dreadful and this was sadly an affect on the experience. My wife (Basque) knows what rock salt cured cod would be like, we mentioned it not being great but we’re treated a little poorly with the feedback to us being ‘it’s cured in sea salt’. We know. We’ve eaten Basque food for 30 years, take the feedback and take the poor quality food away, apologise and move on, don’t defend it.
Other than this a great experience and we would go back for the sublime Txuleta. It was out of this world tasty.
We visiting on Boxing Day evenings. The waiter recommended a steak to us which was quite possibly the best steak we’d ever tasted! We’d definitely go back the next time we’re in London.
If you like steak — great. Oddly not offered any side orders and had I not asked would have ended up with a big steak only.
Price for steak rather opaque but would return as it was a fabulous piece of meat.
Helpful staff and gorgeous food!
Does what it says with high quality steak. It’s expensive and heavily sold by weight with a limited number of non steak options but I’d say you come here for the steak, and you get what you pay for with great texture and flavour.
The restaurant was buzzing with atmosphere so I wouldn’t recommend a cosy romantic quiet meal. Music was very loud to begin with but was soon overtaken by the buzz of the place.
Spacious bar area, friendly staff, huge wine list. Again our waiter was keen on selling the more expensive wine option which was a bit fresh but just doing his job I suppose.
One criticism-the Jamón jabugo was very disappointing. I noticed the leg that it was being carved from was almost down to the bone (I e nearly finished) and it was very dry and fatty, although it had the distinctive taste. It should always have some fat but this was over fatty. Was mentioned to the waiter and in hindsight I should have sent it back. At £26 a plate (the normal going rate for London for a world class product) they should get this right.
Second time I have visited and I would return, although it is on the pricey side as I say. That’s why they need to get everything right.
Not bad. Had Sunday roast which was clearly not a freshly plated up meal. Would give it another chance and go back for a splurge on the steak, which is what the place is all about really I think! Had the best morcilla. Wine expensive and staff a bit condescending when we chose a wine at the value end of the spectrum.
Excellent experience: hosted a group of colleagues and we were made to feel very welcome by the restaurant, including dietary requirements. The food was superb and will return soon.
Lovely steaks and good mash even though it’s quite pricey! The wine was delicious too. The service is very slow. We waited 40 minutes to place a drinks order from when we arrived and couldn’t flag down a waiter that wasn’t ours. The manager looked at us waving a few times and ignored it as did the other waiters. It’s pity as it’s a nice place.
A brilliant experience for a large group of us. First business meal with clients since March 2020. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to do it.
From start to finish it was a very personable experience, Tanya excellent with helping to book the meal, and the service from Allesandro and Martina on the evening was second to none.
We had the set menu, land and sea. Some of the best fish I’ve ever tasted, complimented with perfect wines.
We’ll definitely be back. I’m still talking about the food 3 days later! Thank you!
Food was delicious however staff not very attentive. We had the ribs which I encourage all to try, as well as the duck. Portions were quite large. The staff at the beginning of the meal spent more time trying to entertain friends it seems then the actual patron's. Once they left the service became a bit better. Washrooms were a mess, and a few women including my wife had to beg for them to sort it out. The staff besides the chef just seemed to have very lack of care.
Excellent food; a bit expensive but it is worthy.
Food was nice but portions small and the staff were not particularly friendly or welcoming.
Came here on Friday night. We all got the tasting menu which was very nice but very overpriced. Octopus, steak, cheesecake were all amazing but unfortunately, after 5 courses we were all left a bit hungry. Often after a tasting menu I'm stuffed but I feel this one might be missing a few sides. Some bread at the start and some potatoes with the main would have probably solved that. Overall experience was very good though, would definitely come back for the regular menu again.
We tried the tasting menu and everyhting was fantastic.
I was so excited when they had roast on the menu, because i know how good their beef is but OMG was i disappointed. the 3 thing slices of meat - the microwaved potatoes and the veggies that all tasted of each other probably microwaved well. I didn't eat it. sent it back and left. I would have forgiven them and ordered something else if not for the appalling service. they kept skipping our table to serve the 2 tables next to us. you had to constantly keep look around to get any attention or to get a drink. and the last nail in the coffin for me was the fact when the waitress finally deigned to come to the table she took away my half full martini.
Never again - i am crushed because i loved it
Fantastic food and very knowledgeable waiter. Especially recommend the on the bone sea bass and the steak
Excellent food and great service. Was with a big group so let the waiter order for us and everything was delicious m. I’ll be back to try more pintxos another time!
Great food and drink, but restaurant was heavily understaffed, meaning we waited for a good 1h15 for the food to arrive. Waiters kept on forgetting things we had ordered
Good food and service, nice ambience. Not cheap though
Made by people that love what they’re doing.
Cheese that’s like licking a battery (in a good way)! Literally one of the most intense taste experiences of my life, the cheese board is unmissable.
Very disappointing , the food is ok , but you can only order steak 1kg min which is weird. Not recomended for couples if one of you want steak and other wan fish.
Little bit prices
Amazing food! Really enjoyed the evening
If you love meat this place is for you, but don't be put off by that, they have a great menu with lots of really good food. We chose tapas this time but will definitely return to try the grill. Very friendly and helpful staff too.
Amazing Food and service.
Alessandro is the best. Thank you for making our experience so perfect
Great positives. Great and friendly staff. Super knowledgeable. Superb food. Great wine (served by knowledgeable staff).
Small negative. I’m not sure the tray with the special meat options is necessary - perhaps just take the customer to see the meat near the fridge because that would also add to the feel of the event (eg being close to the chefs etc). And consider playing Spanish music(?) given the young staff and location in shoreditch. means that it’s perfectly set up for a vibrant, Spanish / Basque feel
Always a good moment !
You have to ask for a Gilda with a g&t to start your meal. Tasting menu is superb
They forgot our in side dishes. We were compensated with a glass of cava but that is kind of the last thing you want after a load of beef
Exceeded our expectations.
Excellent friendly attentive service.
Given great advice about the Spanish wine list and had a lovely Rioja.
Due to tier 2 restrictions it was really quiet inside (we were a family of 5) and we feel really sorry for the restaurant as they have complied with all Covid regulations and it felt very safe, socially distanced and impossible to catch Covid.
Will definitely return when tier 3 restrictions are lifted.
Always love the Sagardi in Shoreditch and also the ones in Barcelona. One of my favourite restaurant in the world :)
Had a lovely evening, enjoying the best Monkfish I've ever tasted and a perfectly matched wine. Super attentive staff who were very knowledgeable about the food and wine, and its origins. We will be back for more!
Overall an excellent night. The food is amazing as well as the service from the staff (special mention to Mark for going above and beyond). Only negative was table close to the door so breezy at times. That aside can't wait to go back and try more of the menu.
Fantastic service and outstanding food, great first meal out post lockdown!
