Even though they were so busy with it being NYE we couldn’t fault anything about our evening.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed our busiest night of the year. Shalim
I have to say the visit I made that forms the basis for this review was on New Year’s Eve, so maybe not the fairest representation of what you might expect on a normal visit. Too deal with the negatives first: we booked a table for 6:45 (thank goodness I gave in to the Other Half’s ‘early eating’ fad rather than book at 8.15 as I would’ve preferred) and, although we were seated as soon as we arrived, we had to wait at least an hour - possibly longer - for our main meal to arrive. But as I say, it was New Year’s Eve and the restaurant was heaving, the situation compounded by a lengthy queue of punters ordering take away. Having said that, the wait didn’t particularly bother me although the Domestic Management was getting quite hungry! We’ve been to this restaurant before, though, and can assure readers that the delay is not the norm, and the service remained as polite and efficient as always. Indeed, the staff didn’t even seem stressed so hats off to them. The restaurant was, as I’ve already said, understandably busy. This led to a little more noise than usual but, actually, it wasn’t unbearable and, if anything, increased the atmosphere on an evening celebrated by one and all. It was warm, civilised and still felt upmarket. So, if you’re looking for a quiet romantic dinner for two, you needn’t worry on most other nights of the year. Now the really important bit: the food. As per my previous experience here, it was excellent which, baring in mind how busy it was, is frankly remarkable. Nothing burnt, nothing dry, nothing cold, and no mistakes regarding what we ordered. The cuisine is a wonderful balance of authentic styles from the sub-continent with a nod to ‘traditional’ Anglo-Indian fare I fondly remember from the seventies. I love a bit of a burn and the Vindaloo doesn’t disappoint; none of your wish-washy hot in name only. The Bombay Aloo also carries heat yet presents as authentic (curries aren’t particularly hot in India). Excellent and tasty. Good portions.
Thank you, Mark, for being so understanding on New Year's Eve. To give you the heads up, it was our busiest night of the year for 2021 and we were swamped in the restaurant but more so on the takeaway side. Luckily I have a very efficient and unflappable team who took the night in their stride. Fingers crossed, next time you visit we won't be as busy. See you again soon. Shalim
Very enjoyable evening for New Years Eve! Delicious Food. Thank you.
It was a great night on NYE, glad you had a good time with us. Shalim
Amazing food, service was quick and fantastic. Couldn’t do enough for you. Will definitely be returning.
We look forward to it, Alice. Glad to hear you enjoyed your meal with us. Shalim
We enjoy going to Shalims as it is well spaced out, very friendly and effecient service - you do not have to wait long and the food is of a good standard. My only gripe is that the overall cost is on the expensive side. Otherwise very pleased and will go again, just need to save up more.
Thanks for taking the time to review us, DeeJay. Sorry that you feel that we are expensive, but we are comparably priced to other similar local venues. Shalim
We had to wait about an hour for our meal and when it arrived it was lukewarm.
I am sorry to hear that here, Reg. Please, if everything is not 100% to your satisfaction, let us know then, and we can do something about it at the time. Hopefully, this has not put you off returning. Shalim
Excellent food and service
Thank you, Alan. Shalim
Fantastic food ,fabulous service Always our favourite place to eat when visiting Weymouth
That's great to hear. Thank you, ShellE. Shalim
Great food and service and a nice atmosphere. Will visit again.
We look forward to it, Dave. Thank you for taking the time to review us. Shalim
Always a very pleasant dining experience, and this occasion was no exception!
Food was lovely, came quick and was pipeing hot. Staff were friendly and approachable. Great value for money. Will be back.
Tasty food, efficient service and value for money…never disappoints.
As always a great place to dine with nothing but great service and food.
Amazing food and service.
Great tasty food,good service,modern resturant.great prices
Came here as just a short distance from guest house we were staying at. Excellent choice. Welcoming staff, very clean and the food was exceptional. We had one starter and Popadoms and pickle tray. 2 mains with special rice chips and nan bread. 2 pints later and 1 pint cider. £58. So good value for money. Nothing bad to say. Would definately recommend. If ever in area again wouldn't hesitate to eat here again.
The food was fantastic and the service was excellent even though it was a very busy night
Our favourite Indian Restaraunt in Weymouth. Excellent food, polite friendly and efficient service. Thouroughly enjoyed our 3rd visit
Very tasty food and good atmosphere. Staff was polite and definitely will be back again. Thank you
Great meal. Probably the best Indian restaurant in Weymouth.
The two specials that we had were extremely sweet, despite me asking for mine without sugar. It is quite expensive, £1.90 for a single chapatti, and the portions are on the small side. Ambiance was good, staff reasonable and place was clean.
We haven't eaten here for about 20 years. Heard some good reports so thought we would have a change from our usual indian restaurant. Service was very good but we were disappointed with the food sadly. My husband ordered a hot dish..he was warned about the strength of the chilli when he ordered but he loves spicy food. My dish was supposed to be medium but we found the food very bland & couldn't taste much spice at all. Tarka dall was v watery & lacking in strong garlic taste it is known for. Such a shame as we were so looking forward to a lovely spicy curry. The restaurant itself is done out v well & had nice ambience. Got busier as the night went on & became so noisy we had to raise our voices across the table! Our next indian meal out will be at our usual indian restaurant, sadly not shalims.
Consistently good and superbly cooked Indian food. Staff are courteous and attentive. Extensive menu choice. We will return !
Food was good !!!
shame that it was rushed by staff though. Didn’t even finished my starter and our mains was already being served to us!
instead of coming back with our mains the waiter just stood there why we finished them. So we felt like it was rushed
Lovely food. Service was brilliant. The setting overall was perfect
Food was cold and the two dishes (masala and peshwari) both taste the same
Food was just great. A very good experience all round. I was a bit disgruntled with the small print on the menu saying "min £17.50 per head table service" though!
Food & service was fast & very tasty would definitely recommend it ! Will definitely be going back :))
We booked and attended, well managed good covid spacing, food OK, ambience nice.
The food was just ok for us we’ve had more tastier curries, but they where still ok for the price. The service was ok but unless we asked management for it xtra drinks etc the other staff never brought anything over. We waited ages for our food as well. We understand that it was very busy tho so we don’t hold any of this against the restaurant we still enjoyed the visit
First time of visiting couldn’t fault the food good value for money
Went on a Saturday night was busy but service very good
If visiting Weymouth again would certainly return
Eaten in many Indian restaurants all over the UK and shalims is one of the best by far .
Excellent, never had a bad meal here. Always choose it for special occasions
Great tasting food, good service and reasonable prices
Was a suggestion made by a local barmaid and we are very pleased she suggested Shalims!
To start with the decor is amazing and the staff were extremely welcoming. We ordered chef specials which were super tasty and good value and we really enjoyed our meal here. If we ever end up nearby again we will definitely eat here!
As always amazing service and quality of food. Definitely the beet curry house in Weymouth. Wish I could afford to eat there every week!!
