Absolutely love this place for dinner or brunch. The service fantastic and friendly with a great local vibe.
Vegan options, amazing cocktails. Waitstaff exceptional. Really enjoyed our meals. Fun vibe!
Well it was GREAT and APPARENTLY I’ve never been here before and everyone just sits around EATS and then we go home and watch the POWERBALL
What a nice event Valentines Day dinner at the Savoy is! Caity Gallagher was a delightful entertainer, playing acoustic and singing a variety of quiet-ish songs for the packed-in crowd. I did not see an empty table in the dining room. Brian was once again our efficient and friendly server. We began with wine and coffee, our two necessaries. A shareable pair of caesar-salad & crab-cakes were perfect appetizers. We opted for salmon-with-asparagus & shrimp-and-grits as our main plates. We had intended to enjoy dessert, but we were content with what we had already, and so passed on the sweets. Next time! Living on Lark Street, we find ourselves quite fortunate to be able to walk to/from the Savoy. It is worth your effort if you drive and find parking to dine here ... for a holiday or before a downtown music or theater performance. Highly recommended!
I went with my two friends and we loved it! I had the vegan burger (the gluten free bun is vegan) and fries. Really good fries too. we had the vegan poutine appetizer which was really good and the seitan wings which were crispy and delicious. It was a little noisy, but the group next to us was having a party which is understandable. The ambiance was nice. The waiter was fantastic! He made sure since two of us were vegan to check and make sure our dishes were plant based. I will return.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. The service was great and the atmosphere was lowkey and chill. We had wings, steak, and salmon, and everything was delicious.
Savoy's food as well as drink selection is always divine! It is a little on the pricer side because it's downtown Albany, but the music experience is always free for all with plenty of seating in the viewing room. Always a pleasant experience with staff, and accurate meals! They have plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options for your dietary needs. LOVE their Ceasar Salad!
We made a reservation and got in right away. Very nice atmosphere, very relaxed. They had a reserved sign on our table which was set beautifully. We ordered a red wine which was great and a prosecco which was also great. We ordered burgers medium and they were cooked perfect and the fries were delicious. I would recommend to friends.
I loved Savoy from the moment I walked in. I hadn't been there in years and was so happy I went back! The service was great, my whiskey was phenomenal (maple cask) and the old fashioned was really yummy. Plenty of vegetarian options for me, which is unusual. I will definitely be going back!
Staff was great... food great and good music in the bar area.
Thanks for the great review!
It was a Tuesday night so fairly quiet. It appeared they had a band playing late but not in the time we were there. We had a big group for a birthday. Food was excellent, service was friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and look forward to going again soon!
Waitress was great but food took over 1 1/2 hours to arrive.
Visited Albany to go a concert at the Times Union Center and grabbed dinner beforehand.
Cool bar. Nice air conditioned dining room. Very very good food and friendly and helpful staff. If we lived in Albany, I imagine that this would be our regular spot.
It was slow , only 1 other table when we arrived .
Service was very slow .
2 of the 4 dinners were ice cold .
they said my meal would come with garlic bread, but I received pita bread with no garlic to be found
Dinner at Savoy Taproom was delicious! We had great service, food and drinks. We definitely will be back soon!
Happy St. Patrick's Day! The Savoy probably had a crowd on Saturday, but Sunday dinner, with no entertainment on stage, was nice and quiet ... at least early at 6pm when we dropped in. Keith J was our cheerful and efficient server. He kept a close eye on us, with other tables competing for his attention. My coffee cup never ran dry. Corned beef and cabbage & Shepherd's pie were our perfect entrée selections. Bangers and mash competed for our favor, which rounded out their nice holiday menu. A ginger crème brûlée finished off our Sunday dinner in style. Sláinte!
They did a great job considering they got sea,ped with groups coming in for dinner before the Elton John show at the Times Center.
Dinner was great! The Brussels Sprouts are AMAZING!
The Savoy Taproom is always a pleasure, for different reasons on different nights of the week. Valentines Day's jazz dinner with Jeff Nania was lively and entertaining! On the other hand, a Sunday evening might be quiet. Special's on Valentines Day included a wasabi salmon and a surf and turf plate with sliced beef, shrimp, scallops, and cheese grits. We opted for classic appetizers of caesar salad and curry squash soup. Brian was our friendly and efficient waiter. He allowed us to pace ourselves during the first set of music, but he was always around when I needed another coffee refill. The Savoy is a hopping anchor to funky Lark Street. Bar seating is plentiful, if you just need a drink or small bite, but the comfortable dining room is terrific for a casual or a dressy dinner ... and a it's nice music venue when there is a band on stage! Highly recommended!
