Lovely setting, delicious food and very reasonable! Easily our new favourite place. Only downside was the slow service though the staff was super friendly and nice!
Please read reviews. This place on paper looks like a great place to celebrate a special occasion or enjoy an elegant meal with amazing views of the seaside. Although the views hold up the rest does not.
A simple menu with prices suggesting a well cooked high quality meal. (£17) for a chicken burger & chips.
This is where is all falls apart. The food. The servers are quick to take your order and then bring over not once, twice but 3 times the wrong food.
We had asked for 2 plain chicken burgers with no slaw or mayo.. this seemed too much for the kitchen. We waited over 15 minutes for the kitchen to correct this while the rest of the food for the table went cold.
The FOH staff did apologise but it seemed like this was the standard they expected from the kitchen. The chips were also soggy but somehow also burnt.
The rest of the food was below expectations and we left without trying dessert.
Overall a ruined birthday for our guests.
Lovely birthday meal for Dad. Amazing setting, watched the sunset over the bay. Food was perfectly cooked, and the service was top notch.
Perfect evening - thank you Sands for making us feel so welcome.
One of the best views in Margate. I real feeling of an upmarket place ideal for celebrations. Pricey for an everyday lunch. Would love to see meal of the day giving value for money. The dining room is elegant, the staff are good and helpful
The burgers were not very tasty. Starter of belly pork was small. The twice cooked chips were soggy not very good. The menu lacks imagination but the view is amazing. I will only go back for sunset drinks.
Its a false economy to have just two servers (manager & trainee?). Servers were busy but couldn’t keep up. We asked for the sweet menu but no one came back to check what we wanted so we had ice cream on the beach. Our bill was circa £30 short as a round hadn’t been added and yes - we pointed this out and a revised bill was presented. We watched a few couples waiting ages to pay with one couple going to the service desk. Servers were very friendly, food was great but just add another person at lunch times??
My partner and I had a very pleasant early dinner. It was a beautiful sunny day and our table overlooked the seafront. My starter was a bit spicy but my main course was delicious. All in all a very nice experience with friendly staff.
Prompt & polite service. The Afternoon Tea was great.
Great setting, lovely food and excellent service. Fantastic sea views in a comfortable and smart environment.
Such a shame as this restaurant has so much potential. The views and decor are spectacular, but unfortunately the food and lack of staff training let it down. My food was cold, and they forgot to bring my kids meal. We had to ask twice for our bottled water and they bought my starter but didn’t bring cutlery to eat it for at least 6/7 mins.. so that went cold too. We gave our feedback to the manager, and he was very good and took off money from our bill. I would hope the next time we Visit they would of improved significantly as this place has so much potential if they take on board the feedback. Staff were very polite and friendly but need to improve with the simplicity of checking on customers to ask how they are enjoying the food, rather than just waiting for us to bring to attention we were not happy.
So disappointed. Service very slow to even get a drink. Food came out and had items missing. I questioned it but waitress didn’t come back. Tried my meal and it was disgusting. The fish was wet and very undercooked, skin slimy and horrid. Sitting on grey and cold smashed potatoes which were again wet and unseasoned. I couldn’t eat it. Waitress came back and did apologise and muttered something about the kitchen saying it should have gone out. They didn’t charge for my meal but too late to replace it as service so slow so I went hungry
The location and food was brilliant, but took 25 minutes just to get the menus :(, also noticed an elderly couple next to us experience waiting too long for food. Staff were very confused with tables and orders seems there was little organisation. Should definitely have been better for the price it is to eat there.
Great service, and really happy experience, would love to come and try the afternoon tea.
We requested before arrival that our food allergies should be taken into account ,which was onion and cucumber.
Our lunch we had arrived with spring onion on top of the food !
Then this morning , we ordered the English breakfast ( didn’t have the home made beans due to the allergies) and when asking the waiter if the bubble and squeak had onion in, he disappeared only to return after we had finished , not eating the bubble and squeak , to be told it does contain onion.
Whoever is monitoring your system is just not communicating with the kitchen staff , our allergies should have been thoroughly taken into account , and they we not. We are very dissatisfied with your communication system.
Our breakfast should be refunded !
Stunning location. Rooms good. Stayed for dinner and breakfast. 40 min wait each time and when food came it wasn’t very hot but we were too hungry to hand back.
We stayed overnight for my husband’s 60th, and it was lovely and quiet. The location of the hotel is very convenient for a beach visit. The room was quite pleasant, clean and tidy. The food was lovely and the service friendly. The only thing was that I had a quite refreshingly very cold shower. Just to mention, the hotel has a safe car park for guests, which is not expensive and not very far from the hotel. All in all, a good relaxing stay.
