We hope to see you again.
Sawyer is a casual yet chic new American restaurant and bar located in the heart of Ballard’s burgeoning restaurant scene. Designed for family style sharing, our menu is made up of large and small plates inspired by food that people crave, with a focus on technique, whimsy, and comfort. Featuring floor to ceiling windows, exposed beams and cozy booths, the renovated 1920s sawmill includes a main dining room, full bar and all-seasons enclosed patio.
Great place located right in the heart of Ballard. Fantastic staff and food!
Fantastic food - amazing flavors! The pork steam bread tacos were outstanding, but everything was excellent.
Excellent restaurant! Great food, good service. Highly recommend!
Very slow service at a slow time in the restaurant (took 45 mins to get food and the restaurant was 1/2 empty!)
Only been here for Sunday brunch but the food is super yummy. No other place I’ve been to for brunch in Seattle is as consistently good as this place in every regard. My kids love it too.
Keep doing what you are doing Sawyer, except would be nice if you added Saturday brunch too.
Food was generally good quality and presentation was great. However, some items lacked seasoning and flavor and can be ameliorated through the use of spices or sauces. The service was lacking for a restaurant of this caliber, as our waiter occasionally disappeared and did not check in even as we would have liked to order cocktails or additional items.
One of the best meals that I have had in a while. Each dish was amazing! Loved the tuna crisp, artichokes, the gnocchi, scallops, duck and hands down one of the best burgers that I have ever had. Dilly bar was out of this world amazing end to our meal. Reasonable corkage, attentive staff and a cute space make a Sawyer top of my list. Definitely going back!
AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE. Would highly recommend it. Whatever you do, do not leave without trying the Gnocchi. It is life changing.
Food was very tasty, cocktails were great, and server was very nice. The only thing I wouldn't order again is the wood-fired artichoke. It was well-prepared, but a lot of work to eat. Also, other food came out before we could finish the artichoke. We were celebrating our anniversary, and the restaurant was nice enough to give us dessert on the house, which really added to our positive impression of Sawyer. Restaurant is on the expensive side, so better for special occasions.
First time there. Will be back!!!
We took our family of 4 (9 and 5 year-olds) for my husband’s birthday dinner. I had never heard of Sawyer, but it had great reviews on Open Table so I thought we would give it a shot. There is no kids’ menu, but the food is family style so I figured they would eat something and maybe I wouldn’t waste money on food they didn’t eat. Well, although there is nothing on the menu that says they cater to kids, they more than accommodated my kids including special dog-shaped kid serving dish. The food was delicious. My favorite: pork belly buns, tuna crudo, and the scallops. We will definitely come back. (My kids’ favorite was the plain hamburger- it was delicious and my kids ate the entire thing and it was good size).
Not only was the service efficient but the internal structure and decor of the restaurant is aesthetic. I love how there are booths/cubbys with tall walls to make your dining experience more private. The huge glass windows are a plus with ample natural lighting. The food is delicious! I went for brunch and left very full and happy. I would recommend this place for brunch with friends and family. I think it would be really nice in the summer, too!
Service was incredibly slow with no acknowledgement of the wait time - most dishes took over an hour to come out.
The food is absolutely delicious and so interesting! The combination of ingredients seems odd at times but it really works. Our waiter was fabulous and was very knowledgable about the wines.
Enjoyed the food very much!
Used to be a great restaurant when it opened. Menu has not changed since, and the same things I’ve preferred have got worse. I bet the chef and any good cooks left because the owner would not change menu... it happens... it’s sad...
Really cool place. Beautiful restaurant, spacious, open, high ceilings, big windows. Great food and perfect service. Cannot wait to come back. Funny, I came home and told our daughter about our great experience on Friday night and she went on Saturday night. Keep up the great work Sawyer!
Sawyer was awesome! Everything is family style, lots of tasty, creative flavors. It is a little pricey, but worth it for a special night.
Relaxed, warm, friendly atmosphere. Wonderful waiter who put us at ease and took great care of us. Cocktails were creative and delicious. Food menu is moderately sized but everything we had was first rate. A thoroughly enjoyable experience!