The food here is fantastic; however, the service was slow and our waitress didn't communicate to us what was going on. We had to ask for water refills despite her walking by many times and seeing our glasses were empty. It was also 6:30 on a Friday evening and they were already out of things without there even being a wait in the restaurant. The menu is delicious, but it's small. Being out of things seems like a pretty big fail under those circumstances. It was our first time here. I might try it one more time because the food and drinks were good, but I even had to track my waitress down to get my check. Great food, but you better have some time and patience.
I thought the drink menu was fun! The food and even serving the drinks took way too long. Our appetizers were served at the same time as the drinks, and then food came out at different times for our party, which is always awkward!
Overall, good, but service needs to be aligned a bit better.
A fun, laid back easy environment with good food and drink. Food was creative and well done, reminded me of NYC a little.
Excellent drinks and fantastic food. Flavors were amazing. Live music was great too.
Great spot for pre-concert dinner and drinks. Happy Hour tacos at $4.50 each are very well made with delicious ingredients.
Very good neighborhood gastropub!
We were looking for someplace new for date night. We were very pleasantly surprised at Savoy. The food was great. We absolutely loved the wings and cocktails. I got the gnocchi pesto and my husband got the hanger steak. The steak was fantastic. The gnocchi was ok. The staff were very friendly. We plan on going back to try 2 other dishes. You can go casual shorts and T-shirt’s or dress it up for date night.
Wonderful experience. Great ambiance. Lively for a weekend night but not overwhelming. The service was delightful and attentive. Can't say enough about the food. Appetizers and entrees were perfectly prepared and delicious. Each mouthful was loaded with flavor. We will definitely be back and look forward to trying some new selections on the menu.
I am a gluten sensitive vegetarian and really enjoyed having the choice of several options, which were very good. But I have to mention how awesome the French fries are. I will be back, even if it were just for the fries.
Loved the potato soup! The live music was an extra bonus. The "Ramblin Drifters" were a lot of fun. I would definitely go there again.
We found Savoy through Facebook. It has become a weekly visit for us; whether brunch or dinner. The food options are great and never disappoint us.
Came here for restaurant week. My friend got a pint and drink special, I grabbed their three course offering for the night. Took 3 hours to get all of our food after ordering although they only had about five tables. We never were checked in on other than when our food was brought to us, water was never refilled.
The food got to me cold with each course. It wasn’t very great, either. My chicken was over cooked and the spice wasn’t pleasant it was far too strong. Took my friend half an hour to get the pint she ordered without even an apology.
The ambiance is weird, the lights kept flickering while we were there and one burst. It smelled heavily of smoke.
Would not go here again
We had a great time on this most recent visit. Nick F was our very patient server, as we slowly navigated the drinks, apps, and entrées options on a busy Saturday night. We were thrilled to be seeing Arielle O'Keefe (Girl Blue) just down the street from where we live on Lark Street. Jimi Woodul was also great on guitar. We look forward to seeing Dark Honey & Girl Blue again soon, and we look forward to dropping in on the Savoy for food and/or music just about any old time! Highly recommended.
This review is not for the food neither food service. Do not reserve through Open Table!!!!. I was told by bartender/host they have subscription to open table and they don’t use it. (Don’t ask me why). I made a reservation to have dinner here and when i got there I found this situation.. They didn’t honored the reservation I had and he told me they were booked. He was pretty cut and dry with me, however he took reservation for other people that got there after me. We didn’t like the ambiance anyway, it was more like a bar than a restaurant, so we didn’t stay for drinks either based on the fact it was a special occasion for me and my girlfriend and we were not looking for that.
Hostess was a no show the night we went. That being said, the gentleman who greeted us said he'd check on our reservation (I made through Opentable AND called to confirm). After 10 minutes, we realized he wasn't returning, and found a table. The service was not only slow, but not able to recognize that we were without drinks, and silverware. Don't ask if everything is okay when one guest hasn't received their meal yet, and the other 3 haven't tasted theirs due to lack of utensils. Fingers crossed that they get their act together because the food was tasty, and the menu, inventive. Good luck!
We came here on New Years Eve and had an early-ish reservation. At first we were seated in the 'dining room', which was practically deserted and had no heat. It was about 5 degrees outside... not fun! After requesting that the heat be turned up , there seemed to be a problem with that so we asked to move into the bar room where it was warmer (although there it was still pretty chilly). All of this to say that the ambiance wasn't the greatest I've had, but they tried their best to accommodate.
As for the food. Menu was of course limited due to NYE. The selections we made were delicious (burrata for an appetizer, then short rib and duck for our entrees) . I thought the food quality was pretty good. The short rib was incredibly fatty and had very little edible meat, but I thought everything else including the sides was quite good. They also had a very nice cocktail menu and draught beer selection. Our server was excellent.
Would definitely try again when we have the full menu, and maybe when it's a little warmer!
Great food and jazz! Service was strong and, although the music was a bit loud for the venue, it was a very enjoyable experience and meal. The coffee creme brûlée was outstanding!
Quick getting a seat, great service, fantastic food. I loved the steamed clams and the steak.
