I went to Samphire with friends for a special occasion and the whole experience was outstanding. It's a beautiful restaurant and everything we ate and drank was wonderful. The service was exceptional too and we loved the terrace too. Thank you!
With most tasting menus there are generally a couple of stand out dishes. On this occasion it would have been unfair to single out any course, the quality was superb throughout with an excellent selection of paired wines, the two dessert wines in particular. The service was a little patchy initially, but nothing to complain about and probably not helped by members of our party not being ready when the staff were. A thoroughly enjoyable meal.
Great food, elegantly presented with superb service that’s not overly stuffy
Really wanted to try Samphire for our wedding anniversary.
Husbands starter of foie gras was excellent but crab was tasteless.
Both chose lobster Thermidor for main course. This was really dry with an overwhelming flavour of fennel. Not the silky, brandy, mustard, light cheese classic we were expecting at all. So disappointing.
Jersey royals would have been perfect if cooked. They were hard throughout the centres.
Expensive meal which we would not have minded had the food been spot on.
The music was too loud for a nice calming restaurant, it was fairly loud anyway as it was busy and then in the background was some really heavy music! It was actually giving us a headache.
We had our 25th Wedding Anniversary meal at Samphire. Truly stunning evening!!
good service and it’s my birthday I’ve got a birthday cake which was lovely.
Samphire needs to decide whether it is a casual everyday restaurant or a fine dining experience. It is currently trying to be both and risks satisfying nobody. The menu is both confused and confusing, and whilst the chef can clearly cook there is one ingredient too many on most of the dishes (including lots of hazelnuts on two different starters which were not mentioned on the menu description of either). Although the menu is long - too long - it was surprisingly difficult to find something appealing without defaulting to the safe (i.e. boring) option of steak or lobster. At £100 per person (admittedly including a £50 lobster and chips main course, although the lobster was small) it was too expensive to encourage repeat dining or to recommend to friends. The fact that the fire alarm went off intermittently all evening was unfortunate, but the staff dealt with this well and a glass of complimentary champagne by way of apology was welcome. Overall a pleasant enough evening but I will not be rushing back.
Wonderful food and service. Quiet for a Thursday which was a shame.
Service and ambience were excellent, food was nicely presented.
From the moment we walked in we felt we were going to have a great evening. We had more or less decided in advance to have the tasting menu, and a quick glance at the menu confirmed this. The menu was well balanced and imaginative, and the cooking and presentation faultless. Service was friendly and efficient. What really made the evening special was the way in which the sommelier adapted the wine flight to give us the opportunity to try wines we would almost certainly have never selection from the list.
My party thoroughly enjoyed our evening. A really friendly welcome flowed through to knowledgable and friendly staff. The menu had plenty of choice, my only dislike is the price of the lobster for the size of the portion. I don’t feel it’s good value. I had the risotto and it was delicious and a really good portion.
Can’t wsit to return
The food was spectacular. I had the crab started which was delicious and Monkfish for main again amazing. We were a table of six and we all said they were the best chips we have ever tasted. The puddings were so so good, again the chocolate fondant was the best we had ever ever had ! Will be going back and highly recommend this restaurant.
Absolutely amazing. This restaurant just gets better and better under new ownership. Excellent menu and very attentive staff.
Very disappointed. When Ormer last year was excellent . But this time less so. Service good but my steak and 4 large chips was so salty I could not finish it.
Am absolutely outstanding restaurant - the food was delicious and the staff couldn’t have done more for us.
Excellent service and quality food. Expensive but good value. Great for couples
Great menu with some fantastically matched wines. Great ambience and fantastic service. Not cheap but if you’re prepared to pay you’ll enjoy. Will be back.
Fantastic food. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Lovely restaurant. Could not fault it at all and we will certainly be back.
Very nice food, and lovely dining room. Would definitely recommend.
I went to see how the rebrand from Ormer worked , had it changed was it different . The answer was not in a material way . Excellent starter , good wine , main just average . Very quiet for a Friday night .
I left feelin what's really changed , the answer very little. I was always under impressed by Ormer and I left with pretty much the same feeling. A feeling of missed opportunity
Wonderful and creative dishes, smallish portions which I like, beautifully presented, friendly smiling but deferential staff.
Great service and food. Lovely crab starter and fillet steak. Good advice on the wine. Very enjoyable evening and a nice treat.
From the expertly mixed aperitifs and the smooth service right down to the butter, this was a superb dinner.
très bon restaurant , des plats harmonieux , beaucoup de saveurs, tout en gardant une belle légèreté . Le service est chaleureux mais reste discret, l'ambiance fort cosy. Un superbe choix de vins en bouteille ou au verre. Un must.
Highly recommended, great food in a relaxed atmosphere retaining much of what was good about Ormer
Exceptional in every way
Wonderful evening to celebrate my husbands birthday but so disappointed that there was no candle or happy birthday message on the plate. I asked twice and it was forgotten.
Lovely service and made my daughter feel special as it was her 19 birthday
Absolutely amazing food. We were celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary and had a wonderful and relaxed evening. The staff were attentive and we were able to take our time over our meal. The food was exquisite - every mouthful was a culinary experience.
Fabulous dinner in Ormer. We had taster menu which was delicious. Service excellent with just enough time given between courses
Business lunches are relaxed and enjoyable, a regular visitor to Samphire
Very impressed with the vegetarian menu and the food in general. The wine flight was fantastic and the sommelier very knowledgeable and keen to ensure we enjoyed everything. A fantastic special evening. I would recommend. The cocktails served in the bar are also stunning
We had an exceptional dinner, felt very well looked after, friendly team. Perfect evening for my husbands birthday treat- thank you
Gorgeous food prepared by amazingng chefs which was almost too beautiful to eat. Great waiting staff, attentive and there when you wanted them.
Had a breakfast here to celebrate my birthday and it was fab. The staff couldn't have been nicer/more welcoming and they gave me a birthday message and delicious petit fours as it was my birthday - loved it and the food was amazing
We were looking for a nice lunch in easy surroundings in a place with a great name. Everything was delivered with finesse and elegance. I would most definitely do it again.
Food delicious. Very good service, until all the other tables around us left and we were a little abandoned at our table. No one asked us to pay our bill we had to walk over to the bar near the exit in order to do this and ask for our jackets. Was late in afternoon by this point between service but there was another table in as well, so not good enough to have so few staff around to meet guests needs. Also no chocolate or biscuit with tea and coffee which is a poor show for a restaurant of this standard. Will return as food lovely, would expect better service though and more attention to detail.
