So... sit back...relax...swirl a glass of vino from the largest wine cellar in PA and enjoy the new Savona!
Some of my friends love Savona but I have eaten there 3 - 4 times over the last 10 years or so and have never been impressed. Today was no different. I got the Eggplant Napoletana. It looked very nice and I did appreciate the fact that the layers of eggplant were nice and thin and while it was fairly good I was unable to eat the bottom layer or 2 as well as one end as they were burnt. We also ordered the Golden Fried Artichokes which had a decent flavor but were greasy. My wife’s BLT was tasty but the ratio of BLT to bread was way off. I think next time someone wants to meet me a Savona, I’ll pass.
The food at Savona was delicious. My sole was the best dish at the table. The servers and other staff were friendly and informative. They were not however, very attentive. Perhaps they were super busy but it was a long time between seeing our server. Our beer was warm and we needed a glass of ice cubes for them. When it was brought to the server's attention they replied they were sorty about that. Our water kept running out. A number of folks came to our table to check in and wish us bon appetite but no one thought to keep the water glasses filled and we had to ask for them to be replenished.
Suggested by friend for me to treat them and one more to dinner. Friday night and noise level very high. Some sound suppression treatment would help. At suggestion of server all three of us ordered Dover Sole.
Very disappointed. Not fresh, very little taste and served with heavy souse. Dinner with medium priced bottle of wine($58) with tip was $360. Not a very good value!
This is a Gem
My boyfriend and I hadn’t been to Savona in some time so we decided to deviate from our normal haunts and made a reservation at Savona. Upon arriving they were ready to seat us promptly and we asked if we could have a drink at the bar first and the host said that was fine. The bartender, Talia, was such a delight we opted to sit at the bar for dinner. Service and food was outstanding- we will be back soon!
Food was good. Service was awful. Waited 20 minutes for drinks and had to seek out a manager (And witnessed an argument in the kitchen) who apologized but offered nothing. Waitress was non-existent. Don’t go here for a special occasion (it was my wife’s b-day).
Wonderful Sunday brunch! This is our new favorite spot and will try dinner next time.
Restaurant was on point in every way! Service and food were outstanding!!
The food was not all outstanding. The appetizer was excellent, the pasta regular (not al dente as in Italy). Desert ordinary. Mostly noise second floor makes the experience not that relaxing.
Super yummy tasting food. We loved the Margherita pizza! The entrees are delicious and good-sized portions. Restaurant has a cool vibe and amazing outdoor eating areas!!
Family Weekend at Villanova! We had a wonderful first evening dining at Savona!
Trrrible service. Food not nearly as good as I remember it a month or so ago. Yikes!
Food was excellent and our server Sebastian was great.
Savona has been one of my favorite restaurants for many years. The Dover sole is consistently outstanding, the veal Milanese is prepared to perfection, etc.... whatever they prepare, they execute very well. Service is always on point and the bar area is delightful. I have never experienced a noisy moment at this venue, even while crowded!
Menu has been reduced to too few choices. Upstairs dining smells from cooking fumes. Will not be returning so soon.
We really enjoyed our experience at Savona! The food was delicious, the ambiance was lovely, but the very best part about our meal was our delightful server, Olivia. She suggested wonderful dishes from the menu and her warm nature helped to enhance the evening. It is clear that Savona wants to make certain their patrons have a great dining experience.
We were there celebrating our 12th anniversary. Our server, Sebastian, was very knowledgeable as well as extremely polite and professional. I ordered the lobster risotto and my husband ordered veal milanese, which resembled instead, a German schnitzel covered in an enormous amount of arugula and grape tomatoes, which was way too excessive. The breading was over-burned and tasted like it was pan fire in old, rancid oil. Very unappetizing. He literally had two bites of it and stopped. The only thing he enjoyed was the lump crab cocktail. Not sure we’ll return
We celebrated our anniversary in style at Savona. The food &!ambiance was exceptional and the service by Sebastian was outstanding!