Lovely lunch with the sunshine streaming through from the balcony. Will definitely be back !
We had a lovely evening served by Violet. She’s an asset to the hotel; professional and friendly.
Great food and cocktails. I would recommend.
Cream tea booked for a long awaited Birthday treat, unfortunately there is a no star option so I had to give it 1 star! Worst cream tea/food and service have ever had including dirty crockery. Had there been an option to talk to anyone I would have, no one cared wasn’t even particularly busy and had the noise level of a rowdy football match so we left!
Very disappointing from such a beautiful hotel and extremely disappointing to have that as a birthday memory
No complaints following a most enjoyable dinner. We sat inside by the window with fabulous view over the bay and out to sea. My wife and I both had starters and mains (no deserts as we were too full) washed down with a lovely bottle of pink Pinot Grigio. Total cost was just under £80 so a little expensive but worth it for the ambience, views and quality of the food.
not the menu for a 4star hotel, nothing like id expected. such a lovely hotel really let down by a stinting breakfast nowhere as good as a premier inn and thats not very goodand as for dinner, great if you like a plate full of rocket.....
Good food in open plan environment with views of the sea. Friendly service
Not much choice on dinner menu. Internet menu showed a more extensive choice, which was not available when we arrived.
Breakfast good, but service very slow, despite only three tables sat simultaneously
Our first visit here and did love the ambience and the sea view. Service was good and the food very well presented. It's a cut above most Margate eateries but good value.
Generally a very good afternoon tea. New savoury selection ok but would still prefer a selection of sandwiches. Cake choice could have been better. A fancy decorated brownie is just a brownie.
Service was excellent.
We had a wonderful time at Sands Hotel restaurant
Unfortunately it was raining but the staff has been kind enough to accomodate us the best they could.
The food was very good and the view was so nice.
Would definitely come back !!
Surly greeting and ongoing service from the member of staff waiting on us. The view was lovely though.
Visited restaurant during pandemic, when operated with limited menu and outdoor seating. Food and view was fantastic. Worth asking questions on menu as the concept of "Small Plates" was slightly confusing. Altogether we had a great time.
Where do I begin? I had a booked up a table for a nice evening out away with my partner a few weeks in advance of travelling to Broadstairs . We were lucky to get one of the remaining reservations at 8pm. We had booked a cab which was running late due to lack of drivers and called ahead to advise them we were running late. I called 4 times, the first 3 times the phone going to answer machine. When finally they answered I was told that the table will be held, no problem.
We arrived at 820 and were seated and immediately told, “if you want food you better hurry up as the kitchen closes at 8!” Why book us a table in a restaurant at 8 if the kitchen closes at 8?! We were not told this in advance, or on the phone, but as we were seated. We were hungry and so ordered food, starters and dessert. These all came out together and we were told they wanted to get us out as soon as possible. The waiter was polite but not very helpful and after getting a manager, he apologised, comped the starter as we didn’t want eat the started whilst our main sat there getting cold and vice Versa. We quickly ate up and left.
I hope service improves once Covid is over - but this was a hugely disappointing.
£12 for fish in a bap... very little fish; very much bap. My bad; from the website it looked like there was a full menu, not just snack food. 🥴
Will try it again when kitchen fully open.
Lovely chilled evening enjoying the wonderful sunset views
Went for a 30th birthday for food and drinks. The service was amazing, especially Tom who kept an eye on if we needed anything. Unfortunately the food was pretty terrible, only good thing wsthe triple cooked chips. The chicken was grey, dry, overcooked and frankly not worth the high price. Having spent £200 felt a dissatisfied and ended up ordering food at home.
Good food, good location with perfect view on a sunny evening.
The staff at Bay and Sands are always impeccable and as always I felt welcomed - despite both staff and customers experiencing the freezing winds! It was still a superb experience 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Good food and atmosphere. Was slightly affected by the cold weather and having to sit outside due to social distancing regulations. The restaurant was very accommodating when we had to change the booking.
Beautiful setting with the sunset on the balcony - best dinner set up along the beachfront. Amazing food at a really good price.
Great spot in the sunshine!
Small plates were delicious and very friendly service.
Lovely atmosphere. Food was amazing. Highly recommended for a quiet lunch. Cocktails were beautiful.
Food was very good the view was fantastic could have been anywhere ! And the staff was fantastic . Especially Marika
Lovely views, friendly staff. Great wine list and good service.
