Scoff & Banter - Bloomsbury
Guided by the directions of the UK Government, we have made the regrettable yet necessary decision to close our restaurant until further notice.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and loyalty during these uncertain times.
At Scoff & Banter, we celebrate hearty and traditional British cuisine, with a contemporary twist.

Great place to meet and chat. Lovely service but they all took way too long to give us water. Very apologetic when they noticed. Burger was delicious. Lovely wine. Super location. Near the British Museum and just minutes from TCR.
Food was good, level of service was excellent until they didn’t give us our drinks. They charged us & had to be told twice to remove it from the bill! Apart from that, overall experience was really good. Gave us a birthday cake for my boyfriends birthday for free - nice touch!
I love this place and the cocktails. Both are good value and very tasty. The waiter could have been a little friendlier and warmer. The place is spotlessly clean.
Lovely meal after a visit to a busy British Museum. Interesting menu with something for all tastes and service was fantastic, very attentive waitresses. Would definitely go back next time we're in the area.
It was ok. Nice meal. Nothing memorable. Would eat there again for convenience rather than choice.
Lovely airy restaurant in a hotel - small menu, well executed with good vegetarian options too. Service was good, attentive but not too intrusive. My friend's birthday and they added thoughtful touches too. Would go back and try their afternoon tea, not too far from Oxford Street too so good location.
Been here on several ocassions and would always highly recommend it, on this ocassion the service wasn't its usual excellent level. Felt very rushed as it was Valentine's day which was disappointing. Though in generally love this place and this one evening will not stop us coming again.
This is without doubt, the best food I have eaten in a long time! The service was superb, everything was delicious and I will definitely be coming again.
Nice food, good service. We had a very pleasant meal here. Would go again
This is a very average venue with food to match. It’s not a place for anything other than a quick bite to eat. The ambience is that of a dining room attached to a hotel lobby so it feels a little like an after thought to a hotel than somewhere you’d choose to go and eat. It was quiet but service was still a little slow.
Meeting our son for lunch, perfect ambiance and location to talk.
Very attentive staff and delicious food
My wife and I have eaten here on quite a few occasions whilst staying at the Radisson in Great Russell Street On our last visit in July 2019 we were disappointed, as we felt the service was below par, not only for our evening meal but also for breakfast the following morning . No such issues this time; we arrived early for a drink in the bar and then into the dining area for our evening meal. All the staff were kind and friendly and the meal was delicious. I had a perfectly cooked Sirloin Steak and my wife had the sea bass which she thoroughly enjoyed. We returned to the bar for a drink after the meal and the excellent service continued. Should also add that service at breakfast the following morning was also excellent and I have no complaints whatsoever. Will definitely be returning to Scoff on our next stay at the Radisson.
Had previously visited the scoff and banter in Knightsbridge which was a far nicer experience. We went on a Saturday evening, the restaurant was nearly empty and the decor was tired and really rather dull. The service was fine and the food was good but it didn’t feel as nice a place to be as the other restaurant and really the food was quite expensive for such an ordinary place to be.
The food was overpriced and not at all exceptional. I could have cooked better at home.
Food was very good, and place had a good ambience. Had overflow room to ourselves, so low noise; but main room was noisy.
Booked theatre and meal package from link on their own website, yet they were not informed of this, took photos of my email confirmation, and then asked me to forward to them. Also, ordered dessert, finished mains before 7pm; but they didn’t clear dishes until 7:12, and show started at 7:30, so had to cancel order. How could they not have known this? Had 2 free Proseccos with reservation as part of January promotion, as ordered 2 meals not in package, but they tried to charge us for them. Bill was over 1/3 higher than should have been, due to this and charging more than advertised price for meals. Had to have them recalculate 2x. Would order tickets and meal package separately in future, as realised after purchase would have been less. Liked food, but hassle with dessert and cheque dissuades me from returning.
We really enjoyed our first visit to Scoff & Banter. Lovely food and great service. Thank you
We had such a mixed experience at Scoff & Banter. The service was friendly and welcoming but slow and awkward - drinks came in drips and drabs, waiter said one thing but then did something else.
The food was pretty good. The beef in the Sunday Lunch was exceptional - its so often average that I never order roast beef but one of our party took the risk and it was really nice. The downfall was the "cauliflower cheese" which had no noticable cheese anywhere near it and so much truffle it was inedible. And then the "Eton Mess" which was a scoop of caramel ice cream (WTF?) with a meringue disk on top and some macerated strawberries around the edges. I hate it when restaurants mess with Eton Mess.
The real sticking point of all of this was the children's menu. We asked if they could do a child's size portion of the Sunday Lunch as we were told yes. Child then got a full size portion and we were charged full price. Ordered desserts for the children from the children's menu (specifically, clearly asking for the Children's Menu option) and were also charged full price. My sister was treating me and my children and she didn't want a fuss so she paid it without questioning it. I would have said something but it was awkward between us - which sort of spoiled the whole thing.
Oh and they charged us the same price for a Virgin Mary as a Bloody Mary which feels outrageous for a glass of spicy tomato juice.
If they could get the service right, train the staff properly and sort out their pricing then I'd go back. The Sunday Lunch was really nice - just everything else was a let down.
1st visit to the restaurant and will definitely be going back.
The restaurant was very nice as I expected it be. The food was excellent and the value was very reasonable. I will definitely go back there.
