What Insiders Are Saying
Sea Containers is the very cool-looking restaurant inside the Mondrian Hotel. It’s great for breakfast and lunch meetings, and group dinners.
Very nice food and lovely to try some new flavours and combinations. Wine was nice but of course everything is on the pricey side. We had a set menu with a voucher so cannot comment on portion size and value on a normal basis but good portions. Steak was a little tough in places but very tasty.
We were a large party of 11 and they managed to ensure our food arrived all together. Meal very nice and lovely drinks. Sadly a rainy day but view over Thames super.
Repas en famille
Eight of us went for Sunday brunch:lunch. The kitchen was very good to accommodate my gluten free need. We had 3 of the shared roast dinner options- chicken/beef and fish all were delicious. The side orders were nice too. We had a big round table and due to music it was quite hard to hear across the table- but it could be we are older and harder of hearing. Waiting staff were super and we would definitely go again. Dining chairs are really comfortable so ideal if a long chatty lunch with friends
Friendly staff in a pretty location. The food is clearly of good quality and the limitless prosecco for £19 is good value but that's as far as it goes. Small portions and high prices. Won't be repeating.
Booked a table for Sunday brunch after a heavy night. Just what the doctor ordered!
Great table by terrace, polite and friendly waiter. The food was delicious (we didn’t take up the £19 bottomless drinks but was a great offer). Good atmosphere with fab decor. Walked along Southbank, all in all a lovely way to spend a Sunday.
We were hugely impressed with our dining experience at the Sea Containers restaurant. We were staying at the Hotel for part of my partner’s birthday surprise weekend so I decided to book a meal in the restaurant. We were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and attentive without being over-familiar or intrusive! We had three wonderful courses and all we can say is compliments to the Chefs. The food was sensational! The stand-out dish for me was the pan seared salmon but it would be hard to choose just one course as they were all scrumptious! The decor was gorgeous and the ambience was perfect for a great meal out. We also experienced breakfast in the restaurant the next morning and that was equally delicious and plentiful. Thank you so much! We will return.
Really gorgeous food and staff friendly but not the quickest on the bottomless top ups, several times we were sat with empty glasses for over 10 mins. Other than that it was perfect!
Great location, attentive service and the food was excellent (try the roast chicken and onion sauce, it’s really good). Definitely recommended and we will be back!
Great food and great service. BUT I think asking for 12.5% service charge and a gratuity on top is too much. Our server was great, but this isn't America. 12.5% is enough to tip for him and the rest of the team. It's pretty cheeky asking for another gratuity on top. I think the food and the service warrants the menu prices and the 12.5% service but to then suggest to add tip on top is following a greedy, arguably "wanky" London restaurant trend, which no-one should want to be associated to.
Good food selection. Staff a bit on the slow side. Nice river views.
Waiter was FANTASTIC.
Lovely design. Interesting menu. Share food. Delicious. Great views
Lovely ceviche taco and crab on sourdough. Really appealing location with doors open to river. Generally good service let down at end by quite unpleasant pressure to add a further tip on the already imposed 12.5%
Food lovely, location lovely looking into the Thames. Staff excellent.
Great food and ambience. The portion sizes were good and the bottomless prosecco was kept topped up throughout. Great value for money. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great location and surroundings.
Great location (summer terrance) and nice menu
We went for lunch and service was great at first but then became very slow once restaurant was busy
Great Brunch made even better with the ever so attentive and fabulous Diego - he was great
We had an overall good experience at Sea Containers - lovely atmosphere, nice music, very good food although a bit overpriced on the drinks
The waiters were a bit distracted and we had to wait longer than expected for drinks for food and for our bill.
Superb experience overall. In particular the table service was excellent! Can’t wait to go back.
Everything was brilliant. The staff were friendly and so on the ball, they preempted every move and made our visit really special.
The food was delicious and the bottomless drinks were fab, being able to switch between the different options was amazing.
Will definitely be going back again.
Very ordinary breakfast. Didn't say anywhere that it was a buffet on Sundays rather than brunch menu
The service here was terrible. We waited 1h30 mins for food and when it was served they had the order wrong and a lot of the food was tepid or just plain cold.
We were not asked for coffee, refill of drinks and had to ask for the bill several times and eventually had to take the bill up to pay.
Incredibly slow and erratic - our 4 starters presented individually at five minute intervals, over 1 1/2 hours for mains to arrive, our bottle of wine only poured after repeated requests. Waiter training needed!
