Welcome back to the Salt and Char team. Great to have the place back up and running. Service and food is exactly what it used to be.
My fiancé and I have been there many times we enjoy eating there . This was our first time since the remodel and I have to say it wasn’t the same. It took 20-25 minutes to get a drink and menu . I already knew what I wanted as I have dined there plenty of times. Honestly I wouldn’t even be writing this review if it wasn’t for the fact that my waitress didn’t know what she was talking about. It’s a high end steak house and the wait staff should be well versed in what wagyu is especially if it’s on the specials menu. As someone who purchases lots of Japanese a5 wagyu on a monthly basis, when I asked the question “ is it American, Australian, or Japanese “? The response should not have been “ it’s wagyu, it’s American”. That could not be further from the truth and when you have clients spending 400 dollars on a meal if you don’t know the answer it’s better to just say I’ll find out than to give an answer that is completely wrong.
This was honestly one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. From the moment we sat down, Matt was incredible, knowledgeable and went out of his way to ensure a great night for us. They didn’t have the bottle of wine we ordered so they gave us a better bottle for the original wine’s price. Every single food item was delicious. We had salads, soup, apps, entrees and desserts and each was truly SO delicious. It was such a great evening and well worth the money. We can’t wait to go here again.
Every item for dinner was excellent, as was the service. Certainly pricey, but worth a visit.
We have always enjoyed Salt & Char and make a point of having the last dinner of our week’s stay in Saratoga at this fabulous steak restaurant, but we were a bit concerned when we learned that we would be dining in a tent outside because the main dining room is undergoing extensive renovation. We were more than pleasantly surprised at how magical the tent space felt. There was no negative effect on the service or the food. The steaks were, in fact, better than ever, and the lobster gazpacho was superb. The high-ceilinged tent actually made the noise level lower than in the past in the main restaurant. We’ve been dining in Saratoga for more than a decade, and this meal ranks near the top. We’ll see you again in September, no matter where you’re serving.
Great place with great food and service.
Definitely one of the best in Saratoga.
If you need to impress this is the place.
Great Service! Can’t say enough about the waitstaff and bartender. Very efficient and courteous! However, I was somewhat disappointed with my filet! For the price I was expecting much better.
The waygu cap steak lived up to it's "Best thing I ever ate" reputation. The fontina mac & cheese was very good, but very rich. We also had the "potato & onion soup", which I thought sounded strange. It was french onion soup on the bottom, topped with mashed potatoes and cheese. It was sooo good, but apparent that whoever thought of this must have been stoned at the time because it is the perfect stoner food. Our waiter Matt was so kind and on top of things, he did everything perfect! At first when they seated us in the tent area (because of construction), I thought that it would be hot and muggy in there, but to my surprise, it was thankfully cool and pleasant.
Steaks were good, sides were ok and bar drinks were poor. Also we were outside in the tent in the rain so not ideal but the live string quartet helped the ambiance. Overall good steak but the meal overall did not quite live up to the $$$.
This was our first time dining at Salt and Char and we will most certainly be returning. The food was amazing, the service was outstanding and the atmosphere was wonderful.
Fabulous food and the service was wonderful.
What a lovely evening! A Thursday night date at Salt & Char in the Tent (while the restaurant is being renovated) was a perfect spot for a cool summer evening. Twinkling lights and cool jazz trio made the delicious meal taste even better. Great service, great steak, a creme brulee that dreams are made of.
It was a little chilly in the tent but everything else was well executed by the staff. I would return to the tent on a slightly warmer evening
FANTASTIC meal. The restaurant is under construction, so meals are being served in a large event tent behind the building. The ambience is fine, along the lines of a lovely upscale wedding, but I can't speak to what it would be like in the old venue or what it will be like in the newly renovated space. Staff were very proactive to our needs. Food was spectacular.
Great steaks and amazing drinks. They are located in a bog outdoor tent due to renovations but it was still awesome.
Dinner outside under a tent for me is never ideal but add a hardwood floor, plants, rugs, plush couches, real tables and chairs and amazing service and food and you get Salt & Char.
Michael was outstanding as out lead server and his assistant was super knowledgeable and very helpful.
Everything was amazing, the food was delicious from the beginning until the very end; perfectly cooked and seasoned appropriately with portions that were just the right size. Classic cocktails and a great selection of wine rounded out the experience.
Restaurant is under renovation. Out door under tent only. They did not advise when reservation was made. The staff did their best. The tent was very pretty. Music was good. Would try again when they finish renovation
First, we showed up at the regular address. It was completely blocked off by construction. We were headed to new place but called. They said they were behind Adelphi. Little did we know it was a tent. Yes, a tent. Would be good to let people know.
