We attended for the Oysterfest as we were promised as advertised on the website, the following:
Oyster Bar – Every Saturday
Our oyster bar will be open on the front terrace every Saturday for the month between 2pm and 3pm. Watch one of our chefs shuck fresh oysters and select from a range of accompanying sauces. It doesn’t get much fresher than that!
Unfortunately, there was a table set up but nothing happened the duration we were there (from 1.45-just gone 3). It was quiet and other than being served an oyster menu, you would have had no idea there was an “oysterfest” going on. Equally, I returned to Samphire with a different group in the evening, prior to dinner at a nearby establishment, and visited for a cocktail on the top terrace, expecting a resident DJ, but nobody in sight? Felt like I had perhaps got the wrong date for Oysterfest or I was a tad early.
I do love Samphire (or Ormer as it was when I had last visited) as a restaurant itself which is why I have rated food, etc well (the oysters we had WERE EXCELLENT, as was the perfectly chilled glass of Chablis) but the decision to attend on a Saturday was based purely on the reason I wanted to enjoy “Oysterfest” and I think the advertisement made expectations higher than what was delivered in reality.
Another great meal, faultless ! Under the new management the restaurant is now back on track and going from strength to strength.
A very enjoyable evening, the staff were very attentive whilst not being overburdening, food was delicious, recommend the £36 bottle of Rioja!
While the food was excellent, best pasta I have tasted, the service did not meet expectations. We ordered wine and this turned up as a bottle but we ordered it by the glass. We were halfway through our meal before the wint arrived.
Casual dinner for two early septembre weekday : the restaurant is not fully booked and staff is friendly and relaxed
With recent new ownership, the menu is more Classic Jersey type of food than before
I had crab tagliatelle and lobster thermidor and both dishes were close to perfection
Price is correct given the very high standard of food and venue.
Delicious food but service was fairly unfriendly and the atmosphere was flat as a pancake
Probably the best meal I have had in Jersey, although it was a special occasion and I don't normally splash out that much on a meal, but it was truly worth it. It was actually very good value for money. Will be back to try the taster menu at some point. The food and service was excellent. If it's not got a michelin star, it should have! There was a really good mix of price options on the menu too, which means that you can eat there affordably. Really excellent - can't fault it.
Everytime I go there it’s outstanding. My favorite restaurant in Jersey!
Didn’t think it could get any better than Ormer but it was, only thing that could make it better would be a soufflé
Superb quality food and very good relaxed attentive service
Great food excellent service perfect atmosphere finding parking can be a bit of a problem sometimes though but otherwise excellent.
Samphire is dining perfection. Exquisite food and wine, serene ambiance, professional, friendly and attentive service, without the snobby air you sometimes find in top end restaurants. The only downside is we don't live in Jersey to be able to dine there more often.
Sophisticated cuisine but in a very relaxed, bright and contemporary environment with pleasantly attentive staff with none of the obsequiousness that can sadly all too often be a feature of top-end dining establishments!
Only slight criticism - the way the menu was set- out was somewhat confusing and apparently haphazard and did take us a while to get to grips with ( perhaps a lack of sophistication on our part?!!)
Beautiful food, lovely attentive and friendly staff, relaxed but special surroundings, perfect ambience. Only downside no reasonable lower priced wine.
Fabulous family lunch special day.
Amazing! from the first connection with Events and Marketing Manager our booking ran so smoothly. Extremely friendly although professional approach. The food was outstanding. Highly recommend this restaurant and looking forward to our next event.
I went to Samphire with friends for a special occasion and the whole experience was outstanding. It's a beautiful restaurant and everything we ate and drank was wonderful. The service was exceptional too and we loved the terrace too. Thank you!
With most tasting menus there are generally a couple of stand out dishes. On this occasion it would have been unfair to single out any course, the quality was superb throughout with an excellent selection of paired wines, the two dessert wines in particular. The service was a little patchy initially, but nothing to complain about and probably not helped by members of our party not being ready when the staff were. A thoroughly enjoyable meal.
Great food, elegantly presented with superb service that’s not overly stuffy
Really wanted to try Samphire for our wedding anniversary.
Husbands starter of foie gras was excellent but crab was tasteless.
Both chose lobster Thermidor for main course. This was really dry with an overwhelming flavour of fennel. Not the silky, brandy, mustard, light cheese classic we were expecting at all. So disappointing.
Jersey royals would have been perfect if cooked. They were hard throughout the centres.
Expensive meal which we would not have minded had the food been spot on.
The music was too loud for a nice calming restaurant, it was fairly loud anyway as it was busy and then in the background was some really heavy music! It was actually giving us a headache.
We had our 25th Wedding Anniversary meal at Samphire. Truly stunning evening!!
good service and it’s my birthday I’ve got a birthday cake which was lovely.
Samphire needs to decide whether it is a casual everyday restaurant or a fine dining experience. It is currently trying to be both and risks satisfying nobody. The menu is both confused and confusing, and whilst the chef can clearly cook there is one ingredient too many on most of the dishes (including lots of hazelnuts on two different starters which were not mentioned on the menu description of either). Although the menu is long - too long - it was surprisingly difficult to find something appealing without defaulting to the safe (i.e. boring) option of steak or lobster. At £100 per person (admittedly including a £50 lobster and chips main course, although the lobster was small) it was too expensive to encourage repeat dining or to recommend to friends. The fact that the fire alarm went off intermittently all evening was unfortunate, but the staff dealt with this well and a glass of complimentary champagne by way of apology was welcome. Overall a pleasant enough evening but I will not be rushing back.
Wonderful food and service. Quiet for a Thursday which was a shame.
Service and ambience were excellent, food was nicely presented.
From the moment we walked in we felt we were going to have a great evening. We had more or less decided in advance to have the tasting menu, and a quick glance at the menu confirmed this. The menu was well balanced and imaginative, and the cooking and presentation faultless. Service was friendly and efficient. What really made the evening special was the way in which the sommelier adapted the wine flight to give us the opportunity to try wines we would almost certainly have never selection from the list.
My party thoroughly enjoyed our evening. A really friendly welcome flowed through to knowledgable and friendly staff. The menu had plenty of choice, my only dislike is the price of the lobster for the size of the portion. I don’t feel it’s good value. I had the risotto and it was delicious and a really good portion.
Can’t wsit to return
The food was spectacular. I had the crab started which was delicious and Monkfish for main again amazing. We were a table of six and we all said they were the best chips we have ever tasted. The puddings were so so good, again the chocolate fondant was the best we had ever ever had ! Will be going back and highly recommend this restaurant.
Absolutely amazing. This restaurant just gets better and better under new ownership. Excellent menu and very attentive staff.
Very disappointed. When Ormer last year was excellent . But this time less so. Service good but my steak and 4 large chips was so salty I could not finish it.
Am absolutely outstanding restaurant - the food was delicious and the staff couldn’t have done more for us.
Excellent service and quality food. Expensive but good value. Great for couples
Great menu with some fantastically matched wines. Great ambience and fantastic service. Not cheap but if you’re prepared to pay you’ll enjoy. Will be back.
Fantastic food. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Lovely restaurant. Could not fault it at all and we will certainly be back.
Very nice food, and lovely dining room. Would definitely recommend.
I went to see how the rebrand from Ormer worked , had it changed was it different . The answer was not in a material way . Excellent starter , good wine , main just average . Very quiet for a Friday night .
I left feelin what's really changed , the answer very little. I was always under impressed by Ormer and I left with pretty much the same feeling. A feeling of missed opportunity
Wonderful and creative dishes, smallish portions which I like, beautifully presented, friendly smiling but deferential staff.