There are many excellent places to eat along the south bank. This is not one of them. The location is good but the food, service and value-for-money are poor. We had a range of small dishes to share amongst the table - the portion sizes were woefully small for the cost, bearing in mind that the ingredients are extremely cheap (eg. bread, butter, olives, padron peppers). The "large plates" simply were not large at all and the quality was not high - the burgers were extremely average, mac and cheese was an unpleasant liquid slop, squid was a tiny portion. The wine list was absurdly over-priced ... really insanely expensive, not at all in keeping with other central London restaurants at this price/quality point (we eat out in central London often). Service was poor. Our server could not hide her impatience at the time it took us to order (despite the restaurant not being busy); one side dish did not come, which we mentioned to the head waiter, who did not even acknowledge this as a problem and did not fix it (the dish never came). I don't imagine this place has much repeat business - we had not been before and won't go again.
I feel like the food was nice overall, however my main dish was absolutely swimming in oil. We ordered three "table foods" to share and it took 20 minutes between the first table dish arriving and the third table dish making it's way to the table. It took an hour and a half for three people to have lunch yet other people around us were being served. Expected more from such a popular, pricey restaurant.
great food great service we would recommend the restaurant
Had dinner at Sea Containers with a friend. Food was excellent. Setting was perfect - sat by the window overlooking the Thames. Service was impeccable from beginning to end. A perfect night only go better with cocktails in Lyan-ess. Highly recommended.
Very good overall. My only comment is that it took an hour from ordering to receive our food.
Great views, nice cocktails. the service was slow, with food annoyingly arriving ahead of drinks. the starters were disappointing with uncooked shaved mushroom - such a shame because it could've been a delicious dish.
The steak was immense! Drinks were good, if a little slow (for a change!) but overall a really good place to have brunch. One of my favourite places!
Lovely riverside location with views of the City.
Fantastic food, served by very attentive and enthusiastic staff
I would highly recommend
What should have been a great night at Sea Containers ended up being awful. I’ve been there several times but what we experienced was a decline in standards. Service was poor. The food was cold. Our plates were left on the table for a long time after we had finished eating. We were never offered dessert and then to top it off we decided to pay less service charge. As a result of that a member of staff took our money and then brought back the whole service charge (apparently you pay all or nothing) and dropped it on our table and walked off.
We complained to the manager and his response was what do you want me to do about it? It was a really bad experience where you pay a lot of money for quality food, wine and good service. They let themselves down and I won’t be returning ever again
The attitude of the staff changed considerably when they discovered I had signalled on the Opentable app that I was interested in the lunchtime offer: the Express menu. They literally took the a la carte menu away without asking if we were interested in it. There was an irony here as I wasn’t in any way wedded to the other menu and I wasn’t given a chance to have a choice.
So desperate were the staff to usher us out that the bill came before my tea had arrived, the waiter then took both our cards and paid contactless without asking if we were ok with him doing that.
He didn’t give us eye contact once during service (presumably disgusted by the express menu) and so we purposefully stayed at the table as long as possible. It became faintly amusing to see how many times he would passively aggressively pace past us as we drank water (in between kissing his girlfriend during service)
All in all, pretty setting but a really counter-intuitive approach to customer service.
Had pre-theatre set menu. No choice of dishes but everything was delicious. Nicest meal out in a long time. And good value. Don't know about the a la Carte menu though.
Didn't have the best table (behind a pillar) but it really didn't matter in the end.
Service was excellent too! Not too full on but never felt ignored either. Will definitely be going back! Lovely evening!
2 hours to get a few tapas plates. Nice setting, good ambience but really bad service to the point I won’t return.
Lovely setting, great food but service was a bit slow. Our food only arrived 30 mins before we had to run for the train.
Our first visit, my wife missed it and had to be guided in by telephone by very helpful staff. A set menu with a glass of prosecco was our choice. Three sharing dishes for two courses and all were excellent - particularly the Tagliatelle. Service was friendly and timely. The wine, we had a pleasant Chardonnay, is expensive.
I was extremely disappointed on Tuesday by the service we got, especially as I had visited several times before for brunch on weekends and have always had excellent service.
The wait staff were rude (ignoring one of my friends several times when she requested things) and at one point looking at her then turning to the other table!! My napkin was damp under the cutlery and it took 10 mins for us to ask for a replacement, food service was slow, we waited 45 mins after the starters to receive our mains. One of the waiters was more concerned with flirting with the table rather than service - we were very uncomfortable and none of us wanted to leave just one person at the table in case he swooped in!! Also, I did not pay as it was a celebration and my friends did but I found out after that even though we booked the Theatre menu for £25 that we were charged more, even though we mentioned it several times to the staff from arrival!!
Please have the same level of service and wait staff that you do on weekends, I am extremely disappointed and as a former regular who always recommends you, and always leaves great reviews. Now. I have an upcoming birthday in a few weeks that I was going to book for and, I would really think twice now before coming back for that or bringing my friends again.
The food was excellent - btw, and the wonderful waitress who served the food were both the only two redeeming things.
Really really disappointed.
Exceptional steak. One of the best I’ve had. Great view