Overall we liked the dining experience. Food was great as well as our server Olivia. We were taken aback when we received the bill. There was a $.50 charge for ice which accompanied my order of scotch. I don’t want to sound picky but it was the same ice that was in our glasses of water. Given the small amount of the “over charge” we did not dispute it at the time. Disappointing that a restaurant of this caliber would charge for ice cubes.
Savona definitely matched the beautiful night and we were glad to be outside on the porch. Our server
was helpful and attentive and we enjoyed the delicious eggplant and perfectly seasoned brussels sprouts.
We would certainly return!
Nice dinner, good food, not superlative but good. Wait staff was great. Tried to seat us outside despite our previous request for window table. Grudgingly acquiesced! Very nice about it being our anniversary though...
Excellent food and fantastic service!!
Very disappointed. My husbands’ veal was so over cooked I couldn’t believe they would even serve something like that. Service was good but there are so many other fantastic restaurants to frequent. We had not been there in a long while,we remember it being such a special restaurant at one time but no more we won’t be going back.
Went on a Sunday night with a good friend and we had excellent food. Sadly, they were out of many favorites because it was the end of a busy weekend. But, the great service and ambience of the restaurant made up for that! Go earlier in the week rather than later!
Excellent on all counts. The service was attentive, the presentation was very good and the food was delicious. The bartender was in top form too. The Negroni I had was wonderful.
Everything was and is outstanding. Food, service, ambience always consistently excellent, especially with Chef Andrew
Nice ambiance. We ate upstairs and it was nice and fairly quiet. Food and service very good. Certainly plan to return.
Phenomenal dinner experience! This was a date night and it could not have gone better. Food, service, ambiance...Perfect!
Unfortunately my experience wasnt great. I was taking a client out and had to wait over 30 minutes for drinks to arrive and when they did , they were the wrong drinks. Food was great. However, I got cursed out by a cook when they almost walked into my car while leaving.
Lunch menu is terrific
Really loved Savona. Food was spot on, chef and kitchen staff did a wonderful job, and floor staff were all very pleasant and attentive. Would highly recommend.
Our party of 5 was seated outside at a very private table. The road noise was minimal, and it was a very comfortable ambiance. The service was impeccable (Sebastien), the food was tremendous and prepared to everyone's satisfaction. After reading through the extensive wine selection, Melissa (Master Sommelier) was quick to point us in the right direction. A wonderful night of celebration for my wife's birthday. Will return soon!!!
We arrived and where told we could not be seated outside as we requested in our reservation because of a problem with a table. We where then shown to a hightop table in the bar area in a very busy pass through spot. After one of our party told the host that the table was unacceptable we where told there where no tablea available in the dining room, though we could see several open. Finally after going back and forth we where given a table in the dining room. The rest of the evening was very enjoyable.
We really enjoy coming to Savona. The food, ambiance, and service are all enjoyable. Olivia is our waitress often as we request her. All the service people from Popie, to Kim, and all the others are very professional and helpful. It is one of our favorite restaurants.
Excellent food and service
Too noisy to have a conversation though
This place has great service and food, and at a convenient location. The outdoor seating area is nice and fully covered.
Appetizers were good, desert was delicious, cocktails were delicious, but main entrees (halibut and $55 special Cod?) were overcooked and boring. May be back for drinks and apps, might try the pizza.
Very welcoming when we arrived and very attentive staff. They knew about our special occasion and found ways to make it more special. Great for a special night out.
A very nice evening overall, and really a lovely time.
Service was attentive and timely (though I wish that servers would stop referring to patrons with the royal "we" as in how are "we" tonight. Ugh.)
Food was very good. Halibut was excellent (see below). Fried artichokes were delicious but a little too oily. Bread was pretty good with excellent olive oil. Outstanding cocktail.
A couple things to note:
I had the dover sole for $55, at the server's suggestion. It was ok but not worth the price. I tend to like my fish crispy/seared but sole should be buttery and melt in your mouth, and this wasn't. It wasn't bad--just not melt in your mouth $55 sole. My companion's halibut was much better.
My friend mentioned that it was my birthday and no fuss was made. I don't expect bugles and balloons, but I was a little disappointed that there was no acknowledgement at all other than "oh, happy birthday."
