The cuisine was a combination of Tuscan, Piedmontese and Roman influences, which was at once popular with everyone in London. Unchanged by modern trends the food is light and uncomplicated using ancestral recipes whilst constantly introducing innovative seasonal specials.
The service level is at best disinterested and unenthusiastic. The tables were all crowed into one area of the restaurant which meant one kept getting bumped as waiters and other guests moved around. It was Valentine's Day so one normally expects some extra effort/spark from the restaurant - there was none. The food was good, but not good enough to compensate for other deficiencies. We wont be going back there
A once great venue allowed to die slowly. Awful beyond belief. Please relaunch it!!
Great staff and service
San Lorenzo, in Knightsbridge's Beauchamp Place, is probably my favourite family-run Italian restaurant on the planet. The menu - focusing on classic dishes from Tuscany , Piemonte and Rome - is as good as you are going to find anywhere in Italy itself or outside of that beautiful country in my view. The wine list also reads extremely well ! Round that off with the friendliest welcome from the wonderfully interesting owner Lorenzo and his charming daughter Marina and you are guaranteed a great time. If you are really lucky you may find a special on the menu matching up to their unfussy yet spectacular Coniglio con Polenta - truly a joyous experience. 10/10
Authentic italian. Not pretentious. Not too expensive. Great selection of classics. Everything i tried was good. Calamari. Courgettes. Mozzarella. Fettuccine al ragu great desserts too.
Very relaxed atmosphere. The food was excellent. There was some confusion when we arrived and we were just pointed to the area where our table was. The service was slow but as we were with family over from Los Angeles who we hadn’t seen for two years it didn’t actually matter in this instance.
Nice atmosphere. The service was a bit inconsistent. The food was good, not over the top. It was an enjoyable meal for our last meal in London.
The food was ok when it eventually arrived. It took ages and nobody seemed to care....despite adding 12.5% service charge automatically to the bill. I'm not sure how many times we had to ask for something 3 or 4 times....it got really annoying in the end. They forgot the wine completely , were incapable of bring a bottle of water and had 2 mix-ups with the food. It wasn't even busy....
This place really needs to do better on the service side as if not people will just go elsewhere.
Lovely great tasty food but presentation from the 80’s
Visiting daughter in London.
Fantastic lunchtime meal with a client, there was plenty of choice and our waiter was brilliant, as was the food! Really couldn't fault it - highly recommended.
Fabulous place and food is wonderful. Easy to see why it was Princess Diana's favorite restaurant.
Expensive & poor produce & quality served up. Will not recommend or return. Poor experience
I booked this restaurant for a birthday meal for a very good friend. We turned up and the restaurant was closed with no notice. This is the 2nd time they have done this. The first was in June when it was an extremely special occasion which had been booked in February. They gave me 2 days notice that the restaurant was closed thus not enabling me to book a similar restaurant elsewhere. When I queried the 20th August booking they said that Open Table was blocked off for their summer holiday which doesnt quite explain why I was receiving confirmation and reminder emails. To say I was disappointd is an understatement.
The restaurant is stunning to look at with contemporary art on the walls. The menu is quite short but the quality of the food is excellent supported by friendly efficient service. It lacks the buzz of the old days and deserves more customers.
Soo disappointed on every level! Confirmed my booking through open table, rang restaurant on night to alter the time, they said they didn’t have a booking for us, but could accommodate us. Wish they hadn’t. Sat upstairs not in the main part of the restaurant. Service terrible, had to ask several times for wine that we’d ordered. Not a relaxing experience. Will never go again!
The service was not friendly, neither unfriendly, just very cold. The appetizer we requested was No more available (although the restaurant was absolutely empty). So we ordered mozzarella , tomato and basil. We got a plate with a mozzarella that was hard, (like the supermarket type), 4 leaves of basil and a few tomato slices. The pasta was average. All in all it was a disappointing experience after we had heard so much about this restaurant
There are good reasons that this long-established, upscale, family-run restaurant that has been a celebrity magnet for decades.
The interior offers a choice of cozy, rather private dining with a garden view, or the bright skylight-lit room that makes you feel as if you are sitting in the gardens as you look out on them. Rest assured that attending a private party is also very special.
The food is exquisitely Italian, in that everything is made from the freshest, most flavorful ingredients and expertly prepared. Handmade pasta and sausages are melt-in-your-mouth delicious, sauces have complexities that linger on the palate. Desserts are what one hopes for at the end of an already ambrosial meal. The seasoned staff are there to help you enjoy every moment whilst under their care.
Proprietress Marina watches over all, her lovely manner and gentle wit setting the tone for this sophisticated venue. I see that San Lorenzo can easily become one’s favourite night out, as both a restaurant and a salon. One wants to linger here.
I know I shall return to San Lorenzo upon each of my subsequent, thrice-yearly visits from the US, and highly recommend it to all.
Absolutely terrible food and the service was worse than awful.
Would never recommend San Lorenzo and never return. And I’m Italian.
The food is no palatable at all! Shame. The Restaurant Owner and Head Chef need to sit down and rethink the menu from scratch.
Nıthing left from the menu
We asked for burrata/sorry
Vine list / 2 slected / sorry
Fabulous food - fabulous wine - fabulous location - fabulous layout - fabulous team and fabulously authentic! So strongly recommended 😀
The food was outstanding. The service excellent The whole experience was amazing. Will be back again very soon!!
Was disappointed to find an empty restaurant at 7.45 on a Friday evening so severe lack of atmosphere
Food service excellent though
Sadly, only 3 tables in use at any one time. Quiet with little or no atmosphere. Attractive decor. Nice service, pretty good food but well over-priced.
romantic dinner-beautiful restaurant , not the usual fine dining in London, its the ACTUAL fine dining one would expect...exceeded expectations.
Disappointed. Quiet so service should have been better...
Dover Sole was over done...
Second course came out immediately after the first course which was very off putting as they knew we were in no rush..
No gluten free bread for one of the girls..
Outstanding restaurant- service was excellent. We were in vacations in London and happen to be our son’s birthday so we decided to celebrate at San Lorenzo’s with all the family. Great location, food was fantastic, great selection of wines. Lorenzo came to our table to greet us. What a nice treat- we realized how well known he is. We would come again in our next trip
This used to be a reliable institution. It has sadly gone down hill. The fish was terrible, manky, greasy sole. I will not return.
Excellent tasty food in a lovely setting with views of the garden either side of the seating , windows that open to let in breezes . Whilst the food was yummy the servings were on the smallish side . Nice branch ground music
Birthday. 4 people arrived fir 8-30pm finally served our main course at 10-30... 1.5 hours between courses... no dessert as we would have been there till the morning.
We visited on New Year’s Eve and the food was lovely. But this time we didn’t enjoy it at all !
Very poor service. We were rushed to order our food - the waiter then got every person's order wrong and didn't offer to provide us with the food we ordered because the chef had left.
I had dinner at San Lorenzo this week with my husband and our son. We had a delicious meal. The service was also very good.
One of our most favorite restaurants in London. It is simple Italian food at it's very best in a lovely and elegant yet comfortable setting.
I used to love going to San Lorenz as service was impeccable and food was great. This time was a total disappointment. We asked to have a drink at the bar on arrival, however, the staff told us that they had a shortage of tables and that we needed to sit down right away. The restaurant was half empty throughout the night. The real disappointed was the food. The pasta had been standing under the heater for a very long time so the spaghetti was hard the sauce incredibly greasy and the taste was massively off. The night ended me getting sick.