Fantastic food, fantastic staff, great background music, can’t really get much better for your money! Would definitely go again!
Good service, excellent food
Had a very good Christmas day evening meal did have to wait over an hour for the first course but the food quality was excellent and the staff did their best .
We reserved a table for Christmas Eve, but eventually left the restaurant after an hour of waiting, as the food was still not ready after this time. Apparently somebody dropped the order in the kitchen. The worst part however was, that this was not communicated to us at all, and only told after we inquired to the current state of the food. The staff also seemed to be in a constant state of stress and incapable of handling a very moderate number of guests. (around 70 percent of the tables were used in the time we waited).
Really nice place - staff are pleasant and just friendly enough
The food is good as is the drinks menu
Clean, nice surroundings and welcoming
Would definitely visit again for a reasonably priced dinner with friends
The service was terrible.
Firstly one of the dishes were a medium rare steak which came to us well done. When we showed the waitress she said that’s how it is as it was a thin piece of meat, so as she didn’t offer to take it back we then had to ask her to take it back.
We ordered a few dishes which they took the order for only to find out ten minutes later they did not have any left. We also ordered two hot chocolates at the end of the evening and even asked the waiter to check if two had been ordered after five minutes and only one came through.
Terrible service. Shambles of a meal
Food delicious- only criticism was roast potatoes were tiny & not really roasted
Cocktails very nice
Room a little cool at times as 2 doorways in & when they both opened there was a cold draft
Food was lovely, Nice and quiet, lovely inside and very clean. But we went for the festive menu and although the food and cocktail it came with was lovely, there was nothing festive about the table setting or restaurant and we had to request crackers... Could have been far more 'christmassy' for a festive meal out. We were put in a corner by ourselves which was a little isolating but it was nice. Service was good and they were very attentive, but we had some confusion regarding our meals as there were 9 people. This was quickly resolved though! Staff could have been a little more 'cheery' especially seeing as it was Christmas too! But overall very impressed, just needed to be more festive in the table setting if you're going to offer a festive menu.
Overpriced for very poor dishes which bore little resemblance to the menu descriptions.
Service was so bad manager removed service charge without me having to ask !
We went for the set meal (main and dessert) and ordered. Staff were very pleasant and attentive. We were asked if it would be ok for a 15-20 minute wait for our main course and said yes. We ended up waiting much longer than that. Then the dessert course took way too long too and without any warning.
Basically after an hour and twenty minutes we were still waiting for our second course.
The point of this set meal is that its supposed to be a simple affair in a pre theatre dont want to wait too long way. As such we ran out of time and did not have time to eat our dessert because everything took so long to arrive.
This might have been acceptable if it was the same for everyone but we watched a couple next to us served two courses in forty five minutes whereas we were still waiting for our second course at 1 hour and twenty minutes
We complained to both the waitress and her manager about this, They were both very pleasant and polite about it but were full of excuses and refused to admit that this was not acceptable service.
For a mess like that Id expect not to pay for a meal. We were offered a complimentary coffee. We will be complaining to head office and asking for a full refund.
The service was absolutely terrible. i wouldn't recommened this restuarant to anybody.
We had the pre theatre menu which was good value. Food very light and vlean tasting. I was disappointed that I did not have any bread offered with my cured salmon and had to nick a slice of bread from my ftiend who had ordered soup. We did however love the ambiance we wanted quiet and thats what we got. We had hit the chaos that was Oxford street so were very happy there were no rowdy parties. We also arrived an hour before our booking but we were accommodated. Service was good not over gushy. Would happily recommend.
Lovely meal, service good up until dessert when they got busy. Still good food though!
Pleasantly impressed by the quality of food on offer at Scoff we picked the restaurant for the convenience of the location primarily, and had read the menu in advance, so we were aware that the dishes on the menu looked appetising if not especially adventurous. However, if our selections were anything to go by, what they do, they do VERY well. Excellent steaks in particular - generous and cooked to perfection. One curiosity we observed was that some of the wines that were available by the glass were not available by the bottle.
The dining room itself was lovely - generous with space, so we didn't feel cheek-by-jowl with any neighbours.
We had to wait around 45 minutes for the afternoon tea to arrive; when we asked (just before the food did arrive), and pointed out how long it had been, the waitress just said “I know” which wasn’t really what we were looking for. We also had to ask for the tea that’s supposed to come with the nibbles. The sandwich bread was stale - possibly it had been sat waiting for us for 45 minutes, as we had been waiting for it. The macarons were pretty cold especially in the middle, so I suspect they’d been defrosted badly before the tea. I’ve had a few different afternoon teas, in London, at the same price bracket and this fell far short of the usual standard expected. It was a shame, as this was for a birthday celebration.
Booked for a meal before we went to the Dominion Theatre, great location less than 5 mins away.
Sat in the bar area, a bit noisy as there were groups having drinks in the bar, service good and food good.
Would definitely book the place again if we needed a meal in the same area
Really tasty food - quick service (slightly slower at getting the bill). Very nice place. Would go back.
Great choices of little plates for lunch or brunch
Plenty of choice from either a la carte menu or fixed price 2 or 3 courses. Went for the winter menu, 3 course with a turkey toast option and a delicious gin, apple and cinnamon cocktail.
Good menu with good choice for vegetarians as well as meat and fish dishes. Portions were perfect - neither too large or too small. Staff were attentive without being intrusive and were very welcoming. Would definitely recommend.
I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone. Very nice food and good service.