Really great food in a comfortable atmosphere. Expensive but not overpriced by today's standards for new restaurants in Ballard
We’re from Portland, OR and we have great food in our town, however, we were very impressed by the creativity and flavors at Sawyer’s. Loved the spuds, beet salad, sweet potato tostada and dilly bar in particular.
We plan to return soon! The staff is amazing..... attentive, welcoming, genuine and extremely helpful. After our first visit, we have a better idea of portions for the various dishes —- most were very generous and definitely shareable! We are eager to return
Love this place. Its great food, good cocktails and a nice atmosphere.
Spectacular. Food was fantastic, servers friendly, prices reasonable, environment upbeat. Best restaurant in our 25 years Seattle.
A lovely meal spent by myself. The food was amazing, made even better by Avery’s fantastic service and warmth. I’ll be back next time I’m in town.
Great ambiance and friendly staff. The gnocchi and wagyu animal-style burger were excellent. My only gripe was the pork belly steamed buns.
The buns were nice and fluffy, but the pork belly itself was really under seasoned. You read the accompanying ingredients on the menu expecting a flavor punch, but the whole dish was shockingly lacking in taste. However, the price is only $9, one of the cheaper menu items, so it didn’t bother me too much overall. I read a lot of favorable reviews of this dish online, so my rating reflects the high likelihood that maybe I just got a below average batch. Stuff happens!
Our server, Thursday -2/20 evening, was very helpful and attentive and answered all questions asked and provided guidance when requested. We were greeted and seated at our reservation time.
With all the hard surfaces, we were pleasantly surprised that the noise level was not too loud.
And the food & beverages were VERY good!
Enjoyed the food and drink so much. Great vibe too.
The food was fantastic. I eat dairy free so the waitress was very helpful letting me know what items I could get. I was surprised they were able to make me a dairy free version of their crispy garlic potatoes which were some of the best I ever had. I also had an asian-inspired tuna dish that was equally good. I liked the ambiance and look of the place. It was a cool place to get dinner and I will be back again. My only complaint is that it's a little pricier than standard Seattle fare, but I thought it was worth it.
Overall, the food and service were both outstanding
Wonderful dishes and great advice from the wait staff, can’t wait to go again and bring more friends!
Always unique. Classics with a twist, as they say. The menu changes frequently, so it's hard to recommend anything as it may not be on the menu the next time. The best thing to do is to ask your server. They have always been extremely pleasant and knowledgeable.
The meal this time was a little on the salty side, but otherwise, quite delicious. We shared 3 plates and had dessert. That was plenty for 3 people.
It took 20 minutes after being seated to be acknowledged...no water, no drinks, not even a courtesy “I’ll be right with you”. Then, even though the brunch menu is limited, the only item that made me want to come here (cinnamon roll monkey bread) I was told they are out of and the kitchen is not making more... Overall, I was disappointed and do not plan on returning. Sad, because I was really looking forward to a nice brunch.
I love going to Sawyer. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable. The menu is always changing and the food never disappoints. 10 out of 10 will come back again and again.
Sawyer's is my favorite Ballard restaurant and I have eaten there many times. I have yet to have a bad meal or bad experience there. I always bring friends and family and have introduced Sawyer's to many people who always enjoy it too!
Went for valentine's day. Shared three dishes from the a la carte menu. My favorite was the foie gras/banana bread. Scallop dish was a good portion but could have used acid for balance. I wouldn't recommend sitting in the outer portion from the main building as the lighting and seating is less comfortable.
Great V day experience. Food quality and the service were both top notch. Cocktails were great as well. Overall a very memorable experience - would definitely go again. One thing the prevented a 5 star rating on the food and the overall experience is that the most of the menu ( we had 5-6 items) leaves a sweet aftertaste even for the savory items.
Every dish we got was absolutely amazing! I normally can think of some thing I would change and I cannot think of anything. The service was exceptional.
You must go here! We will be back for sure.
No wonder it's hard to get a reservation here - everything is terrific and the prices are superior to less accomplished competition.
I can't say enough good things about Sawyer. Everything was amazing.
