We booked, as a friend advised to book early, to avoid disappointment.
It was a Wednesday booking, early evening and we were the only diners in there until a large table of guests arrived, almost at the end of our meal.
I’m sure when it’s busy in there the ambience would make it seem as if you were on holiday. Great music, great staff, delicious food and strangely enough gorgeous ladies loo too!
Thank you so much for making my daughter’s birthday such a memorable occasion. The waiters were polite , attentive and thoughtful . The food was delicious- we LOVED the calamari! The restaurant was immaculately clean and exquisitely decorated. I highly recommend this restaurant- a true gem in Cockfosters’s crown x
We had a lovely catch up with friend we hadn't seen for awhile and Cockfosters was a convenient location for all of us to meet. I searched restaurants in Cockfosters and Saltgrass was the most appealing to me. We had not been to this restaurant before and so didn't really know what to expect but we thoroughly enjoyed our night. Lovely decor, great ambience, good service staff and most importantly - great food. Would easily recommend and will revisit in the future. It was a very good experience for our first visit. We will definitely return again soon. Also, it is incredibly good value for money.
Ordered beers - didn’t have them, ordered a bottle of wine- didn’t have it! Ordered another bottle but they ‘only had one’! Wanted a 8oz steak but the minimum allowed was 16oz! My friend and I had lamb skewers which were ok but bit dry, Greek salad was lovely though. Sirloin steak very fatty but my hubby wouldn’t send it back as doesn’t like to cause a fuss! Any query we had always involved the waiter calling for another member of staff to answer. Our waiter was lovely and friendly though - a real pleasure. Very disappointing sadly.
Terrible food, terrible service. My chicken was raw! Avoid
I would recommend however the seating is very uncomfortable. The sofas are not designed to be at a table, they are too low. My husband is 6ft 3 and had to ask for a cushion to sit on!! The food was good but LONDON prices for a local restaurant. Service was friendly and the cellist was lovely.
We had an evening meal on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was very quiet with only three tables occupied. Service wasn't that great- cocktails took 15 minutes to arrive and the wine we chose was unavailable. However, the food was excellent and arrived reasonably quickly.
Unfortunately we waited so long for our food that we asked for our drinks and starters bill then walked out. Despite their excuses 1 hour is too long to wait for food particularly when you have children. Real shame as was looking forward to this
Lovely setting and great location however the menu is limited and the service needs improving. Definitely has potential.
We had a lovely meal, the food was very tasty but the wait for the mains was far too long.
We went on a Friday night and they had live music which was beyond loud. We went as a group of 6 friends who don’t see each other often and couldn’t hold a conversation across the table despite being moved further away from the singers. It was very disappointing as it detracted from an otherwise lovely meal.
The thing make sad it was the steak
The steak was cold
Delicious! Definitely going back :) the steak wasn’t perfectly cooked, variety of sides to choose from. Great service and music was lovely. Wonderful evening.
Best food and place to eat , especially for a special occasion! Will be back for sure.
Seems to be some teething problems. Fryer broke so we didn’t receive our starters with others. Slow service.
Ambience good. There was a violinist and singer. Food was good but overpriced. I would give it another go in the future.
What a GREAT night!!! Came with some friends and from start to finish we were treated like kings. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and passionate. They really know there stuff. The place looks amazing. Great place for a proper night out with friends. Will be back soon.
Took my partner here for our anniversary. The Restaurant looks amazing. All the staff are very friendly and greeted us with a smile. Very attentive service. I started with the octopus and my girlfriend started with a steak Tartare. Both were a generous portion and tasted delicious. For the mains I had the ribeye And my girlfriend chose the catch of the day. The steak tasted great and was perfectly cooked. The catch of the day was incredibly fresh and also well cooked. I look forward to bringing my family back here. Definitely an asset to the neighbourhood!!
Lovely surroundings, very nice meal, highly enjoyable afternoon - can’t wait to try their steaks.
I had such a wonderful evening at SALTGRASS. Staff was very friendly and professional. Definitely I’ll visit again.
We started us anniversary with some oysters and my couple was amazed for the lovely Margaritas the bartender made for us, after that we shared a brilliant Waldorf salad and a steak tartare and after that we were delighted with the delicious prime rib i had and a tasty dover sole she had throwing with couple of champagne glasses after cocktails I just can say was a wonderful lunch, we will be back soon again to see that lovely staff.
It’s a lovely looking restaurant but not worth the money
Great food. Didn’t know what to expect but being in Cockfosters you felt like you could be abroad at a very good Resturant.
