What Insiders Are Saying
Sea Containers is the very cool-looking restaurant inside the Mondrian Hotel. It’s great for breakfast and lunch meetings, and group dinners.
Second visit for the bottomless brunch, food was great as was the service - although this time we both had empty glasses at some point where as previously our glasses were constantly topped up. I wnet for the burger which was great and my wife had the salmon bagel which again was great - had a couple of sides to accompany it and the mac'n'cheese was fantastic. Will definitely be back.
It was an amazing bottomless brunch. The quality of the food and drinks was great but especially the service. Our waiter Jose was on it refilling glasses without us asking and being extremely welcoming. We will be back!
I've booked at 22:45 and the kitchen closes at 23:00. Why they open a slot 15 min before the kitchen closes? Very rude approach from the manager/ hoste to ask me to take a order fast due to this reason. I'll never come back.
Nice experience and good food, but very unattentive service bordering on ambivalence.
It is a very pleasant experience, sitting outside and looking across the river. Service can be a little slower, but when there is no rush, a perfect place to relax, eat good food, drink cold wine and people watch.
The wine list was eye wateringly expensive! When bottles average over a £100.00 - I would expect amazing service and not a waitress who has no idea what is in the wine list!! The view is great and my burger was very good.
Very friendly service a pleasant experience.
I have been before with five friends and we all enjoyed the lunch especially as we were seated at a round table making easier conversation.
We weren’t asked if we wanted more drinks when we had finished the ones we had. It was VERY loud in there. Mixed reviews on the food - steak was alright, chicken was very good!!
Overall - Great ambience, relaxed vibe, good food. The Fish Pie was quite good, avoid the Ribs - on this occasion they were too fatty. Our fantastic waiter Emmanuel looked after us really well. Great job!
The food was not spectacular, but very good, but the wine list is ridiculous, starting with 5 pages of wines between £100-£400. Not for a cheeseburger I think. The service from our waiter was at best - disinterested. Not made to feel valued at all, and did not enhance our experience. Also told us there was no problem having a dish without the meat element, only for the manager to inform us this was not possible 30 minutes later. Our deserts were 'lost' as there was a printer problem... this was at 10.30 and a pretty much empty restaurant.. nothing was offered in compensation for this, we actually had to ask.
Spoilt a good evening but I would recommend highly the Lyaness Bar.
Prosecco was warm but the staff made an effort to bring it colder. Food was average. Restaurant is on the ground floor, the only views you get are the crow walking down the river. Overall it was a good afternoon but too expensive for what you get
Great atmosphere and good attentive, seamless and unobtrusive service for our bottomless brunch. Food was nicely presented and tasty. I would come back again and recommend to friends
Really great riverside location with nice view of St Paul’s. The interior is very sumptuous and has a lively atmosphere.
I can definitely recommend the sparkle cocktail! We were a bit unsure of how big each of the different types dishes were as we did not want to over-order and the staff were very helpful in their recommendations.
We went here for my birthday! The portions were huge and the food was very tasty, although some more vegetarian options would’ve been nice as I was unable to eat a few of the dishes of the tasting menu. Overall a lovely evening!
The food was super nice. The atmosphere great. Being able to look out and see the Thames and people walking along was a good vibe. Loved the experience.
Great food and location
Great atmosphere and service. Would go back again.
Food was good but a little underwhelming for the price. Wines were very overpriced. Some of the tables looking a little shabby so in need of a bit of an upgrade. Service was friendly and efficient though.
Lovely location shame about our waiter. Seemed less than interested. We asked for a chilled bottle of Rosé and when we said it was not cold enough he just put it in the ice bucket. Asked 3 times for ice before it came!
Food was good but overpriced.
I have a gluten allergy however it was the most limited menu I have ever had. Who puts gluten in mash potatoes????? It makes me think that the mashed potatoes was effectively smash and my wife described the burger as if it was from McDonalds.
Great cocktails and great food too. Maybe a larger vegan selection would be welcome
Overall experience was good, food was fantastic and surprisingly generous portions. I was disappointed however by the first waiter that we had who essentially ignored us for a good 15 minutes as there was clearly someone famous in the restaurant who he was far more concerned of! The 2nd waiter couldn't have been better, and was very attentive. I appreciate that when someone famous is in a restaurant waiters are told to give them the best possible service, but I think this is not on when it's to the detriment of other paying customers.
