What Insiders Are Saying
Sea Containers is the very cool-looking restaurant inside the Mondrian Hotel. It’s great for breakfast and lunch meetings, and group dinners.
i loved the food. the service was ok and the ambience is nice but its a bit empty for a big restaurant
Decent food and good service but the atmosphere spoiled by music which was not suited to relaxed dining and was also too loud.
Food was ok if a bit dry an a bit salty. It was tho expensive compared to the actual quality of food
Fantastic food. Really interesting hotel and decor. Service was great.
The restaurant is very nice and trying to bring in a young crowd but it misses just a bit on the food. The food is good but is only about 80% of the way there in what it want to be. Example- hand made pasta-great, fresh veggies-great, drowning in oil-bad. Just needs a bit of work and they will get there.
Beautiful restaurant, nice menu, average food, overstretched service.
Ettore served us on Sunday for lunch and really made our visit - very friendly but not obtrusive. Nice burgers and atmosphere - good option for Southbank away from the family-friendly hustle
Beautiful food, fine wine and good service.
Overall a good dining experience!
Table with view of Thames and iconic buildings.
Food was nice.
Desserts are the winners here! The cheesecake option was delicious!
I would recommend as a brunch, but a quiet sit down meal, maybe not!
We enjoyed our meal here. The menu at lunch time was very limited but the dishes we ordered were lovely.
Also the first glass of wine I ordered was corked and they replaced it no problem at all.
I have to be honest, I came here a couple of years ago when they had seating upstairs and I thought it was great especially with the balcony. But not they had one menu everything was a sharing platter! the service was very slow when it came to making drinks, the food was actually really nice but there were only 4 options on the menu! (they said it was because they were redoing the kitchen) personally, I thought it was much better when they had the upstairs restaurant. And for the price I paid I was very disappointed.
It's so unfortunate to visit a restaurant just to find out that half of the items in the menu are not available. This was the case with sea containers. Very basic food and extremely expensive. Will not visit again.
Clumsy service, average food, high prices. A food critic's nightmare trifecta. Avoid.
The service was really poor, we waited so long for the food. We were told by the waiter that the delay is because a private party is going on which is absolutely unacceptable. They served us another round of the same drink that we had for free as an appology. They forgot to bring one of the starters that we ordered, and brought it later with the mains. One of the main dishes wasn’t warm enough and it was quite cold. Overall I don’t recommend it and it’s a shame because the location and atmosphere is nice. It was a Birthday occasion and I felt embarrassed in front of my guest.
Very friendly staff. Food served at just the right time spacings to enjoy it and the quality of the food was great. Bit expensive, but I guess that’s the price you pay for eating with a view of the Thames in London.
Food good and good location, but service was painful slow. Ruined the evening
Service was impeccable and extremely professional and friendly.
Food was fresh and came promptly
This is a great place to meet with friends for brunch
Appalling service to begin with until our service staff changed and then it improved. Great feed and atmosphere for a birthday.
I am a regular at 12th Knot and Dandelyan and have always enjoyed the experience. I had the same expectations of the restaurant, but sadly I was rather disappointed. The food was good but way overpriced and the place was almost empty even if it was a Wednesday.
Desperate service. An hour’s wait for a few poached eggs.
Dinner with my daughters.
I think this restaurant charges premium prices for average food because it has a very nice view. I would recommend going for lunch or dinners in the summer, when you can sit outside on the river. The service was a bit suspect, even though the restaurant was not that busy. Overall, it was just very average and for the price I think there are better options.
Loved it! Was such a lovely meal with great service. Couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you x
Poor quality food and drinks. Runny, watery Bloody Mary, smoothies provided in the same bottle you buy in a supermarket. Card machines didn’t work.
The menu at Sea containers in no way reflects the ambience of the location. Choices are limited, the food is a strange selection of dumbed down American staples and fast food. The wine list was very expensive and strikingly out of sync with the food on offer. All in all a disappointment as I had wanted to visit for a long time due to its great location. Service was average.
Beautiful setting, excellent and friendly service, food was superb. Had a wonderful evening. Highly recommended.
Portions too small and overpriced. Lacking choice on menu.
Great setting, food and ambience. Get a table by the window for the views
A venue enjoyed by my clients for its location and views along the Thames. A wonderfully passionate Italian waiter who enthusiastically presented the menu and options for food and drink. The sharing approach for starters and mains worked well. With an ambience conducive to good conversation. In a nice, contemporary styled dinning room.
Lovely setting, very attentive
The menu is very poor. If you want one choice of food and your partner wants another there is not much to choose from. The so called sharing menu does not work! Also it would be nice to have a dinner menu in the evening rather than medium quality all day snacks.
I suggest you sack your chef.
We enjoyed this as a great place to have a quick meal before the theatre. The range of choice on the menu is a little underwhelming, since several dishes are to be shared--such as roast chicken. If nobody else in your party is in the mood to share, this restricts your options! However, the Caesar salad with chicken that I had was perfect and one of the best I've had in awhile. The wines by the glass are a little overpriced, even for a smart London restaurant, but the rosé was also spot on. Service was quick, seamless, and very friendly. What would be an amazing view of the Thames is a little marred by a white picket fence that runs across the terrace at nearly eye-level height. The room itself seemed a bit chilly design-wise (though the temperature was fine), but on the up side there's more than adequate space between tables, and the noise level was low. Overall, I'd definitely visit again for a pleasant place to enjoy a meal on the South Bank.
My coat get stained when it was taken to the cloakroom.
Went on saturday for Brunch with 7 other friends. The service was really quick and the food was tasty. Thought it was quite reasonable for a bottomless brunch with a fab view of the thames!
Sea Containers Restaurant is a great lunch location on the South Bank. It’s obviously a firm favourite with business people and it’s dark decor has a business vibe about it. The menu is based on sharing plates so if you stick to one plate between two the price isn’t unreasonable- it does creep up however if you want more than one starter for example. The cocktails are excellent and the food was very tasty and well presented. Service is good and there are lovely views if you have a window table. Not the cheapest place but worth a try!
No - this place drives me mad. Should be brilliant. Amazing building and location...but service always terrible - slow, meandering, clumsy...and the food?? We were in at 10am with a client for brunch...and we really don't want to be helping ourselves to aged scrambled eggs on a buffet. really poor - it's like you've given up. this should be an absolute haven for the business crowd in the area and it's always two thirds empty. Get some help!!!!
Service was very friendly, though it was very empty on our weekday lunch visit. Food has changed several times in the past year or so, with a simpler more pared down menu this time. Overall food was prepared well with an eye on details. The open kitchen seems to have gone though, so question is why this is now the case. Still, it's a stylish dining space...just seems like the soul has gone out a bit from this resto compared with our previous visits in the past.
We were there for bottomless brunch to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Requested for a birthday candle with the dessert on email, phone and on arrival at the restaurant and it was still forgotten. Had to remind the staff again and very unapologetic attitude. Repeatedly, we had ti remind the staff to top up our drinks. Overall the staff were cold and inattentive.
Great food and generous bottomless brunch, regularly topped up. Lovely service, they bought a surprise cake for my friend's birthday.