Highly recommended and I was not disappointed
We went for Mother’s Day and it was a very enjoyable meal. Certain things are a tad expensive (e.g. £5.50 for chips to go with a main course as they come without any accompaniments) but apart from that the quality of the food, the service, and the restaurant itself were very nice. We would definitely go back.
I would recommend Saltgrass as the food we had was outstanding. I did however think the 12.5/15% service charge was extreme so we asked for it to be removed so that we could tip accordingly.
I enjoyed the restaurant which is decorated beautifully, it has a nice ambience and the atmosphere was very pleasant. We were disappointed by a few items. Firstly when we asked for the bread, the waitress informed us there was a problem and we had to wait approx 15 minutes for it to arrive. However they did not charge for the bread which was OK. Secondly we asked for English mustard and was told the restaurant had run out. This was really quite unacceptable at such an establishment. Once again when we had practically finished our meal the waitress brought the mustard and informed us that they had gone next door to get some. Thirdly the portion sizes were very small and your waitress should of informed us that one side is only enough for one person.
Finally it was quite expensive and we didnt find it value for money.
We booked her for an early mother’s days meal and we were very disappointed. The steaks weren’t very nice and they weren’t cooked properly.
A very pleasant experience which felt rather more special than the average - certainly compared to the variety of restaurants in Cockfosters. The cellist certainly helped with that!
The sirloin steak was perfectly cooked and the chips with parmesan tasty though very filling. Baklava dessert also very nice. Very good food but I'm not sure whether the price tag was absolutely deserved.
The general feel of the place was impressive but I must admit the marketing spiel around the 'kitchen story' plastered on the fascia and inside the restaurant did jar a bit with the overall upmarket vibe.
I wish it every success as the staff clearly care about what they're doing.
Our dining experience in Saltgrass was very positive. This place is local to us and we wanted to mark a special birthday there without travelling to the City or the west end. The quality of the food is high, starters are well portioned -except from the garlic and lemon prawns that despite beautifully seasoned were a bit too pricey at 15 pounds for 4.
The meat was good. Our party party is familiar with high quality Argentinian beef so it was nice to be able to sample similar rib eyes in north London. Having said that, there are very limited cuts available and again, priced to a level that I have only seen in the City of London and as lovely as this place is, it does not really justify the costs.
The cocktails were poor, the mojitos lacked lemon juice and more rum and again priced at 11 pounds for a mediocre drink leaves a bit of a sour taste.
The wine list is limited just as the steak selection cuts are.
The sides we chose were superb, best mash potatoe ever.
Staff is very attentive and we got a very enthusiastic welcome from someone who we assumed was the manager? But he never introduced himself to our party but we were thankful nonetheless for the courtesy.
I would not go back to Saltgrass if it not were for a really special occasion and we were unable to travel to central London.
Having said that, I am glad about the addition of Saltgrass to the many other dining choices in Cockfosters.
Great food, great restaurant. Definitely a bit pricey for location. Service was good, but could be slightly refined. We did have a great experience that night.
Waitress was not very good as did not explain anything because on the menu there was no price for steaks and we had to get up from table to have a look at the steaks.
Which we found very expensive
Food was average but extremely expensive, sevice not brilliant when we arrived for a early table restaurant almost empty, and was offered a table by the front door, which we refused , so we're shown to a quiet table upstairs, we was fine until two party tables arrived. They were people coming up and down stairs standing around and chatting extremely loud so as to disturb our meal, they must have been only drinking as half left. Also when choosing our meal we were asked to go downstairs to pick our steak, at a meal costing my husband £80 a head for two courses, l think they should show you the meat at your table over all not sure if l would return
Well done good effort for opening week. Owner and staff very nice. Very cool place. Make sure you serve proper portions with the fish dishes. You must enhance your vegi and vegan offering or you will scare away the wealthy trendy crew and their family's. My burger was yummy. Good luck , I will be back.
I think this place has got the potential to be great. The setting is lovely and the staff look the part, but they were clumsy and inexperienced. The food was average nothing memorable about it, my husband's starter of prawns came out raw and needed to be sent back. We waited an hour for our starter and another hour for our main course. Something had definitely gone wrong. Everyone was complaining. The couple next to us had their main courses arrive separately!! They were not impressed. The wine list was not extensive enough for a steakhouse either! It's a shame. Hope they iron out the problems soon.
Early days but a few bits to learn. Prices were Central London levels but the quality of food on our visit unfortunately was well below what was expected. Steak didn't taste great at all.
Was really looking forward to this place opening for some Weeks too being in the local area.
Service was sluggish too.
Early days and I am sure that things will improve as they go along. Will give them another try at some point.