Food was such a disappointment. The very expensive ribeye came out rare, and when asked to cook it right, it was re-fired which then made it lose all flavor. Seafood dish was not fresh. Porterhouse for 2 was good but the strip had tons of sinew. Bacon was really good. Sides were good but they never produced one of them which we asked for 3 times.
This was one of our go to’s so we had a lot of previous basis to compare. Lastly, no leaders to be found. The staff did so great and did their best in a clearly dysfunctional environment.
*** Since posting my review, a leader of the restaurant called me directly and apologized. Evidently, they had an order system failure. He offered to make it right and we appreciate it. That demonstrates they just had a bad day and we will go back. This place is typically 5 stars.
Very good service. Wine list impressive.
We were disappointed compared with the write up, and after the maze of getting back to it. The menu advertised a 2012 Cabernet, but the waiter brought a 2018 bottle saying it must have been a misprint, but the $68 price remained. The salads were very tasty, our filets were grilled perfectly and the sides, although limited in choice, were also good. The music was good and at the perfect loudness for eating. Overall the experience was not worth the nearly $300 price tag.
Was a lonely evening, service and food was outstanding. Without notice we were seated in a tent as the restaurant was under construction. When paying these prices I would have expected a more appropriate/appealing atmosphere.
It would have been nice to know in advance (at the time of the reservation) that the restaurant was undergoing a $7mm renovation. When we arrived, there was no entrance (major construction was ongoing) and we were directed to a tent in the rear. The dining experience was still wonderful, but we were quite surprised when we arrived. Customers should be advised to expect these situations.
After seeing a few less than stellar reviews , we almost canceled our reservation. However , the service , food and ambiance could not have been better . Was it pricey? Yes , but the quality of the steaks was well worth it . We will add Salt and Char to our list of all time favorite restaurants and we will be back the next time we visit Saratoga.
Salt and Char has become one of our favorites. My husband and I both had the filet mignon. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
Great place. I love the ambiance and cool vibe here. It can easily be the setting for a 1920’s speakeasy bar. The staff is great and if you can’t get a table, settle for the bar. With social distancing, it’s even better then one of their cozy corners.
Always wonderful and delicious!
Love coming here. Always excellent. Best fillet mignon ever, cooked to perfection too!
Service was exceptional. Nice ambiance. Very expensive
Great job. Great food. Great service.
This was our second visit to Salt & Char and two reasons stand out on why my wife and I came back. First of all Carly is the absolute best!! From Introduction as our waitress, food choices, side selection to attentiveness during our stay, she was amazing. She made great conversation and was generally just a pleasure!! Secondly, the food. Clothesline Bacon a must, Wagu Cap steak cuts like butter, Brussel sprouts to die for. Everything was cooked to perfection, compliments to Chef David Burke. Honorable mention to waitress assistant Lilly, she was on it. Our glasses were always full, the dishes were cleared immediately after completion and she was the most cordial and pleasant without interrupting out conversation. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was impressive with the most beautiful oil paintings giving homage to the town of Saratoga Springs. We will def be back and recommend Salt and Char as a must when visiting the town and staying at Adelphi.
Service is always excellent! We are regulars at Salt and Char and they never disappoint. Stellar service and fantastic food. Love the ambience as well, music and lighting is just perfect.
Just incredible. The food was amazing, best steak I’ve ever had. Our waitress was phenomenal. Can’t wait to go back again!
Best in Saratoga! Never disappoints. Drinks are innovative with a twist to the classics. Cant go wrong with steak or seafood they know how to prepare an outstanding meal.
A New Year’s Eve to remember. The food was rich and unctuous and the staff engaging! The short rib ragu with fazzoletti pasta was amazing!
Do yourself a favor and indulge in one of the dry aged steaks. It’s the kind of meal that makes all conversation stop while your eyes roll back in your head and you moan with the pleasure of each perfect, beefy bite. Food really doesn’t get much better than this. The wine program is also truly excellent, as are the service and the desserts.
We went for New Year’s Eve and the food was amazing. The staff was so friendly too, it was a great experience.
Best steak house in region by far. Intimate yet elegant, urban yet localized. Fun and well worth the price.
Didn't realize it was connected to adelphi hotel. I ate in their other restaurant Montgomery for Christmas even and here Tonite for a Christmas. Nice menu very good service and food was great. Was a nice dining experience
the portions are getting smaller, for the price.
The lobster bisque soup had maybe 4 or 5 tablespoons of sauce
One filet mignon was over done
Other than these issues the dinner was fine