We enjoyed it. Great location
The gravy with the roast beef was excellent as was the beef itself.
Service was very attentive without being intrusive.
An excellent Sunday lunch by the river
Nice lunch overlooking the Thames. Good service and nice location on the South Bank.
Good food good service and good wiew . I highly recommend it.
Sea Containers was lovely, we had an outside booth which was lovely. The staff were attentive. My only criticism if it is was they do rush the food coming out to you! However the food was great.
Booked this restaurant for 4 people, with a particular interest in trying the set menu. Don't do it. It's not a set menu as you've experienced everywhere else. Rather it's some weird set up where diners don't get to pick what they want, but rather everything listed is brought out to be shared. I suppose this is thought of as being very cool and hip, but the four of us thought it was a ridiculous concept -- especially since each person has some things they like more than others. So we ordered a la carte. But, even worse, when we got our bill there were 3 items on it that we had not ordered. The explanation was that somehow items on someone else's tab had migrated to our bill. Inexcusable. So here's my advice...check your bill carefully.
We enjoyed the great value tasting menu as part of the opentable offer. The portions were substantial and everything was delicious - we particularly enjoyed the fresh pasta and the sashimi salmon with grapefruit. The service left a lot to be desired, the waiter seemed reluctant to come over, and when we asked for help he was horribly creepy - repeatedly touching us on the hands and arm as he spoke to us. Had we not been in a large group (all female) having fun, I really would have complained as it was inappropriate and annoying!
Good food, tad noisy and busy (slow) so better for casual group dining after drinks. Seems that most fit into that group.
Service was amazing, bottomless was prompt. Food was ok not amazing.
This was the second time I've been to Sea Containers and my girlfriend's first experience. We went for our fifth anniversary as I'd thoroughly enjoyed the experience with my parents for a Christmas Eve dinner previously. It was very busy on this occasion, although we were seated very quickly with a window table (as requested). Our waiter was very polite, professional and considerate. We waited slightly longer than was comfortable for our starters and mains, but we were regularly kept informed by the staff of the chefs' progress which kept us calm. When the food came, it was nothing short of sublime and totally made up for the waiting time. We didn't stay for dessert as we were stuffed and wanted to move on elsewhere for cocktails. Regardless of any shortcomings on this particular visit, I would emplore anyone to visit the Sea Containers. In terms of cuisine on the famous South Bank, it is second to none. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to the staff for being so welcoming and making our anniversary a special one to remember!
The reception staff were great and entertained our request for a particular table. The food was good and there is a nice vibe. Our waiter (Jose Manuel) was amazing and made the dinner even better for us and even brought us a little celebration cake.
Best restaurant waterfront, near Southwark/ Waterloo station!
Probably the worst dinner experience I've had in the last five years!
Lovely restaurant great food and atmosphere would definitely recommend
Lovely breakfast buffet. Great views overlooking the Thames. Ambiance was great.
Not the worst I’ve been to, but certainly not the best. The waiters were quite inattentive and we had to wait over 5 minutes every time we asked for something. The food was average, I ordered the calamari and asked the waiter if I needed to order a side with it. He said it would be better to, but the dish certainly didn’t need a side as it was a bean stew with calamari in it. Wouldn’t go back, as the atmosphere was also lacking and I wouldn’t call it a memorable experience.
Waiting staff need better training. We were early and asked if we could try the bar. Downstairs called upstairs for us and told us it was fine and directed us to the lifts. We went upstairs to be told without a booking we couldn't have a drink. We went back downstairs and the waiter apologised and told us to find a table outside and he would give us special service to make up for it. We never saw him again. We ordered the house champagne and said we wanted a glass rather than a bottle. There were 2 of us. 1 glass duly arrived! We confirmed our restaurant booking to the new waiter and explained we were early and could he keep our table whilst we sat in the bar area. When the time came to eat, he had forgotten about us and I had to repeat the booking so he could find us on the system and confirm we had arrived. Our new table waiter was distracted numerous times during taking our order by colleagues asking for advice/where to serve dishes. Our wine was left in a bucket away from us, but never topped up, and when the waiter saw me doing it myself, said nothing. The food is nice, but you're paying for the venue and the view. It was meant to be a birthday treat, but the experience was frustrating.
